2 out of 5 eggsExtremely Frustrating

Pros: When it worked it worked well. I never got crashes from in Windows or because of games or settings. Nothing ever overheated, fan control worked OK, OC was stable. I never had driver issues or issue with the Asus software.

The layout is pretty standard and ports are easy to get to. It also looks pretty good in my case.

Cons: I have had this board since Jan, 2014 and I have had some issues from day one. The first and most persistent issue is that I could not shut down my computer. I would shutdown from in Windows, it would all turn off, then a few seconds later it would turn back on again. I was told this was from something keeping the computer awake, but it wasn't from Windows. I removed every accessory and device I had and still the issue was there. BIOS updates did nothing. I could live with this since I very rarely turn my computer off so I decided all was well and continued to use it daily for a year.

Towards the beginning of the year I started to have problems with the board forgetting which drive was my boot drive, so when I did have to restart and random USB device would be chosen.

I started to have massive issues after enabling bitlocker. After enabling, it was lucky to boot into Windows. I reset the BIOS more times than I can count and tried to update the BIOS 3 times with nothing more than luck letting me boot.

After I somehow got the settings stable and could boot to the correct drive and get the bitlocker password prompt, I enter my password and whether or not it goes in to Windows or restarts for no reason is, again, pure luck. I let it sit in time out for an hour or two and I can boot like nothing even happened. No windows error logs or anything to go by.

In my opinion, it is completely a BIOS issue and Asus was no help when I contacted them. I'm going to buy a different board, RMA this one, then sell the replacement.

Other Thoughts: No actual component failures, so that's a plus I suppose. I have never had the kind of weird and inconsistent issues on any piece of hardware in my life that I get on this board.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS ROCKS!

Pros: Inexpensive, FAST,

Cons: Won't allow use of WIndows XP

Other Thoughts: Purchased this motherboard and messed up the CPU socket during the install. I sent it back to ASUS for repair fully expecting to pay for the repairs. ASUS replaced the socket on the motherboard free of charge and returned it to me quickly. ASUS ROCKS! Customer for Life! This thing boots FAST. I love this motherboard.

3 out of 5 eggsCompatibility issue with Xeon E3-1231V3

Pros: appears to be very well made; optional protection kit reasonably priced ($20 after rebate)

Cons: While some websites claimed it would work with Xeon E3-1231V3, I was able to get this MB running with mine. I switched to a Gigabyte Z97 MB and it is working great so far. My wild guess is that you probably need to update the BIOS to solve the compatibility issue. So if you want to build on a new Xero CPU, keep this in mind.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Features

Pros: Great UI, plenty of slots for everything, though a little more cramped than I anticipated. But that's what you get for going microATX.

Updates a breeze, subtle color scheme. Would recommend.

Cons: Again, just a little cramped, but that's not really a con.

Other Thoughts: High quality motherboard. Love it.

1 out of 5 eggsBoard is junk!

Pros: The board seems nice based on the spec's... But that's about it!

Cons: I own two of these boards. The first stopped posting after about 2 months. RMA'ed the board. They "fixed" the issue and sent me the same board back. It did post but then would cause Blue Screens when ANY add-on card was installed. RMA'ed it a second time, they sent it back again but I still have the same problem. They do not provide ANY information on what the problem was or what was supposedly "fixed". Now my second board is having the same issue where it does not POST.

Other Thoughts: DO NOT BUY THIS BOARD!

Manufacturer Response:

I am sorry that you are having issues with the motherboard. When you have the time, please send your complete computer part list, along with any troubleshooting steps tried so far, and I will do my best to help. I can be reached by email. 3691703.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: UEFI BIOS-able to use a mouse. Nice GUI
Military grade? TUF components. (Hopefully true)
3- 4 pin chassis fan headers laid out on the edge on 3 different sides.
1- 4 pin CPU OPT header
1-4 pin ASST fan header
I/O shield easy install.
BIOS flashback utility
4-Rear 3.0 USB ports
Header for 2-front 3.0 USB
Angled SATA ports makes it easy for good cable management
Nice board for gaming
ASUS brand

Cons: Not really a con but not crazy about the light brown/brown color scheme. And with all the mods in today’s world, it would be nice if we could choose any color scheme for any board. Maybe someday. I suppose you could just buy the optional armor kit and paint that. Idk

Other Thoughts: My first board was an A7N8X bought in 2003 at Newegg. This board is still running, and for the most part used, in a printer server computer in my first build of that same year. That lifespan alone for a motherboard is good enough for me to keep using ASUS. 11 years and still kicking. What can I say?

A big plus for me on this board was the 3 chassis 4-pin fan headers. I have a 3 pairs of fans so I was able to take advantage of those headers without a fan controller. Computer fired right up the first time, recognized cpu, ram, and reported cpu temps and fan speeds immediately. Since I was using a Laing D5 Vario pump with the speed control lead plugged into the CPU fan header, that too was reported immediately and accurately. Sure, every mb is going to have advantages and disadvantages, but honestly, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

btw- this business of the board feeling flexible? Felt to me lke any board I've ever worked on. It is perfectly fine. It is bound to feel flexible to a certain degree.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat so far

Pros: Zero problems with installation, BIOS is easy to use. Board design is intuitive, although it does flex a little. Just feels like a quality product when you crack open the box. The little TuF marketing doesn't hurt campaign

Cons: A little pricey for a mATX, but after the recent price drop, it's not bad at all.

Other Thoughts: Got this product within 2 days with free shipping. Glad to be buying everything from Newegg!

4 out of 5 eggsNot too shabby.

Pros: UEFI

Cons: UEFI

Other Thoughts: Setting up a dual-boot Linux/Windows box is more complicated with the new motherboards. After trying to get Debian up and running alongside Win 7 with UEFI for a while (I hear it can be done, I just couldn't figure it out) I had to fall back to Legacy BIOS. Now it works like a charm, but you lose some of those nifty UEFI features.

That was more of a UEFI rant, really. It's a pretty great board.

4 out of 5 eggsMICRO compact build

Pros: Micro sized build also compared with my old X58 Gigabyte board has 32gb ram compared with 24gb and sata3 to sata2

Cons: Depends on software and workloads see other thoughts its a micro build is a positive

Other Thoughts: Not as much difference far as speed performance goes depending on Software and workloads but does make a difference with more capacity and newer chipset
