2 out of 5 eggsCost effective, onboard Realtek chips are actually not junk anymore

Pros: Supports all Ivy Bridge CPUs out of the box and a wide range of RAM. Asus Tech. support is pretty good in my experience compared to most other motherboard manufacturers (see Cons). Features six SATA ports (only one 6Gbs), two rear USB 3.0 ports and a USB 3.0 header for front ports as well as a nice 3.0 to 2.0 adapter if you only have USB 2.0 in front. SATA port placement will be a hassle with longer PCI-E cards. Onboard Realtek 8111F NIC and ALC887 HD Audio chips are a step up from my experiences with Realtek products on the past. UEFI BIOS is easy to navigate (although there is no boot menu key at startup, you must enter the UEFI screen and select a boot device if you want to switch) and has all the control features you could need for this level of board.

Cons: Purchased board as an 'Open Box' from Newegg. I know it would be missing some accessories, which is not a big deal. It was missing the backplate, which I could overlook. Unfortunately, DIMM slot A1 does not work on this board. I was expecting used/open box item, but a functional one. Luckily for me this board is still very much under warranty from Asus. They responded quickly to my online RAM request. Replacement coming so I am happy. Not happy that a Newegg shipped a non-functional item (supposedly 'Open Box' items are tested for functionality). At the end of the day though, this is the first DOA/broken item I received from Newegg out of something like 50+ items (including builds for friends). Will keep buying Newegg, will not buy another 'Open Box' or refurb. though.

Other Thoughts: Asus tech. support and RMA service are great. Say the magic words and they replace broken products. I was lucky perhaps.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: None DOA

Cons: Obviously DOA Tried to RMA but they said that because the cpu pins were bent they could not replace or refund. CPU pins were bent when i got it. Also Tried the memory test by taking the RAM out and waiting for a beep.....no beep.

Other Thoughts: Building a computer for the office at my church. Have always had luck with higher model ASUS motherboards, but their lower level models are not as good. Going to look for another motherboard from a different brand

5 out of 5 eggsIt really does have some of everything

Pros: Worked right out of the box, haven't needed to update the BIOS. Came with 2 SATA cables: one 6GB/s with straight ends and the clips and one 3GB/s with one straight and one angled end with clips. Uses the same socket as the Pentium and Celeron 3rd gen as well as the i-series CPUs, so you can start with one of the cheap CPU and upgrade later if needed.

The USB 3.0 header is nice for a front panel connection. Full speed PCIe 3.0 slot. The available SATA 6Gb/s port is great for an SSD boot drive.

The UEFI BIOS is nice, I had gotten used to it on my Z77 board so it was nice to also get it on this one.

Cons: No block for the front panel connections. Meh.

90 degree angled SATA connections would have been better for cable management, but not a big deal.

1 more system fan plug would have been nice.

Not sure if it was my case or the I/O panel itself, but the panel was hard to get to snap into place correctly.

Other Thoughts: Used this in a build for a pretty basic PC for my mom, and it's probably overkill but whatever. 10 seconds to boot up.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent for Budget Gaming Rigs

Pros: For a Micro-ATX, this little guy ain't half bad. I'm running an i7-3770 Ivy Bridge with it, and it runs smoothly. If you're looking for a budget but a very much capable mobo for average gaming needs, shoot for this one.

Cons: None at this time.

5 out of 5 eggsTo Lin:

Pros: Great Basic board, and reliable.

Cons: ppl who give bad reviews almost never revise it when they find out 'they' were the weak link.

Other Thoughts: Lin says he got 3 DOAs in a row??? Dude you are either the unluckiest guy in the world or you are doing something wrong! Stop building PCs!
Don't blame ASUS for your bad RAM or lack of knowledge.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little board

Pros: Budget friendly board. Bought and installed 8 with no duds. Had to update BIOS on all. The included cables seem to vary by date of board manufacture. All included 1 SATA 3Gbps and 1 SATA 6Gbps cable, but some were straight cables and others had one end with a 90 degree bend on them.

LOVE the ASUS UEFI BIOS. I wish it had an XMP feature for memory changes, but letting me select a quick clock speed for the RAM is fine too.

Cons: The faceplate for the case was very flimsy and some had to have tabs bent manually to clear the components of the board. Not a big deal, just be careful on installation. A little pressure is required to secure in place against the plate, but I mean LITTLE. If you are not seeing screw holes at least half-lined up with no pressure, you're caught on something. Frequently the issue was the bumpers on the DVI port or ethernet port... just make sure they aren't catching the front of the ports and preventing you from sliding the board forward all the way. The DVI port's ones in particular could LOOK like they were clearly on top of the port, but then had to be lifted further to clear the second bump on the port.

Other Thoughts: Impressed with this little guy. Due to the form factor or maybe just ASUS's design, the CPU doesn't sit in a spot that works with the plastic air divider (Partition Plate Cooling Technology) in the InWin BL631.300TBL case. I just chucked the divider in the trash and moved on. I have used that divider with other boards without issue, but there was no way to make it work on this mobo.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard!

Pros: I've sold 20+ of these over the last 6 months and every single one is working perfect. Great price, super stable, and just enough features for the basic business computer. Driver disk included is actually useful, just select the "drivers only" option and you're done with drivers.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Yup

5 out of 5 eggsGood board

Pros: Worked right out of the box, no issues, nice layout, decent drivers support and bunch of additional utilities, feels fast in general. Small size of the board is a plus.

Cons: Nothing really negative noticed so far. For my built, E-sata port would be nice to have in addition to all the outputs, but not really an issue. USB and PS2 connectors are just a bit too tight to my liking.

Other Thoughts: Really like it...

2 out of 5 eggsCould have been good

Pros: Small form factor, easy to navigate, love UEFI Bios

Cons: When I first installed the board the computer wouldn't turn on. After troubleshooting that (operator error) I was getting no video. Began the usual troubleshooting and found it came down to the RAM. DIMM_B1 worked perfectly fine but when anything is put into DIMM_A1 there is no video, no POST, nothing. I thought it was the RAM itself, ran out and picked up compatible RAM as per the manual, and still, DIMM_A1 produced no video while RAM in just DIMM_B1 worked fine. I checked for shorts, reset the CMOS more times than I can count, ran the board outside the case to ensure there was no interference. Every possibly combination of solutions I tried. Nothing.

Other Thoughts: This board would have been great had DIMM_A1 not been funky. I'll RMA it and pick up something else most likely. Spending 4 hours on a build is not my idea of a good time.

All this aside, NewEgg shipping is still amazing. Picked Standard 4-6 business day and got it within 2 days of ordering.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that the DIMM slot didn't work. I hope the RMA board that you receive all DIMM slots will work perfectly.

If you have any questions or comments you can email me again at cl-jeffrey@asus.com which I reside in the U.S

ASUS strives to meet and exceeds our customer expectations within our warranty policy.

Regards,

Jeffrey
