5 out of 5 eggsTop notch motherboard.

Pros: Several SATA III/6G Connectors (6 or 8?), has a connector for USB 3.0 so your case 3.0 connectors can take advantage of this, easy to use software.

Cons: None at this time.

Other Thoughts: I havn't built a computer in 10 years - wow does this motherboard have a lot of features, both hardware and software. Everything has been working great so far. Love the fact that the motherboard has a connector for my case USB 3.0 connectors, so I don't have to bastardize some from the rear.

The looks are great - but the performance with a i7-4771, SSD and G.SKill memory is mind blowing.

4 out of 5 eggsAsustek - Support second to none

Pros: Feature rich, cutting edge performance coupled with consistently crafted good looks. The attention to detail and the most advanced auxiliary features make this board a top choice no matter your criterion... speed, O/C ability

Cons: The Z87 has received negative reviews from users, pertaining to a variety of issues, however these seem to be "early days" release boards. The Cons tag must lie in too many buggy will not post boards. I am currently on my 5th Z87-Expert mobo since August 2013....but Asus earns my trust, loyalty and respect for the way they have dealt with my issues.

Other Thoughts: There are quite a number of extremely thoughtful and extensive reviews already on this site so I will limit my comments to my peculiar circumstances with this board.
For clarity, my experiences came on the following system:

Zalman GS 1200 case, Zalman 9900 CPU Cooler, Asus Z87 Expert motherboard, 32 G G-Skills DDR3 RAM, Core i-7 4770K CPU @ 4.6 GHz, 3G ATI radeon 7950 video, Total 11 Terabyte hard drive storage (W7,W8 & W8.1 on separate SSD boot drives (W8.1)Samsung 840 Pro 256G, (W8)Crucial M4-CTI128 G, (W7) OCZ Vertex3 128 G), 46" Philips monitor, Logitech wireless keyboard & mouse, Logitech Z series speakers, APC UPS system, all circuits dedicated on GFI; Rosewill RBR1000-M PSU
The first board "bought the farm" in under a month. Early performance was slower than aniticpated. The second board arrived in early September '13 and although it ran reasonably well, I was disappointed. It began to have issues... unexplained freezes, random reboots, BSOD's and it began to slow down. I performed a battery of tests on all the components...Memtest, stress routines and so on... nothing pointed to a culprit other than the board itself,
I contacted Asus support again, provided a document explaining all the testing done and the results.. The next board arrived very quickly and lasted less than a week. Asus cross-shipped the next board and when I installed it, it failed to POST. Throughout my dealings with Asus support I have received nothing but the best in rapport and cooperation. The fact that I have used well over one hundred Asus boards in building systems for myself, family and friends, coupled with the rare instances of a defective product and the immediate and helpful Asus support group that I will continue to use Asus boards in all my projects. Every component in a computer has the potential to fail and cause grief... what happens when you deal with the manufacturer is where the deal is sealed or broken. Asus, in my experience, does not believe in breaking deals or customer confidence in their products. In the end, I gave 4 eggs, solely due to the frequency of the problem. As I run this board through it's paces I will update the status of the Z87 - Expert mobo...

2 out of 5 eggsMOSTLY Works

Pros: I've had this board since the end of January 2014. It was an easy setup. Everything fit how it was supposed to, and there is plenty of room for add on cards. Some of the PCI-E 1x slots will get covered when using a wider card in the PCI-E 16x slots, however.

I've recently added more than just an audio card to the board. That's where the CONS come in.

Cons: I thought everything on this board was fine, until I plugged in a USB 3.0 PCI-E card into one of the other PCI-E 1x slots. None of them work. The only one that does, is #1. Updating the BIOS to the latest version didn't fix the issue. And there are tons of others out there complaining about the same thing.

Essentially, I can only use my PCI-E 16x 1,2,3 slots, and PCI-E 1x slot #1. I'm not sure if I was given a bad board, but buyer beware. You could end up with one that suffers from the same fate as mine.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I apologize for the issues you have had thus far. When you have the time, please contact me through email as I may have a solution in this matter. Thank you, and have a great day. 3628488.

4 out of 5 eggsGood mobo

Pros: It does what I got it to do

Cons: I like the BIOS set up, boot up screens, and support site better on the ASRock boards I have, no biggie, just a "me" thing.

