4 out of 5 eggsASUS RMA Could be Better

Pros: I bought this motherboard 14 months ago and it was very stable during that time. I was very satisfied with it's performance and felt it offered great features for the price.
I have built over a dozen computers for myself and prefer ASUS motherboards and purchasing them at Newegg.

Cons: One day the built-in audio stopped working. After doing some trouble shooting with ASUS support, it was determined to be a problem with the motherboard. They authorized a return. I would have to pay shipping back to them for them to determine if the board was damaged by me. If it was not, they would repair or replace it and send it back.
Rather than pay about $15 for 2-day shipping to them and be without my main computer for probably close to a week, I opted to purchase and install a separate sound card.

Other Thoughts: I would have preferred that ASUS send out an immediate replacement and bill my credit card. This way I would have minimal down-time.
If the returned board is determined to be bad and not damaged by me, they could refund my credit card charge.
If it was determined that the board was damaged, they could simply keep the amount charged on the credit card.

When in the UEFI BIOS, the cursor jumps around a lot; not that big of a deal because you pretty much set the BIOS up once and that's it.

1 out of 5 eggsand yet another bad board

Pros: worked for a little while

Cons: Think Asus has cheapened their processes as they used to make excellent boards. Now after a short period they die and when you turn it in for warranty they claim physical damage but don't even tell you where. Hear from other system builders this is becoming a problem with asus and apparently we need to switch to another brand.

Other Thoughts: did while just sitting there running for a few months. Nobody even goes near it as it just runs simple camera setups for monitoring. We will be switching to a more honest company.

3 out of 5 eggsBoard pretty good, Asus Service not so much

Pros: Have built and sold about 8 systems with this board. Pretty stable setup overall.

Cons: Hardware wise only real con is that 4 USB ports on the back is rather skimpy.

Of the 8 I've have 1 bad one (not DOA but giving video artifacts and locking up randomly) that I'm trying to get replaced. That bad one started me on the ASUS support journey and after learning about ASUS RMA policies I'm seriously doubting I'll buy/sell another one of their products again. Every other manufacturer if the product is under warranty and you are approved for an RMA you can give them a CC and get an advanced RMA. ASUS will only do this with specific products of which this board isn't one of them. That makes the bulk of their products much less attractive for the micro/small business market.

3 out of 5 eggsH61M-A/USB3

Pros: No Pros for Newegg refusal to address a replace RMA snafu.
The board worked fine except for the UEFI, which got a bit flaky,
after booting once, into a UEFI enabled desktop, which was burned
onto a USB key.

Cons: I assumed, it was a motherboard problem and asked for a replacement.
I made the mistake of registering for a rebate with Asus, before fully testing
the motherboard. The replace RMA was denied; which I expected could
happen. But, what I did not expect, is that I would get a flakier motherboard
back which no longer recognizes a cdrom partition burned onto a USB key;
runs the1600MHz DDR3 memory at 1333MHz instead of 1600MHz; and
display CPU benchmark numbers for an Intel G1610 to be slower than those
of an 8-year old Athlon X2 5200+ CPU.

All these problems are preventing me from testing the UEFI thoroughly.
And furthermore, the serial and part number do not match the motherboard
I sent back.

Since Newegg obviously sent back the wrong motherboard, it should be
easy to track down the one, I sent back; or issue a replacement for a
misplaced motherboard.

4 out of 5 eggsmost reliable board it seems

Pros: it has handled my i5 and a gtx 780 flawlessly. I have had windows 7 installed since day one, had no issues installing it. I also have mac osx maveriks dual booted with no problems. best budget board for a non k part for sure!!

Cons: wish there were more fan headers, bought a spliter of sorts that lets me connect my 4 fans in my case.

3 out of 5 eggswin some loose some

Pros: easy build. bios is really nice and easy to navigate. usb 3 a plus but does not have usb3 connection for front panel cases.

Cons: bought 3 for quick and easy workgroup setup. one board has a video problem - loading the video driver causes infinate reboot loop (win 7) - the other 2 were flawless and nice installs. tried everthing imaginable to workaround but this board is just not being nice!!! tried to RMA and cannot because it was part of a combo and newegg said the whole combo had to be returned :(..... i just had to order a new board and trash this one. 60.00 + 2 day shipping (75.00) profit waisted.

Other Thoughts: i wish RMA's were easier - i wish that every time i order in bulk that i could get all working parts - this is not the first or the last time this will happen - i will start adding a new line item on my accounting software for estimates ..... 100.00 bad hardware cushion :)

seriously - the 2 other boards were great and i would buy again unless i receive more defective boards ..... i will keep you posted

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget board.

Pros: -Very stable, lots of video ports VGA/DVI/HDMI, nice UEFI BIOS layout, worked with Ivy Bridge right out of the box.

Cons: -Layout of the board is acceptable. The BIOS on the board right out of box was very old. It was the earliest that supports Ivy Bridge. Stock rotation could have avoided this.

-There are only 2 fan headers CPU/CHASSIS, no SATA-III ports, and no front USB 3.0 or audio. I knew this buying it, and will just be used as spare.

Other Thoughts: -For the person complaining about the ASUS rebate not working, you did not follow the directions. As with any rebate, it does take some time. I paid the extra $1 to get it quicker.

4 out of 5 eggsASUS H61M-A/USB3

Pros: Price. Feature set. Reliability (to this point). Seems to work well with various CPU's I have tried. BIOS.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: Have only bought and sold Intel boards for past 10+ years, but that is not really an option anymore. I needed another brand to go with and felt ASUS would be solid. So far theses boards have been good, have done about 10 to this point. No idea on long term reliability. Retired hundreds of Intel boards over the years that were still running fine after 7+ years. I'll take 5 years or so, we shall see.

5 out of 5 eggsrock solid - easy install

Pros: Has all features advertised on box and they work like they are supposed to

Easy install - stable
SATA 6; USB 3 (rear only)
Micro ATX

Cons: Not really a con since I knew this when I bought board, but be aware that this board doesn't have plug for front USB 3.0.cable.

Hopefully this will save you a hassle if you plan to use a case that has front USB 3.0. I learned this the hard way when cases were just starting to have the front 3.0 port and I bought a board that didn't have the header to plug the cable into. You need to look at the diagram, or if possible open the box, to make sure.

Other Thoughts: I received my rebate quickly - I always have a dollar knocked off rebate for the fast debit card option. This is the 4th straight rebate in last few months I have received from Asus without a problem (3 motherboards and 1 graphics card). Pay attention to instructions and you'll get it.
