5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget board.

Pros: -Very stable, lots of video ports VGA/DVI/HDMI, nice UEFI BIOS layout, worked with Ivy Bridge right out of the box.

Cons: -Layout of the board is acceptable. The BIOS on the board right out of box was very old. It was the earliest that supports Ivy Bridge. Stock rotation could have avoided this.

-There are only 2 fan headers CPU/CHASSIS, no SATA-III ports, and no front USB 3.0 or audio. I knew this buying it, and will just be used as spare.

Other Thoughts: -For the person complaining about the ASUS rebate not working, you did not follow the directions. As with any rebate, it does take some time. I paid the extra $1 to get it quicker.

4 out of 5 eggsASUS H61M-A/USB3

Pros: Price. Feature set. Reliability (to this point). Seems to work well with various CPU's I have tried. BIOS.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: Have only bought and sold Intel boards for past 10+ years, but that is not really an option anymore. I needed another brand to go with and felt ASUS would be solid. So far theses boards have been good, have done about 10 to this point. No idea on long term reliability. Retired hundreds of Intel boards over the years that were still running fine after 7+ years. I'll take 5 years or so, we shall see.

5 out of 5 eggsrock solid - easy install

Pros: Has all features advertised on box and they work like they are supposed to

Easy install - stable
SATA 6; USB 3 (rear only)
Micro ATX

Cons: Not really a con since I knew this when I bought board, but be aware that this board doesn't have plug for front USB 3.0.cable.

Hopefully this will save you a hassle if you plan to use a case that has front USB 3.0. I learned this the hard way when cases were just starting to have the front 3.0 port and I bought a board that didn't have the header to plug the cable into. You need to look at the diagram, or if possible open the box, to make sure.

Other Thoughts: I received my rebate quickly - I always have a dollar knocked off rebate for the fast debit card option. This is the 4th straight rebate in last few months I have received from Asus without a problem (3 motherboards and 1 graphics card). Pay attention to instructions and you'll get it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Value Board

Pros: Using a combination of previously-used parts and new parts, I built a machine for my father for less than $300 using this board. Everything worked out of the box, setup was easy, and I was running Windows in less than an hour. No PCI slots on the thing, which was a huge plus since PCI expansion cards are getting more expensive while PCIE expansion cards continue to drop in price.

Cons: Only thing I can really nit pick is the lack of rear panel USB ports. Not a huge issue if you have extra expansion slots though as the board itself has 3 USB 2.0 headers. If you've done any builds in the past, you probably have a few expansion slot based USB header adapters laying around.

Other Thoughts: System Build

i3-2100T - used
650Ti 1GB - new
H61M-A/USB3 - new
WD 500GB HDD - used
Fractal Core1000 - new
ASUS PCE-N15 - used
GSkill Ripjaws F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL (2x2GB) - new
Windows 8.1 - used

1 out of 5 eggsmotherboard works fine, rebate hassle

Pros: motherboard works fine

Cons: just know that if you purchase it with a rebate, you can pretty much count the rebate amount as lost money, as they denied my application saying i hadn't submitted my newegg receipt. i've filled out at least 20 rebates from manufacturer's on newegg and know the drill, and can follow directions. never had an issue before

Other Thoughts: there are plenty of other companies that make decent motherboards. i'll chhose a different one next time.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I am sorry that you are having issues with the rebate process. If I may, I would like to help. Please contact me through email, and we can discuss this case further. Thank you. 3418339.

Regards,

Mark

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -small yet still has the capability of decent expansion

Cons: -the onboard ethernet didn't work right out of the box (see other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: I tried everything I could think of to make it (the ethernet port) work but it stayed dead no matter what I did. I finally talked to Asus support and they confirmed that it was dead. Rather than send it in for replacement and wait who knows how long for the replacement to arrive (I was on a time crunch because of Christmas) I just bought a $10 wired networking card and everything was good to go.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is my fourth ASUS mobo and as with the other three, it recognized everything from the very first power up.

It's very reliable, my system is flawlessly stable.

Zero complaints.

Cons: It doesn't make Shaq make more movies.

Other Thoughts: I'm fine with the new bios. I'm surprised it's such a hot topic.

Keep this in mind: it only has one chassis fan slot. My chassis had two fans which require mobo connectors, so I have one fan doing nothing. I'm not docking an egg, because it's my fault for not looking closer at the specs.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board

Pros: Inexpensive, well built, and easy to use bios. Not a lot of overclocking features, but if you wanted to do that, you'd have something more expensive.

Cons: None for what it's intended for.

Other Thoughts: I like ASUS and they do live up to their reputation

Pros: Motherboard is small and compact. Has so many features and it worked perfectly with no problems.

Cons: Nothing really!

Other Thoughts: A couple people mentioned about not liking the new BIOS screen. Once you go into BIOS you can change the look of the screen to the older format. Also someone mentioned about having trouble installing Windows 7. I installed Windows 7 Professional and I encountered no problems at all with the installation. Make sure that you check the compatibility of your parts first, the problem may not be your motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for my HTPC/light gaming rig

Pros: Came in a bundle with i3 3220 and 4GB Corsair RAM. Everything installed without a hitch. Recognized my SSD just fine. No hiccups or issues.

Cons: I prefer the classic BIOS look, but I can deal.

Other Thoughts: System is i3 3220, 120GB Samsung SSD, Radeon HD 7850 1GB, ASUS H61M-A/USB3 mobo, Silverstone 450W PSU

I have read that ASUS anti-surge protection is overly sensitive, and indeed I tried a cheap brand 400W PSU and the ASUS surge protection was triggered and shut my system down. So was it actually a bad PSU, or was ASUS being too sensitive? Who knows. Could be a combination of both. So I had to shell out for a $65 PSU which was not in my original plans.
