5 out of 5 eggsASUS is KING!

Pros: - Does what ASUS says it can
- No issues with faulty firmware or other malfunctions
- UEFI is clean and functional
- Handles the hardware I've thrown at it (Haswell i7-4770k, HyperX RAM w/ XMP profile at 1600 MHz, GeForce GTX 780 Ti, Corsair AX860 PSU)
- Great bang for buck
- AI Suite 3 makes software-assisted overclocking very easy and shows gobs of data pertaining to temperature status and other info on the board

Cons: - Included driver disk that claims to have Windows 8.1 drivers caused so many BSOD's on a Windows 8.1 install, I had to reinstall Windows and obtain drivers from support.asus.com - see my other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: I chose this motherboard to run a high-performance multimedia/gaming PC that I assembled in January 2014. This system has been actively used for about a year and one week at the time of this review. As mentioned above, I've really not had any issues with this board. It has done everything I've asked of it, and appears to be capable of everything ASUS advertises. I like the gold accenting. It isn't flashy, but more of a dull gold. It looks good from the window in my Fractal Design Define R4.

The UEFI is very clean and functional, but certain sub-menus can look a little cluttered. I've thrown a Haswell i7-4770k, 16GB of HyperX Black RAM with the XMP profile set to 1600 MHz, EVGA's Superclocked GeForce GTX 780 Ti with ACX Cooling and Corsair's AX860 modular PSU at this board and it's handled it like a champ. AI Suite 3 makes it easy to get a general overview of what's going on with the board. You can also use AI Suite 3 to perform a software overclock. I know a lot of people like spending hours upon hours bouncing between Windows and the BIOS tweaking the overclock themselves, but this is a great alternative to those of us who don't know squat about overclocking. It performs plenty of stress testing, and my particular CPU (remember, no two CPUs are really the same) was able to be overclocked from Intel's stock 3.4 GHz to a nice 4.5 GHz. I ran Prime95 for a few hours and it was a very solid overclock.

The ONLY issue I encountered was back when I originally set this board up in January 2014. I had a fresh install of Windows 8.1 on a Samsung 840 EVO SSD, and I tried to use the included driver disc that was labeled as including Windows 8.1 drivers to set up the system. I installed the included Intel chipset drivers, and not only did I receive a Blue Screen of Death in the middle of install, every time I tried to reboot the system I'd get a Blue Screen of Death. I have no clue if ASUS mislabeled the disc or if Intel shipped incorrect/faulty drivers. I reinstalled Windows 8.1, downloaded driver's from support.asus.com, installed via a USB drive and all is well. You shouldn't use the included driver disc anyways (unless you have to!), so I was probably asking for that issue.

Overall, it's a very solid board. I'm thinking about building a Broadwell system this year. Regardless of if I build that Broadwell system or use this one for another three or so years, I will more than likely use an ASUS board again. Logan from Tek Syndicate showed me this board and he has nothing but positive things to say about ASUS boards. The videos he did with JJ from ASUS demonstrating AI Suite 3 and the other features were pretty much what sold me on it. ASUS makes excellent hardware at an affordable price point, and as such, I do not regret my decision buying their Z87-PRO board. It's excellent value for money.

UPDATE (April 25, 2016): It's been over two years since building my PC with this board -- and it has continued to be trouble-free. I haven't had even the slightest issue. I have no doubts in my mind that I can get to at least five years of computing from this board.

1 out of 5 eggsThe mother have booting problems after 6 months.

Pros: The motherboard looks good but it has its own flaws. The wireless function of this mother works great and you don't have to work hard to get it working and the connectivity is excellent.

Cons: The motherboard started giving problems after six months. Since I have read many complaints from several owners of this motherboard, I decided not to worry myself about calling the manufacturer for a replacement. The motherboard right now will not start outright but, on a lucky day, after several restarts It will. At times, it will not work at all and I will have to shut the computer down. After going through the manual I found out that the motherboard was experiencing a hardware failure.

Other Thoughts: I will not recommend this motherboard to any serious installer.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We appreciate you taking the time to inform us on your ASUS experience. Please accept our sincerest for the inconvenient experience. Have you already tried testing your motherboard outside of your case on a non-conductive surface to check for a possible short in your chassis? Clear CMOS and see if the board will POST. If it will not, pull one memory module and place the other stick in the slot furthest from the CPU and see if that helps. Please make sure to complete the power off cycle before testing hardware to avoid damaging your hardware. I would recommend flashing to the latest UEFI if you can get the board to POST for optimal system stability. If you have any further questions you can contact me directly at cl-nestor@asus.com.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Best Regards,
-Nestor

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Mother Board!

Pros: ASUS is a reputable company and has been around for a long time.
Several USB ports and supports USB 3.0. BIOS is easy to use and update. Affordable and stable. 4 DIMM slots with dual channel support. ATX design with options and room to add-on extra cards.
Runs Windows 10 64 bit smoothly, no issues with the board since upgrade, and occasional driver or OS issue (W10 bugs) that in a week or so disappear with MS updates.