5 out of 5 eggsVery well built wioth excellent control software

Pros: Looking for a replacement for my 7-years-old Xeon-based workstation, I found this board that is very well built, has all the bells and whistles that will probably last me another 6 or so years and has the control software to do overclocking without having that particular knowledge or experience. Even with a moderate i7-4770S processor this board is extremely fast.

Cons: I'll update this if I find any.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Board for Hackintosh

Pros: Board is stable and is well prepared for SLI setups. The BIOS is easy to use and the dual boot function is great. RAM is stable running at 1600 32gb. Thunderbolt works perfectly and works very well on the OSX side. OSX installed without a hitch and didn't require any boot cammands

Cons: When the board arrived there were a couple bent pins on the south side of the board. Upon closer inspection I decided to fix it myself seeing as Newegg/ Asus would never accept the board back (I heard many horror stories saying they would claim it was user error) After purchasing a magnifying glass I fixed all the bent pins and board functions perfectly.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this as well as an Asrock z87 dual thunderbolt 9/ac board for my two systems. The Asrock is more stable but for running OSX this board would be my choice.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Motherboard -

Pros: Awesome. I don't know why others have had problems, but mine does everything it's advertised to. Works with 2 Corsair Vengeance 8GB kits (CML8GX3M2A1600C9) just fine, even though they're not on the compatibility list.

Cons: Documentation (and descriptions in Bios) was NOT written by a native English speaker (maybe a computerized translation?), because much of it is unintelligible. Doesn't affect funtionality though, so I won't doc an egg.

Other Thoughts: So, some people had some DOAs, and were super whiny about it. So what? Everything works very well. I would buy again, and I already have recommended to friends.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent board

Pros: Asus has always been #1 on my list for motherboards since the original Pentium era. Excellent gaming performance

Cons: None aside from minor initial boot issues. Wish the color scheme was a bit more red/blue/black as I upgraded from a ASUS ROG Rampage Extreme.

Other Thoughts: As long as you are careful to follow standard ESD procedures and take extra precaution around the LGA area of the board when installing the CPU it should work great.

Config:
i7-4770, 16gb Mushkin RAM, EVGA Geforce 760, WD5003AZEX / WD10EALX / Asus BW-14D1XT/ Antec 1200w Quattro PSU / Antec P193 / CoolerMaster Blademaster 120mm fans/CoolerMaster Vortex sink

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: works well, looks good, allows 3-way sli

Cons: I had to go through a few forums to find out that the 51 Q-code is the motherboard recognizing the thunderbolt controller and not an actual memory error

Other Thoughts: 51 Q-code is the motherboard recognizing the thunderbolt controller and not an actual memory error and will stay that way until a new bios update when it will change

2 out of 5 eggsSomewhat Functional Product, Terrible Support

Pros: Great features, so many 6Gb SATA, really utilizing latest Intel chipset features to their potential

Cons: I purchased RAM for this board specifically based on ASUS published documents (Patriot Viper). First boot and got ASUS Q Code 51 (a memory error according to manual). Additionally, my VGA attached monitor would not achieve native resolution 1920x1200 (it limited to 1920x1080, although ASUS publishes on their website higher support from this port). I switched monitors, cables, etc - no matter, the maximum resolution from VGA did not change. Driver un/re-installs from both ASUS and directly from Intel have been no help. I've supported enterprise IT infrastructures for years, let's say the basics are covered.
I submitted a support ticket on ASUS website 7/17/2013 specifically requesting help for memory errors. The response the following day was to check my monitor cables and reinstall drivers, nevermind the initial request spelled out what I had done. With that in mind I respectfully stated I had tried that and asked that we troubleshoot the memory errors. The second response was to try another monitor. Again, no help for memory. Set aside the remainder of the details, I never received any help what-so-ever for the memory errors. Three months later, a BIOS update resolved them. A BIOS update that ASUS' BIOS update tool could not detect was available, I just decided to check their site directly.
My VGA monitor will still not adjust to 1920x1200, even though every other computer I attach it to supports the resolution just fine.

Other Thoughts: When you sign up for an ASUS account and when you register your product, your occupation and technical skill level are requested. Why doesn't ASUS use this information and adjust their responses accordingly. Better still, why not just read the content of the request and answer accordingly. Furthermore, why not answer all of the questions asked?

Manufacturer Response:
