2 out of 5 eggsChicken and the egg

Pros: Inexpensive, should offer overclocking for K and Pentium G3258 processors

Cons: Cannot update BIOS (apparently) without a currently supported processor

Other Thoughts: I bought this to go with the G3258 I ordered. The board powers up but won't give me any video output. I tried all of ASUS' suggestions including installing a speaker to hear any post codes (there weren't any). I suspect that I have to update the BIOS, but I don't have a supported processor to use to do the update. Another issue is that this board is smaller than standard M-ATX, and the standard m-atx mounting location at the bottom right corner (near the SATA connectors) doesn't exist. On my case, it has permanent, molded in mounts. I didn't even try mounting it seeing that issue - I would have to put a couple layers of insulating tape to make sure it didn't short any onboard components. Seems to be a relatively well built board, with obvious cost cuts - cheap low-end Realtek sound and network, 3-phase CPU power, only 2 fan connectors. I wish it would have worked, as I have now had to purchase a Z97 board which should work out of the box for this processor. Manufacturers really need to figure out a way to update the BIOS when a processor isn't supported.

5 out of 5 eggsStupid easy

Pros: Very easy to build with this board. Good layout, PCIE 3.0, USB 3.0, plenty of SATA III connectors. Ridiculous BIOS GUI with mouse support (I'm old and thus used to only text based BIOS with only keyboard navigation).

Cons: Only one chassis fan plug.

Other Thoughts: Ordered 2 of these for a nephew and his friends first gaming PC build. It was perfect for the build without breaking the bank.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None

Cons: Motherboard is trash, none of the 6.0 SATA ports worked at all, the 6.0 SATA cords I plugged into my HDD and broke the receiving part on my HDD. Has 4 Memory slots, only 1 slot worked. PCIE 3.0 slot didn't work at all. The on-board graphics card plug was just as defective a the the video slot.

Motherboard is not plug and play, BIOS do not load up automatically you have to manually do it every time you unhook the power supply from the motherboard. The user manually will tell you all about what to do if you own another computer in your house, and in the MIDDLE of telling you how to boot BIOS from the CD/DVD drive will switch mid paragraph into how to boot with a flash drive but not finish with the CD/DVD drive. The first screen shot telling you how to get to BIOS EZ screen doesn't even exist and you can barely see the picture anyway. No where in the manual will you be able to find how to do a dry boot, but the manufacture will recommend you do a dry boot first before installing the motherboard in your computer.

Next Day Delivery is available for this item, but it will take more than 2 days to process, and if its defective like this one is and you have to return it, it goes to CA so if you live on the east coast I wouldn't recommend on paying a single penny for shipping because it will not be honored, your next day purchase if you have to return this, it will be returned via ground delivery.

Over all I don't even want to rate this motherboard a single egg? but I have to click on something for me to continue. Servers wasn't even civil, part was trash, and shipping makes for a trio of what just happened to my order I paid extra money to get better speed and service.

Other Thoughts: I have build every computer my family, close friends and I have ever owned (desktop only) I can take apart and put back together every single last screw inside a laptop just not worth building my own their. I spent 3 years in the military giving me an equal to an associates in just computer hardware. Never once in my life have I ever experienced so many problems with installing a motherboard.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

From what you are explaining, it seems as though your motherboard is defective. None of the issues you described is common with this motherboard, and I would recommend setting up an exchange for the defective unit. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. My email is listed below. 3758295.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Board with Decent Features

Pros: This is a nice full featured board that gives you Haswell support, USB 3.0 (2 rear and on board header for 2 more) Sata 6GB's and 3GB's, built in audio (which sounded good), and all in a Micro ATX board.

Cons: None at this time

5 out of 5 eggsGood First Motherboard

Pros: Cheap
Reliable
PCI E 3.0
USB 3.0 headers as well as rear ports
4 DIMM slots for RAM

Cons: Not Z87

Other Thoughts: This was a great first motherboard for me. I'm looking to overclock now so I will be getting rid of it but I haven't had any issues with it. Its a very solid board with a lot of great features.

4 out of 5 eggsAsus B85M-G

Pros: Very nice motherboard for the price, runs really well, surprized to see the newer "fancier" Bios with this board, ran without a hitch, would recommend to a friend.

Cons: Not enough fan plugs on motherboard but there never are on micro ATX boards, I/O Shield fit awkwardly, may just be the case being used though, Annd the labeling on the motherboard didnt make a whole lot of sense on why it was labeled how it was on where the plugs go but matching the pins is a pretty straightforward process.

Other Thoughts: Great budget board

3 out of 5 eggsYou can find a better board for the price

Pros: - Inexpensive mATX board.

- Decent amount of USB ports including one USB 3.0.

- Nice, clean, easy to navigate UEFI BIOS interface.

- Pretty good layout considering the size of the board and what's technically possible.

Cons: - Flat out awful on-board audio quality especially over HDMI. This is really one of the biggest cons of the board as I'll have to buy a PCI x1 sound card. I really can't say enough for how bad the audio quality is. ASUS really dropped the ball on this one. I understand the B85 chipset is on the low end but there's really no excuse for this. Okay, enough...

- Serious I/O lag. Quite frequently when my PC is sitting idle and I go to click on the start menu (or do anything) the computer locks up for about 10 seconds before resuming normal operations. Very inconvenient. For example, I have a WD Raptor as the hard drive my OS is installed to. After the PC has been idle for a few minutes and I grab the mouse to open Firefox or Windows explorer it locks up. Then I hear the HDD spin up before resuming normally. Not sure if this is something with the I/O on the budget chipset or what. Even with the Windows power profile set to perfomance this happens. Didn't have this problem using the same drive on my last board. Not sure if this is due to the budget chipset or not.

Other Thoughts: The two main issues of slow I/O and poor audio quality are a deal breaker for me. For another $20-$30 you can get a quality Z87 based mATX. I'm probably going to order one of the MSI Z87 boards and sell this one. Too bad, live and learn.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard

Pros: I was skeptical getting a board other than a z87, but this time around I was on a tight budget. I was not disappointed with this board. It works phenomenally. The UEFI bios is very good. I mostly use this motherboard to game and watch movies. The micro atx form factor paired with a small case can make this computer great for taking over to a buddies house and gaming. I'm looking in to a few cases because at the moment I got this motherboard in my old full tower 400r which now has a lot of vacant space.

Cons: The only thing I can think about (mainly my fault) was how the motherboard booted with the intel hd igpu graphics and I had to search a little bit in the bios to use my discrete card.

And the Asus Q connector wasnt included, but for this price I wasn't expecting it.

Other Thoughts: Great budget motherboard if you are willing to sacrafice a few features. ASUS really gives you good quality on all their products wether they are ROG, Sabertooth or budget mainstream. Impressive.

5 out of 5 eggsMB works great!

Pros: Easy to setup, flawless operation. No problems with the board once you get the latest firmware on it.

Cons: The board didn't work with my Nvidia 780 video card at first, but firmware fixed that issue (they should ship the board with current firmware installed)...
