Exclusive Combat Model

The ASUS P9D-X is a new UP serverboard designed as an Intel® Denlow platform entry model to provide a cost and power-efficient platform. The P9D-X is based on the Intel® C222 chipset, featuring three legacy PCI slots, dual server-class Intel® Ethernet and digital power control. It is ideal for SMB, web, printer, files, and other entry-level server applications.

Features

ASUS Motherboard

Designed to Support Three Legacy PCI Devices

Besides the latest PCI-E technology, P9D-X keeps up to three legacy PCI slots on board which can fulfill various customers' requirements. Customers can move their existing legacy PCI add-on cards to P9D-X, and still benefit from up-to-date Intel® Xeon® E3-1200 v3 Processor Family and DDR3 memory technology to their solutions.

Dual Intel® I210AT Gigabit Ethernet

The ASUS P9D-X ships with dual server-class Intel® Ethernet ports with the I210AT controllers, which doubles queues compared to previous-generation Intel® 82574L controllers. This is better for virtualization applications. In addition, the dual LAN teaming ports provide high networking bandwidth with load balance and fault tolerance functions. This design greatly reduces data processing bottlenecks during network traffic.

High Power Efficiency with Digital Power Control

Digital CPU power controls work perfectly together to match digital power signal (SVID) requests from the CPU, with ultra-fast sensing and response efficiently delivering precision power. Accurate delivery reduces waste, and provides more stable voltage. P9D-X VR power efficiency reaches an impressive 90%.

ASUS Motherboard

Most Cost-Saving for Customers

The P9D-X is designed for readily-available chassis, with a standard ATX form factor, and compatibility with desktop power supplies. Customers can upgrade to the new Denlow platform with just the P9D-X while keeping many existing components, thus protecting their investment. Meanwhile, the product is power saving with low power-consuming Intel Xeon processor, and therefore requires lower thermal solution cost.

Outstanding I/O Design

The ASUS P9D-X supports one PCI-E x16, Gen3 x16 link with professional VGA supported. Besides, P9D-X is built to support two USB 3.0 ports. Built to connect easily with next generation components and peripherals, USB 3.0 transfers data 10X faster and is also backward compatible with USB 2.0.

Server Management: ASWM Enterprise

ASWM Enterprise software provides one-to-multiple centralized management, including BIOS flash, remote control, and power control, all through a colorful and informative graphical interface.

SATA DOM (Disk on Module) Ready

A SATA DOM is a flash drive simulating a hard disc which can be used without additional software or drivers. It is particularly helpful within embedded computing systems or thin clients. ASUS-exclusive design adds an onboard 4-pin power connector and USB header to make SATA DOM installation simple and easy.

Friendly Design for Front I/O, Front VGA

An accessible rear power button is reserved onboard for use as front panel ports when reversing the serverboard. An extra 15-pin VGA header features front-panel monitor connectivity, helping customers with greater flexibility. These designs provide flexible I/O integration for users to fit in various computing environments.

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine for small business

Pros: Works fine using products from compatibility list.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I had been using the P8 series but switched to this P9D. My longest running machine with this board is about 8-months. There have been zero issues on set up and operation.

4 out of 5 eggsAllen B. Out To Lunch

Pros: Works as expected

Cons: Needs more SATA 6 ports

Other Thoughts: Why would Allen B. call Supermicro about an ASUS board? Why doesn't he read the specs stating that an onboard video processor is installed on the MB. Does he really have this MB? Building systems for 20 years and can't read the specs?

1 out of 5 eggsMakes a great TV Tray

Pros: Feature-rich

Cons: Intermittent/persistent POST Issues even with compatible hardware

Other Thoughts: Booted twice. Now will either power loop with no post, or power up, black screen, without any post. Will not even POST an error code with no hardware attached.

All parts and memory verified on compatibility list. Was running newest BIOS as of 06/30/2014.

First problem product I've ever had from ASUS.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works flawlessly on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5. However, Red Hat 6.3 fails on boot up (does not like the USB 3.0 ports). Not a problem.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I am definitely a believer in ASUS motherboards. I have never experienced a problem with them.

1 out of 5 eggsHad to RMA it- won't post

Pros: this mobo is feature-rich.

Cons: I got this motherboard to boot one time, and then started to load Windows 2012R2, before it failed due to a "configuration" issue. During that one post, I saw the memory, CPU, hard drives were all good. No more boots after that.
With a new Intel Xeon E3-1225v3 cpu, it goes as far as beeping 4 times and shows the number "55" on the lower right screen. Then it recycles, beeping 4 times all over again.
From other posts and research I found that the C222 and C224 -chipset mobos need a graphics card installed. (the web site and manufacturer never state this!). So I then installed the graphics card, cleared the bios, pulled the battery, etc. and restarted. Exact same post results- 4 beeps. I called Robert at SuperMicro tech support; they have NO idea what 4 beeps mean. Said I should RMA it. So I did. Very disappointed- do the C222/C224 mobos need a graphics card installed? I tried diff. power supplies, booting out of the case, nothing attached to the mobo, just 4 beeps.

Additionally, this mobo comes with NO driver disk. You have to download everything from their FTP site. FTP site download fails 2/3 of the way through. Their support web site for this mobo has dead links also. Very challenging to get the needed software.

Other Thoughts: I've been building systems for over 20 years; as a Systems Admin I've done this a few times.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Allen Valk,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. Assuming all hardware installed are compatible with the motherboard, are all known good components and seated properly, and the power supply has the power requirement needed then the 4 beeps is a BIOS related issue. Please try flashing the BIOS to the most current version if it's outdated. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3508541 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Regards,

Rodel
