1 out of 5 eggsThe worst experience trying to build a computer

Pros: Price, form factor

Cons: The first motherboard did not work. Sent it back. The replacement did not work. Sent it back. Its replacement did not work either. This collection of metal and plastic is not worth its weight in dirt. Still trying to figure out how to get a working motherboard from ASUS or get my money back.

Other Thoughts: Did not buy it from Newegg, from the other big online computer parts store. An absolute waste of time. Have built computers using motherboards from other manufacturers over the last fifteen years. This is the only one that has failed right of the box again and again and again. Will not buy an ASUS motherboard again.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsSome People

Pros: I love seeing people write reviews who are 100 years old and afraid of change. Not understanding that yes you can actually install Windows XP on AHCI, However, WHY!!!? . Might as well throw DOS on there.

Cons: No Cons, I know how to install things

Other Thoughts: Stable ASUS like always. You should always throw the disc that comes away and download updates from the manufacture.

4 out of 5 eggsAsus Poor Quality Control

Pros: Great board if it doesn't arrive DOA.
I have used 3 of these boards now, 2 of them are flawless and run good for a less expensive basic board. I need absolute Quality control, returning items is not effective use of my time.

Cons: In 2 years now I have changed from ASUS which I used completely for quite some time. I then started having issues and moved to Intel, intel was flawless but no longer makes many boards. Then switched to Gigabyte, they were terrific but don;t make many boards that I need anymore. Went back to ASUS and they still have poor quality control, NO MORE ASUS for me. Not sure where to go now.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns Linux CNC Fast

Pros: I bought three different motherboards to test with Linux CNC. This was the fastest of the three. Ubuntu 10.04 installed with no problems. Boot time is 15sec to desktop.

Cons: none yet.

5 out of 5 eggsA very nice MOBO

Pros: Love the UEFI, most comprehensive I've seen to date.

Cons: Not enough fan connectors and the only two are all the way towards the back of the case, so bad location for at least one. I won't take an egg away for this though since it's a mATX board and limited space.

Other Thoughts: I usually purchase full ATX boards for my workstations in mid tower cases and I had purchased a Gigabyte H87 board that I was having problems with. Replaced with this ASUS H87 board and booted right up with a Windows7 startup fix. No issues at all, much better UEFI than the Gigabyte it replaced and far more stable. Just wish it was full ATX with the additional connections that would come with, but I knew this going in. Highly recommended!

4 out of 5 eggsDesign Could Be Better

Pros: Straight forward install... appears to be good board.

Cons: 1. Both case fan connectors are located side by side near the middle rear of the board; unable to connect front case fan and take advantage of mobo control.

2. Installing mobo drivers leaves you guessing as to the proper order to install drivers and what is and is not necessary. Very much unlike Intel mobo installation software.

3. A little surprised by only one "clamp" on the end of the DIMM slots vs. two which I thought was "the" standard.

4. Would be nice to have a large printed sheet of the mobo with diagrams, header connections, etc. (like Intel mobos); not onlyu diagrams in a small booklet.

Other Thoughts: As a system builder, I've grown accustomed to Intel boards. Now have to go back to ASUS since Intel's out of that bujsiness. I do like this board... just wish ASUS would give a little more attention to detail on the cons I've cited.

1 out of 5 eggsMade me depressed

Pros: So far, none.

Cons: Unreliable. Will not accept DDR3 from the compatible vendors list. Tested with two different memory brands (Kingston and Corsair), fails to boot with both. Only boots after pressing the MemOK! button, then operates the memory at half the frequency (400 MHz instead of the 800 MHz of a DDR3-1600). Sometimes even forgets the safe settings and requires pressing the MemOK! again. I have to replace it with something else.

Manufacturer Response:

I am sorry that you are having issues with the motherboard. At your earliest convenience, please send me an email regarding this case. Within the email, please provide the serial number of the motherboard, any troubleshooting steps tried, and your computer part list. 3556158.
