5 out of 5 eggsGreat board, especially for the price

Pros: This has been a great board for my HTPC. My last Asus mATX board is 5 years old and still going strong, and it has a virtually identical layout to this one. I've never had any problems with either. The BIOS is easy to flash and update. I've been running an FX 6300 and Win 8.1 on it for 6 months, and it's worked perfectly.

Cons: The only thing I wish this board had was a USB 3.0 header. My case has front USB 3.0 ports, but I had to buy a PCI-E card to hook them up. Being limited to SATA II and PCI-E 2.0 will be a downer for some people, but it hasn't bothered me.

4 out of 5 eggsBudget home server board

Pros: Great budget home server board because it has 4 ram slots that can be used with ecc ram, has built in on board graphics (no need for dedicated card on server that will usually be used headless), header for parallel port (can use with legacy printers to act as print server), pci and pci-express slots (reuse existing raid cards regardless of interface type).

Cons: Not a lot of pci/pci-e slots because of matx form factor. Weak power system. Not many power phases, no heat sinks on the vrms, only 4 pin 12 V aux CPU power connector. Sustained high current to 125W+ or overclocked cpus is going to cause overheating problems associated with the vrms as detailed in the many other reviews listed for this board. These problems will be exacerbated if you use an after market cooler (e.g. hyper 212) that doesn't direct airflow down toward cpu and motherboard. Perpendicular airflow, as provided by the stock cooler, would assist with cooling vrms but parallel airflow will not assist with cooling them.

Other Thoughts: I would not suggest getting this board if you want it for overclocking a 125W CPU or for sustained high loads on 125W cpu (e.g. gaming). You are asking for problems given the weak power setup. See the other reviews that talk about overheating or exploding motherboard components as a preview of what can happen.

4 out of 5 eggsGood MOBO for a while

Pros: It worked really great, didn't have any problems with the hardware I bought when I built my machine, the USB 3.0 worked, had everything I needed.

Cons: Unfortunately, I just had the same problem a few others had, I was in the middle of playing a game, then the computer went down, told me something about a power surge which made no sense since there hadn't been one. Then I turned it off, blew the dust out of it cause I thought I smelled something strange, then I turned it back on, no display. Let it cool off for a while, turned it on again, everything whirrs but no display. I removed the gpu just in case it was the gpu going bad, no display. So far as I know it could be a PDU or mobo issue, and the PDU seems to be powering everything just fine, so I figure the mobo has a problem. RMAing it on ASUS since they have that three year limited warranty and hoping they will be willing to replace it or fix it or whatever cause I don't have the cash to buy another right now...

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board; Until it Explodes

Pros: It was a great board while I had it, it was cheap and worked. That's pretty much all there is to say. Paired with a lower end FX chip, the price is hard to beat. The onboard programs are pretty useless (OC Genie, etc.), but at least they're there. The EZ Flash utility is brilliant though. It's a fantastic little thing, and it made updating the BIOS easy as pie. It looks nice as well, which is always a plus.

Cons: -SATA2

-Sata Ports very hard to get to with a 2-slot graphics card

-I/O Panel very very hard to get in correctly, also it's sharper than a knife. You will be making a blood sacrifice if you really want this thing to fit.

-Literally blew up on me. I'm not one to write a bad review because I got a dud board, but it literally exploded. Sparks, fire, the whole nine yards. I'm still waiting to hear back from ASUS on this matter to test if it killed any of my other components, but a failure this spectacular and gratuitous should be mentioned.

Other Thoughts: All in all, great board for the price. Just don't leave it near your curtains or it might burn your house down when it explodes.

1 out of 5 eggsdisappointed nothing got it to post

Pros: I've liked Asus boards in the past. This one was a massive disappointment.

