It can directly reduce CPU wattage to an indicated level on demand, and manually switch to Max Power Saving Mode for further energy savings, creating a more efficient PC. The exclusive Away Mode* puts your system into an extreme energy-saving stance, and even shuts down unused add-on I/O ports while it can continue to download, stream, and backup content while away from your PC. 1 out of 5 eggsdevices only intermittently detected at post

Pros: none

Cons: After another HTPC motherboard decided to die, I thought I would change brands and get a trusty ASUS. It was a nightmare because the SSD only appeared about 30%of the time after reboot. Same with the optical drive. So I thought it must be the bios, so I updated it. Still the same problem. I did put an old mechanical sata hdd and that seemed to fix it for the boot drive, but the optical drive was still only showing up about 75% of the time at post. So I bought a brand new PSU, problem persists. I've never seen a motherboard behave this way after 15 years of builds. I think it has something to do with these new UEFI systems, they just had to take something that was working fine for 20 years and make it even more prone to error. What good is a fancy UEFI if the motherboard is too blind to notice that there are devices connected to it by wires?

Other Thoughts: When you buy computer equipment, build it right away so you can go through the hell of finding out which of these rats nests will actually work, cause it seems 20% of motherboards are broken when you buy them.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard

Pros: Fits really well mounted in my Cooler Master Elite 130 mini-ITX case. I have a core i3 CPU in it. Everything works great.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Awesome BIOS interface. ASUS does a great job. I mainly use the computer for viewing video files when hooked up to my TV. Have SSD drive connected to it. Runs Win 7 like a champ.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat board

Pros: I have 60+ of these and never had a issue. They work great and are low on heat.

Cons: Supposedly a bios update allows you to use the new i5-4590s but on both boards I ordered that was not the case. I updated the bios by the book and still no post with that CPU. I ended up swapping out for an i3. FYI

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this board.

Pros: Cheap. Name brand.

Cons: Doesn't even work. I got 2 boards in 2 days.. both completely DOA. Both boards got power, wouldn't post. No beeps with speaker plugged in.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board for a HTPC build I was doing with an Intel I5-4590S.

I thought I was crazy for a minute. I got one board home, and tested it for about an hour trying to figure out why it wouldn't POST. Finally I gave up and RMA'd it.

Then while I was waiting for the RMA I ordered another one. Brought it home.. same thing. Naturally I assumed I was making some bonehead mistake somewhere.. but I triple checked everything and all was well. So I RMA'd that one too.

Finally I went and swapped to an ASRock H87M-ITX. Got it home, plugged it in, everything was golden. Id recommend going with either the ASRock that I got, or spring for the ASUS H87 board. I currently have that in my FreeNAS box and that has been working very well.

To be completely fair to ASUS, their customer support was pretty good. I talked to someone on their site, went through all of the steps I took, checked the part numbers against the compatibility sheet, found no issues.

The quality on this board is awful though. ASUS offers much better products than this usually.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Budget ITX Board

Pros: For a budget build, it has everything you need and no expensive frills you don't need. Asus quality and stability. No issues at all, it just works great. Will run Haswell-refresh CPUs (after Bios update). Great UEFI BIOS, extensive options for a budget chipset.

Cons: Only 1 chassis fan header; another would have been useful. No big deal. though - my case fan has a 4-pin molex option and a 3-speed switch.

Other Thoughts: Paired this with a new-Haswell Pentium G3240 and 2x2GB 1333 RAM - great little budget system, easily handles high-res music, large HD movies, photo editing, etc

1 out of 5 eggsBy Far the Worst Customer Experience Ever

Pros: ASUS has always been known to have the worst customer experience. Just google it yourselves. If by any chance your mobo goes DOA after the Newegg Return Policy good luck dealing with ASUS customer support. Chances are they will charge you a $120 repair fee. They do anything they can to deflect and have the uttermost strict policy when it comes to their returns. I will never, ever, buy ASUS again.

Cons: Horrific return policy. Board became DOA 30 days after I received item and had to deal with ASUS directly. They just deflect, deflect, deflect. They are the Sony of motherboards meaning they overcharge like crazy when you can get as good of a motherboard via other manufacturers.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I apologize for the issues you have had with our support.

When you have the chance, please contact me through email, including the exact problem with the motherboard, and we can discuss this case further. 3730371.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable Asus

Pros: Love Asus since day i began building personal pcs. Don't get me wrong, i had received faulty board in the past. But i like to say 9/10 i had purchased in past are pretty flawless.

I love the software suite, and always provide great bios and driver update for at least 1 to 1/1/2 years.

Cons: none, can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: more usb ports.

5 out of 5 eggsGood if it meets your needs

Pros: It has a usb 3 header on the board which not many similar h81 ITX boards have.

Cons: No rear panel s/pdif (optical sound) out..

Other Thoughts: A good mobo for a small form factor build if it has all the outputs and SATA connections (only 2 are 6 Gb/s).