Cons: At this time this board has been running strong for 6 months without any problems.

Other Thoughts: This is the 2nd build with this board and both systems are running great, so I recommend this board to others.
I would use this board again (or one that may supersede it).
Be sure to update the BIOS.
This board comes with software to over clock it while logged into Windows. I do not OC so I can comment on how it works.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: - Lots of options for various things you might want to use
- A colour scheme that I personally like
- Owned for Over 2 years without a single issue
- Updating the bios is quick and painless
- Lots of settings to play around with

Cons: Quite a bit of bloatware with fairly gimicky features and poorly created software comes on the install cd, but hey you don't have to install much of it if you don't wan't to and you still get 99% of this boards functionality

Other Thoughts: Awesome MOBO that is perfect for my mid sized gaming rig, I've run both 7950's crossfire and 980tis in sli on this thing and while you won't get the most space between the cards it's not really an issue provided you have good airflow in your case. Out of the box I had some random Crossfire/ATI issues but the quick and painless bios updates fixed that no problem.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 1 hour

Pros: It is supposed to be a great motherboard, if it works.

Cons: It died in the middle of OS installation, after running for only about 1 hour. The computer shut off and would never come back on again.

Other Thoughts: RMA with this marketplace seller is taking forever and they aren't communicating well about it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your helpful feedback. It's unfortunate to hear that your Z87-PRO Motherboard has failed on you after just 1 hour of use. Have you tried disconnecting your PC from the electrical outlet and Re seat your CPU/other components? What are your system specifications? Please email me at cl-nestor@asus.com. I'd like to know more about the issues you are experiencing so we can try to troubleshoot your problem. Please refer to this number N151075611 in regards to your case.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!,

1 out of 5 eggsnothing but problems

Pros: lots of features, many of which seem to work

Cons: Qty 2 have been nothing but trou

Other Thoughts: First board install - CPU fail LED. Swap PSU, no change. Swap I7 for I5 CPU, no change. Swap for identical mobo, fired right up. All build components used were brand new right out of box.
Second board install - Win 7 seemed to install ok. Installed drivers and ASUS Utility AI Suite 3. LAN worked long enough for Win 7 to do its 200 updates then died. Reinstalled LAN driver several times - LAN still dead, "can't get valid IP"
Next problem - CPU overheat. Reboot keeps often pushes me into BIOS following "CPU overheat" warning. Since I can't figure out what they think I can do in BIOPS to solve, I exit to Windows. Monitor CPU temp and fans Using their AI suite, CPU temp often ramps up and then back down.
Did the first mobo blow the I7 I've got installed?
Do I reinstall the I5 I original used for troubleshooting the first and second Z87 PRO? How's this going to fix the LAN?
LAN seems to be problem one - I'll file a second ASUS support request
Look - I've built 20 computers in the last 10 years. I don't 'tune' them in any way. I just plug the parts in and let them go and never had any problem with any mobo (or uP or mem for that matter) b4. Everybody seems to rave about ASUS mobo's and I may or may not have used them b4. This has been, and remains, a very frustrating experience. Hence I post my first review ever.

1 out of 5 eggsNo help from customer support

Pros: Worked fine for about two months.

Cons: I still have no RMA. I spent about 7-8 hours on the phone with about 6-7 reps on several days with no result. I could not provide the SN since it was cut out from the box for Asus rebate. The reps were giving different info as to where the SN can be found on this MB. But all this was incorrect. When I asked for a supervisor the agents did not transfer me under various pretexts. One said that the supervisor would call me back. But no one called. Twice they just hanged on me without explanation. So far I am left with a bad board, wasted time amd money, no RMA, and the conviction of not going for Asus ever again.

Other Thoughts: As I understand from the reviews customer support seems to be a problem not only with this company. One of the reps said that they have many cases involving unavailable SNs. There are simple resolutions to this problem but apparently they are not moving forward with it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valery,

I am sorry that you still have not gotten an RMA. I can try to help you setup an RMA. Please contact me at cl-justin@asus.com and I will help you to the best of my abilities. Your case # for reference is N150768900

1 out of 5 eggsArrived DOA

Pros: I have never had issues with any of ASUS's products.

Cons: Arrived DOA, motherboard pci slots seemed to be half an inch too far to the right of Rosewill Thor case pci slots. Caused the computer to shut off after 2 seconds, then it would turn back on and shut off continuously. After fixing this issue, i5 4690k was locked at 800mhz and even after changing bios settings. Very disappointed with this product as I have never had issues with ASUS products, unfortunately this will be my last purchase from them.

3 out of 5 eggsOk mb

Pros: works

Cons: The SATA port connectors are pointed to the sides instead of up so if you have a mid-tower or a case that would be somewhat tight, it is a pain to plug in the SATA cables. Probably need a full-size giant tower for it to not be a pain.

Default motherboard settings won't recognize a DVD drive or USB for the purpose of booting a Windows install disc/usb-stick. The number indicator on the MB telling me the error number was not helpful in this situation.
