1 out of 5 eggsGreat when it worked

Pros: Great features

Cons: First 1 died after a year and a half. Sent it in but was not told what they fixed or if they replaced it.
2nd one came back greasy. Sata ports were not working correctly. Still was not told if they fixed or replaced it.
3rd takes forever to boot up with brand new SSD. Ethernet port doesn't work all of the time. Windows takes forever to boot on a fresh install. USB 3.0 ports sometimes work and sometimes don't with the same devices.

Other Thoughts: Kinda sad to deal with this a 3rd time and install it a 4th time. I buy several ASUS branded items for my builds. Starting to look at other brands to replace this board. I don't feel like being without a computer for a week or more again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We appreciate you taking the time to inform us on your ASUS experience with the Maximus VI Hero. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this issue has caused. Please double check each cable on the motherboard including your 24pin/8pin power plug connectors. Please make sure all your GPU connectors are firmly installed and that all your SATA drives are receiving power from your PSU. Clear CMOS and see if the board will POST. If it will not, pull one memory module and place the other stick in the slot furthest from the CPU and see if that helps. If you need a help with any technical questions or general inquiries you can reach me at

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Best Regards,

4 out of 5 eggsGreat board

Pros: I have had this board just over two years and never had a problem and it has run great.

Cons: Its dead

Other Thoughts: Yesterday i hooked up a new corsair water cooler and when i turned the system on the fans or pump were making a really weird noise then i noticed all the fans weren't running. Then BAM everything shuts off. The start and reset buttons weren't even getting enough power to stay lite for more than 10 sec. I tried my power supply with another motherboard and it worked fine. I'm not sure if the 24 pin connector when bad or something else but now i have to buy a new board :( . I'm going with ASUS again because i had a good experience with this board.

1 out of 5 eggsComponent burnt up

Pros: Board worked fine for a year and a half, and then one day one of the buses burnt up. Power supply is fine, the board was simply faulty and ASUS will not cover it under their warranty.

Cons: I will never do business again with ASUS after this encounter, their customer support is extremely sketchy. They will do anything in there power to keep you from speaking to a manager. The phone number that I received with my email regarding the RMA has been continually unreachable. I cannot express my disgust with this company and wish that I would have never given them my money in the first place.

Other Thoughts: My recommendation is do not do business with this company they will do anything possible to avoid covering the warranty.

4 out of 5 eggsASUS Maximus VI Hero

Pros: I love the way this board looks, and I like the piece of mind it gives me knowing its made with quality parts. I haven't had any issues so far that weren't fixable - ill expand on that in the cons. So far this has been performing well and I don't have any complaints.

Cons: The only issue I had, which was why I took one egg, was with sound. There was some sort of glitch where the sound would randomly spaz out and get really loud, until I muted it. Then it would go back to normal. This seemed to have been fixed a little while back with an updated driver, but It was a very annoying few months.

Other Thoughts: Wish my board looked like the new iteration of this one.

1 out of 5 eggsnot happy with ASUS

Pros: N/A

Cons: poor quality product
poor customer service

Other Thoughts: the motherboard stopped working correctly. i've sent it back to ASUS twice now and they haven't told me what is wrong with it nor have they told me what they fixed both times i sent it to them... my guess is they did nothing to it and just sent it back to me. it's still not working. i'm still well within the warranty time frame and i guess since ASUS already has my money they're not concerned with helping me. i would recommend you look to another company that's going to give you a quality part and better customer service.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer Jeff,

1 out of 5 eggsAsus trials...

Pros: High end feature sets on both the Z87 Expert and the Maximus Hero VI... BUT!!!

Cons: I have gone through 6 Z87 Expert boards and was fed up with all the downtime and the expense of shipping all those boards back. Asus was good enough to replace the Z87 board with a new Maximus Hero VI. It lasted 4 months and now will not post! Note well! I tested each and every board with new PSU's, RAM, cables... Did every conceivable test and all to no avail...Now Asus will not even Advance RMA my next board! Prior to these problems I had to return 1 Asus motherboard from all my builds over the past 20 years. I have no idea what the problems are stemming from but I am totally convinced that I have eliminated every possible problem on my end.

Other Thoughts: I can only hope that the next board lasts!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear John,

I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with your motherboard and the inconvenience it caused you. When you say your motherboard isn't posting, does the fan still spin? If you believe that your board is faulty, you can submit an RMA at and get it replaced. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at and I will help you to the best of my abilities. Your case # for reference is N150914732

4 out of 5 eggsGood Board, Minor issues

Pros: the board looks fantastic, went with my build color scheme great, and got it at a fair price (160). This was a first build with ASUS and it was very easy to set up.

Cons: The USB 3.0 ports is buggy, I'll be playing games and suddenly the keyboard and mouse shut off and turn on 5 or 6 times for about 3 seconds. this doesn't happen often, but it shouldn't happen at all...

3 out of 5 eggsRebate Bait and Switch

Pros: Normal Pros

Cons: Normal Cons

Other Thoughts: One decision factor for purchasing this model was the $30 rebate but the UPC (886227553570) on the box is different then the one covered by the rebate (886227500697) so my claim was denied. For the non-rebate cost I'd look to a different board.