Cons: Transplanted my older Gigabyte board out of my HTPC. Simple enough. Have an old HD5770, 8gb of A-Data RAM, 700w modular Corsair PSU. Was upgrading the CPU to an AMD FX8350. Put it all together, everything nice and tight and clean. The power LED came on, all fans spun up, HDD started spinning(SSD started too I'm assuming). No POST. I tried the Graphics Card HDMI, I tried the DVI and VGA from the motherboard. Confirmed the cables I was using were all good. Confirmed the monitors I used to test were good.(even dragged my HTPC to work 20 minutes away to test it there).
Took out the Graphics card, took out all but 1 stick of 2GB RAM. pulled the CMOS and the Chassis jumper, booted up again, nothing from VGA or DVI.
Tried my old Phenom II x4 965 CPU thinking the board was an old bios version that didn't read FX8xxx but it didn't boot on that old Phenom CPU either!
The board simply WILL-NOT-POST blank screen 100%. HDMI says no signal, and DVI VGA realize there's something plugged in but nothing on screen. Not a flicker. It's past the 30 day RMA(stupid let the box sit on my table for a month before getting around to the "upgrade").
Very disappointed I wasted so much time on what should've been a simple swap. I'm going to Micro Center tomorrow to see if they'll test it for me and if it IS a bios issue of some sort, see if they can bring it up to date and sort it out.
Really not worth all this trouble.

Other Thoughts: Save your money and shop for something else. Wholeheartedly disappointed. I've spent the last 5 hours troubleshooting and swapping and driving to and from work to get this thing to show some sign of life. The board just isn't playing ball. Didn't NEED to upgrade but it's fun amiright! Well I was wrong on this occasion.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: Can use VGA D-sub, DVI or HDMI on-board graphics. 6 audio out ports. Has USB 3.0 rear ports.

There was not a less expensive option that included 4 RAM memory slots which allows up to 32GB total, which was my main consideration.

Cons: No PCI-Express 3.0 support. No SATA III (6.0Gb/s) connectors. I'm not using an SSD, so this doesn't factor in greatly.

Other Thoughts: I'm using with an FX-6300 chip, a single 8Gb HyperX Blu. Using a Western Digital Green 2TB internal and a refurbished 500Gb Seagate internal. Tested with GeForce GTX 275, Radeon HD 7790 and GeForce 8800 GTX add-in video cards with no problems. Used Corsair CX750M and GS600 PSU's with the above cards. I did not update the BIOS, never needed to do so. Read that to use HDMI, person must first boot using VGA/DVI video outputs. May need more than 2GB or 4GB RAM to support more than one monitor, not sure. Depending upon the case, may need to use low-profile memory. Have used various Linux distros and Windows 7 Pro without issues. With the GTX 275 card, ran almost 300 fps for CounterStrike: Source's video stress test. I'm very satisifed with this board. Would buy again for use with a 95W multi-core CPU.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 1 year

Pros: HDMI and SATA support. Needed a micro Motherboard to fit a microATX tower and a simple Athlon II x3 processor.

Cons: When motherboard arrived, I thought I had issues with an old Power Supply and a mishap with power SW buttons from the tower. After some fiddling with the power SW cables and with a new Power Supply, the Board worked. Then after one year, no power through the motherboard's power adapter. Fiddling with the adapter blinks power on and off.

Other Thoughts: Reviews have not been best for this model but I still will buy most of hardware from ASUS. The computer was for a friend.

1 out of 5 eggsNot happy

Pros: I can't find any yet, it's never worked right.

Cons: Graphics Failure
Network Failure
Hanging on boot
Refusing to boot

Other Thoughts: I have built MANY a system, and this is the first mainboard I have had to RMA in years. It's been trouble from the start, and Asus wants to repair the thing? For real? I usually buy MSI, and I will buy MSI again. They can fix this one, and it will go on a shelf.

Great Layout, no bad design decisions
Solid Board, good construction
AM3+!
Amazing performance per $, Can't be beat
Good starter motherboard for beginner builders

Cons: No Cons I have experienced so far.

Other Thoughts: Paired with a FX series AMD processor this thing is a great deal! Used this in a build I put together for a friend as a workstation, no problems so far, I don't expect any, ASUS has always put out great products.
