4 out of 5 eggsfollow up to previous

Pros: Again, lots of features, lots of SATA ports

Cons: Like a guy below said, the SATA port orientation on the board leaves a little to be desired. They're stacked on top of each other in pairs. If you use locking connectors, and why wouldn't you, then the connector on the bottom will become unlocked when you install the connector on top.

Other Thoughts: I know it sounds bad, but I have been fairly satisfied with this motherboard.

4 out of 5 eggsReally very good but one problem

Pros: Lots and Lots of features, reasonable price, ASUS brand

Cons: I tried to set up a 4 disk RAID 5 array, install Win7x64, and boot to this array. It worked for a day or two, but then the raid went critical and dropped a drive. I ran SeaTools on the drive and it showed bad. I swapped another drive in, and immediately upon trying to rebuild the array, it went critical again. Ran SeaTools and again the drive was bad. But it wasn't. It turns out that in RAID mode, the third SATA port craps out. It works fine in AHCI or IDE mode, but if you try to run a RAID that third port will fail every time. The drives test fine in other ports. I swapped out SATA cables, power cables, tried 4 different drives. It's the motherboard's 3rd SATA port. I tried again with a 4 disk RAID 10 and same thing - third port fails.

Other Thoughts: I ordered a cheap SYBA fakeRAID card and will try the 4 disk RAID 10 on it. I'd like to RMA and get a new/good board, but that'll put me down for a week or more.

1 out of 5 eggsCrash & Burn

Pros: I really like the number of SATA and USB ports on the mobo. My brother is not a gamer so a simple board should have done the job. I also like that this mobo has HDMI, Display Port, Optical audio output and PS/2 ports.

Cons: Maybe not "& Burn", but it defiantly crashes a lot. I purchased this mobo and other items from NewEgg as a BYO Christmas computer for my brother and his family in 2013. He did not tell me that it constantly crashes until recently. So I have had it for a few weeks trying to find out why it is crashing.

I think that I have it narrowed down to the memory channels. If I place the two memory cards in the A2/B2 configuration like the manual shows or the A1/B1 configuration, the system crashes constantly. It is more stable if I place the memory in A1/A2 configuration, the system is much more stable. But, the memory is not running in a dual channel mode. I have tried multiple memory cards in the mobo and get the same results.

Other Thoughts: I have purchased at least seven ASUS motherboards since the Athlon XP was released. This is the first one that has really disappointed me. I may just go buy another brand to replace this one.

3 out of 5 eggsBeware the SATA Ports

Pros: Feature-laden
DisplayPort
Sooooo many A/V ports

Cons: SATA port orientation
Did not come with Asus quick connector for case power button-to-motherboard wiring
Only 7000-series AMD graphics

Other Thoughts: 6 of the 7 SATA ports are oriented perpendicularly to the mobo which conflicted with one of the non-removable HDD cages built into my case.

Take note of the SATA ports on this mobo, what they will be adjacent to on your case- if you already have your case- and if there will be any conflict.

Also consider buying the Asus quick connector facilitate wiring the mobo to your case power button.

1 out of 5 eggsF2A85-M PRO FM2 hangs

Pros: HDMI and SPDIF out

Cons: USB ports die at Windows splash screen when trying to load Win7

Other Thoughts: Purchased this open box, mounted an AMD A6-6400K APU, 8gb (4x 2GB) Crucial DDR3 1333 MT/s CL9 Unbuffered UDIMM sticks in a Fractal Node 605 case and Fractal Bronze 500w power supply. Slimline BD will run the Win7 install DVD but as soon as the swirling dots appear at the splash screen, all the USB ports die.

I finally got Win7 to load by using the mouse via the single PS/2 connector, but I'm stuck again since I need both mouse and keyboard to finish initial config.

I've seen issues with Win7 hanging at install and hoped these symptoms would be resolved by downloading new drivers -- but I can't get that far.

Also, the driver DVDs that came with the motherboard don't seem to work -- they look to be executing some DOS commands but then end up at the A:/ prompt.

Has anybody else had these problems with this board or can offer any suggestions?

5 out of 5 eggsGood board

Pros: I was nervous about reading all the DOA reviews, but unfortunately there is no component that is immune to being DOA, so I pulled the trigger. I have been a loyal Asus customer for 10+ years so I decided to stick with them, and this board is what I was looking for.

It's been 4-5 years since my last build, this was my first time using a mouse in BIOS. Also using Windows 8 for the first time.

Am now running Windows 8.1 using EUFI w/ a Samsung SSD and from powered of to the desktop ready to go is about 5 seconds; it's insane.

Working perfectly thus far, only had it for a couple of days, but so far so good. Happy with my purchase.

Cons: None as of yet.

3 out of 5 eggsFlip a Coin it seems

Pros: - Low budget board with lots features.
- runs stable if you get a good one
- 4 memory slots

Cons: first one the bios was messed up. would not hold date and time or any bios settings. had updated to latest bios. so had to rma it and get a new one in the mean time losing valuable time and money to a down computer. seems ASUS had dropped off their quality control. may be time to go with a different manufacturer.

Other Thoughts: I have been using asus for 15 years or so. seems they have been getting worse and worse. up until last few years i had only RMA'd one board in the last 2 years 6. that is not a good sign.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsGood board, slow graphics

Pros: Quality motherboard from Asus of course like I expected. I am running amd A10 5800k with 2 HyperX 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM(1600 mhz). I have no problems with the board. No crashes what so ever.

Cons: I am NOT a gamer, so for the graphics to act up doing what I usually do on the computer is pretty bad. The graphics on this board are really bad. My old HP pc with onboard graphics was more stable than this one. I get frozen screens, half screen windows where I can only see and use anything on one side of the window.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to get your own graphics card then this board is a good board to get. One reason I got it was to skip getting graphics card. I thought that running the AMD A10 5800k would give me graphics compatible to some middle end gpu cards out there. Guess NOT.

1 out of 5 eggs2x DOA

Pros: Ease of install, good manual

Cons: second one I've had in two weeks and both are DOA- first would send power to fans, lights, power buttons, etc. now this 2nd one (after ensuring PS works) does nothing. New CPU, etc. memory, using standoff screws....will be returning and not replacing.

Other Thoughts: I've been building and maintaining PCs for 20+ years and I know certain batches of boards or PCs assembled by same team or person can all be faulty. QC is what it is at some companies, but I had several DELL GX260 back about 10 years ago that all failed due to faulty power supplies, no exceptions. This feels like a similar experience.

3 out of 5 eggsDual GPU be aware

Pros: The main reason I'm writing this review is for a con.
Really good mobo. Relatively easy to install all the parts. Overclocking made easy. My brother, who works as an IT specialist, helped me set up all the settings and he was thoroughly impressed.

Cons: The main gripe with this mobo is the placement of the expansion slots. The PCI expansion slots are in placement 1 and 4. Most GPUs now are the size of 2 slots. When applying a 2nd GPU to the 2nd PCI (4th slot), it over hangs on the mobo, making it extremely difficult to reach some of the connectors. Furthermore, and most importantly, if you do intend on using this mobo and dual graphics, you'll need to buy a case that has at least 5 expansion slots. The first card will use up slots 1-2 and the 2nd card will use up 4-5. I really, really, really wish they would switch the 2nd PCI 2.0 slot to the 3rd slot. If they did this, you could really use any mATX case you'd want to.

Other Thoughts: When I bought my components, I had intended on keeping my gaming consoles and solely using this w/o a dedicated GPU. When I realized that I couldn't fully game at the quality I wanted, I bought a dedicated video card and crossfired it using my APU+GPU. During the installation, I realized that if I wanted to expand to 2 GPUs, I'd have to buy a new case and eventually did. Had I thought any better, I would've gone with the A55BM, or any of the MSI or Gigabyte equivalents.
