2 out of 5 eggsOld BIOS!!!

Pros: Great deal for the price

Cons: The BIOS is old, will not support intel ivy bridge technology. Unless you have an older LGA 1155 socket CPU that you can use to boot and flash the BIOS, you will have to RMA to ASUS for the newest BIOS.

Other Thoughts: ASUS customer support was very helpful considering the reason for my RMA.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for providing feedback on this motherboard. Z68-based motherboards may not have the latest BIOS required to support Ivy Bridge CPU's. However, in addition to using an older supported CPU (such as those supported since BIOS version 0403: http://www.asus.com/Motherboard/P8Z68V_LX/#support_CPU) to update the BIOS and RMA the motherboard to us, you can also purchase a BIOS chip with the latest version from our eStore (http://estore.asus.com). If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us below. Thank you.

1 out of 5 eggsTwo out of three bad - no post.

Pros: Asus history

Cons: Purchased three refurb'd boards. Created three systems, each with identical components. Two of the three would not post. Swapped components between the functional booting system with those that would not. The working motherboard remained true. To me a refurbished board would indicated that ASUS has gone over it with a fine tooth comb - so to speak, apparently not, these boards still have fleas, (bugs). Unfortunately I was slow in getting around to building these systems, my bad. My time to return to Newegg for replacement lapsed. ASUS support had difficulty confirming my S/N's. Looked like some shannanigans in the refurb world. You should also be aware of the following note from ASUS..."Replacement units may be refurbished and/or remanufactured units and any replacement will inherit the warranty (*inserted - and problems) of your original product. A replacement does not extend or alter your original manufacturer warranty." So you may end up with faulty equipment even after your RMA. Further they state to allow 10 business days not counting weekends or hoildays for them to process your RMA. No previous customer priority here. My confidentce in ASUS is dropping.

Other Thoughts: No more refurbs for me. I don't care what the price is. Time is money. I might get these systems up in another month. Meanwhile the business suffers!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry to hear about your experience with this motherboard. Despite that the motherboards are refurbished, they should still be functional. If they do not POST, please check:

1. If the BIOS version on the board supports your CPU.The BIOS version can be found as the last four digits of a bar code label on the side of the motherboard. Then, reference the CPU support list here:
http://www.asus.com/Motherboard/P8Z68V_LX/#support_CPU

2. Check that the Clear_CMOS jumper is inserted in positions 1 and 2. If the jumper is missing or in another position, the motherboard may not power on or POST.

Plug a speaker to the system panel and monitor for beep:
1 long beep and 2 short beeps = memory
1 long beep and 3 short beeps = VGA

Refurbished motherboards are covered under warranty for only 90 days.

To continue support or if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at cl-benson@asus.com (reference #C1037-8350 in the subject line). Thank you.

3 out of 5 eggs"Accessories" may not be included

Pros: Looks like it should be a good board at a great price.

Cons: It did not include the I/O shield. Newegg customer support responded to my query that since it is a refurbished item, accessory items may or may not be included.

2 out of 5 eggsBent Pins

Pros: Unknown

Cons: DOA, had a few bent pins. I didn't specifically check the socket pins before I installed the CPU, so could have happened when I removed the protective cove, or installed the CPU, but I was pretty careful. Not sure it was the pins, but bought a new MB and everything else worked. So it was the MB. It was a refurb. I gave it a 2 just in case it was me.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard

Pros: Great board, I would go with the newer version of this board as this model doesn't have USB 3.0 front panel connectors. but If your case doesnt have that then this is a great budget motherboard.

Cons: No USB 3.0 front panel connectors.
