1 out of 5 eggsStrike 3 and you're out...

Pros: Design, layout and functionality by design are all excellent on a working board.

Cons: Unfortunately this would be the 3rd RMA for mine. The problem is when I have both of my Asus GTX 670 CUII's plugged in SLI, BIOS only detects 1 card. Also I have 12 GB of Crucial Tactical Tracer 1600, post screen only shows 8 GB although all sticks show up in BIOS.

When I received the first RMA back, everything worked as it should untill I set the memory to the XMP profile in BIOS, rebooted and the same problems reappeared. Clearing CMOS, resetting to defaults and even trying every version of BIOS, nothing would reset the memory or show both video cards in BIOS.

The second RMA acted like they didn't even do anything but install BIOS version 1803. I was going to set the values manually for my ram instead of using the XMP profile thinking that is what caused the problem but when I installed everything, the first boot showed only 8 GB of ram on the POST screen and when I got into BIOS sure enough only 1 video card showed up.

This motherboard is useless to me. I do all of my financial as well as gaming on my system and need it to be stable and working as promised. I have an Asrock Fatility Z68 that I am currently using. All the same components that were installed in the Maximus work perfectly in the Asrock.

Other Thoughts: The first 3 months the Maximus V was working perfectly. I don't know what caused it to malfunction and it seems that Asus does not either. I am not new to their products and must confess that this is the first RMA I have had with them on several thousands of dollars worth of purchases.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings Hypernaut,

I would like to help if I can. Please send me your full system specifications along with any other troubleshooting steps you have tried thus far, and I will be able to look into this further.

Regards,

Mark

5 out of 5 eggsLots of features and settings

Pros: Runs my 3770k with at all cores at 4.6 GHz with 1.16v. Recognized and correctly configured for my G.Skill DDR3 1600 memory. Red LED logo and backside of board lighting looks good in case with window. Came with a front panel switch header to make connecting and disconnecting front panel wires a one step affair. The SW is easy to use to experiment with different overclocks. I water cool the CPU and graphics card and it was nice to have the watercooling integrated into the VR heatsink which I used. The inside of the case is very cool because of that.

Cons: The default overclock voltages controlled by the bios are higher than needed resulting in additional heat. The BIOS delta voltage setting is what I use as it still drops the voltage when the processor isn't busy, but is trial and error to get to the desired max voltage. The SW it comes with includes fan control software, which in the end I didn't want to use, and then was very difficult to uninstall completely. The board was about 3/4 longer then spec and the SATA ports are oriented such that they come in from the edge. This caused an interference with my case requiring modification of my hard drive cage.

Other Thoughts: The 3770K implements "onboard" graphics. I didn't expect to ever use it, however when I cooked my graphics card due to a defective waterblock, it was sufficient to support email, and web browsing. Once I put a graphics card back in , the BIOS setting didn't totally disable the intel graphics. Subsequently windows was repeatedly alerting me of Intel graphics driver update. When I eventually allowed the update, I couldn't get output from the graphics card. Beyond disabling it in the hardware devices I had to remove all traces of intel graphics driver software.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed within 90 days

Pros: Was great when it worked

Cons: Failed within 90 days
Had a power outage, (yes I have a surge suppressor)now the motherboard will not start, stuck on the F2 or DEL key to enter bios page. Re flashed the bios, still nothing.

3 out of 5 eggsAsus What Happened ?

Pros: Perfect layout and colors . Leds are a nice touch. Every thing was what I was looking for in a new board , BUT !

Cons: First bought this board as an open box item that had 2 dead ram slots next to the CPU . Liked the board so much I got a refund from Newegg and bought a retail board . You would not expect to have the same problem with 2 different boards from Asus . The retail board has the same two ram slots that are dead . This time I waited to long to send back to Newegg . When I contacted Asus about a replacement , I was suppose to get an email with my instructions to send the board back , never got the email .Talked to two different people in two weeks . I'll end up keeping the board and using it in a spare pc because everything else on the board works fine . 300 dollars for a board , a top of the line board mind you , and bad customer service , NOT GOOD ! Had a P67 WS board that worked perfect and , I sold it for this .

Other Thoughts: Sorry Asus , bought an Asrock OC Formula board that works perfect . I can't even tell a difference between them . That's right , the Asrock board is $80 cheaper and everything works !

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great motherboard

Cons: The motherboard was dead on arrival, I shipped it back to Newegg, and they said it was user-end damaged but I couldn't have done anything to it since it came broken. Asus will not accept the motherboard saying the same thing. So I basically lost $300.

Other Thoughts: A good product but purchase at your own risk.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Amazing MB not only does it have an awesome appearance with the LED's it also comes with many software benefits. Such as being able to update bios just by downloading it from the Asus website, saving it on a flash drive and installing it from the bios menu. Over all this is an amazing board you really get your moneys worth.

Cons: Very few cons. Only thing I didn't like is how the water cooling system it has gets in the way of the CPU Cooler. Another thing is that if you don't upgrade the bios to the newest software right away it will Blue Screen you often but once that is done and taken care of it works flawlessly.

4 out of 5 eggsgive and take

Pros: OC even on a busted board is great! Stock 3.4 2600k to 4.6 with boss toggle. Ran clocks to 2133, never possible on my older p8z77 deluxe with sane 2100? Freq corsair.

Cons: 2 dimm sis a1 b1 were bad, but still got a boot, oc on ram and cpu.
This board is misleading it would seem for raid purposes. You cannot stop raid from 4x asmedia sata6, only 2x Intel sata 3. Clearly stated on description supports raid 10. ALL raid 10 setups I've seen require 4 drives and raid 5 3 drives. I refuse to stripe only disks. Now ive got 4 2tb drive which are worthless now. Maybe I'll dump another 350 for a hardware raid controller despite longer boot times.
Water coolers beware, the power supplies on top really cut into your real estate for the rad and fan. Had to offset mutt rad to edge of case (drilling required)

Other Thoughts: Again, 2 busted dimms and still ran great. The Intel sata 2x (6g)supporting the raid function are the outermost red ones. Not quite eatx dimensions. Over all length was marginally wider than my previous atx. What I've read is this does not require water cooling, but I did anyhow. To the cooler master hyper 212 owners, consider chopping a few of the fins off.

5 out of 5 eggsTons of features and looks excellent

Pros: + excellent performance
+ UEFI is easy to use
+ includes tons of features for overclockers and gamers alike, and also plenty of accessories
+ quite frankly looks awesome as well
+ Hyper 212 will not overlap the first RAM slot; definitely not a problem with low profile RAM

Cons: + expensive; would be more easily justified at around $275 and under

Other Thoughts: ASUS Maximus V Formula
Intel Core i5-3570K
ASUS GTX 670 DirectCu II
Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz Low Profile 2 x 4GB
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB

5 out of 5 eggsvery happy

Pros: I figured it was time to upgraded from my i7-930 Gigabyte GA-X58a-UD3R. I was going to get the Sabertooth Z77 since it seems to be the board that's making most people happy. This a very nice board. The UEFI BIOS is intuitive and easily configurable for overclocking. I was able to overclock my 3770K to 4.6 in a heartbeat and set my DDR3 to 1866 in my sleep. I was pleasantly surprised that the onboard sound is actually pretty good. I wasn't actually expecting to hear a difference between my UD3R, figuring that onboard sound is onboard sound, but unless my ears deceive me it's vastly superior in clarity. BIOS update was a breeze using the USB update option. Zero issues with all my peripherals. Esthetically attractive. Assassins Creed III was a nice bonus. Fit nicely into my White Corsair 600T despite being an EATX board.

Cons: none that I've found yet.
