5 out of 5 eggsGood Board

Pros: Budget board, Has HDMI

Cons: No Raid or PCI slot

Other Thoughts: I have been using this board as HTPC for almost a year with Intel Pentium G3220 CPU with no problems I don't know why others are having so many problems maybe they don't follow proper ESD handling and ZAP the board with STATIC ELECTRICITY and damage it.

5 out of 5 eggsgood basic board

Pros: Reliable board, up and running with no problems. Choose because it had 2 PCI express in Micro format at a good price range.

Cons: Don't like the PS2 ports and VGA port that are outdated and useless. But most all MB's still come with these so no points off.

Other Thoughts: If you understand the limits of the H81 chips you should have no complaints. Wanted to test out an i3 4330 CPU for a low end gaming machine. Was very pleased with the outcome. Built this system using a lot of parts I had laying around (case, power supply, DVD, video card, sound card)
my system:
i4330 CPU (new)
240GB M500 Crucial SSD (new)
1TB western digital Blue HD
Asus DVD
Sound card
NVidia 550 Ti
650w corsair power supply
Micro tower case by Asus

3 out of 5 eggsEthernet dead after 8 months

Pros: Good value for money (I thought)

Cons: Ethernet port dead after 8 months

Other Thoughts: I like Asus products. I have built several computers so far and used them for years and years, never had things break or go dead while I am sleeping. Ethernet port suddenly stopped working. Will check with Asus whether they can replace it as it is within 1 year. I don't remember what the warranty was. Need to look it up as well.... :-(

1 out of 5 eggsAlmost worked...

Pros: Easy to handle and install. BIOS controls are pretty cool.

Cons: HDMI was DOA. LAN adapter soon followed. Worked great for about 12 hours, then on-board LAN started disconnecting and reconnecting all by itself. No amount of tweaking (or BIOS updating) would fix it.

Manufacturer Response:

I am sorry that you are having issues with the LAN and HDMI ports of the motherboard. If you are within the return period, I would recommend setting up an exchange for the item. Should you need any assistance in this matter, please let me know through email. 3647061.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Choice for My HTPC

Pros: Easy installation
Easy setup
Good fit in case
Does all that I need

Cons: None noted

Other Thoughts: The motherboard on my old desktop PC was getting flaky, so rather than upgrading it I decided to replace it with a new PC and rebuild the old one as a media center. I've worked with computers for decades (started with mainframes) and have done many homebrew electronic design and construction projects over the years -- everything from point-to-point wiring to surface mount -- but have never done any work on PCs. Installing this board was extremely easy and all the connectors matched up with the connectors for the existing case hardware perfectly. This board does not have as many USB headers or expansion slots as my original, but for the HTPC application I didn't need to connect the SD card reader, Bluetooth, etc., and the only cards I needed were the TV tuner and WiFi. The ASUS manual is thorough and easy to follow and the drivers installed without a problem. The HDMI works great -- both video and audio.

1 out of 5 eggsNever again

Pros: None

Cons: DOA unit & another bad unit received after RMA that took me about a month.

Other Thoughts: It's just frustrated when I get a DOA motherboard for a new build. There are many other components to test even it seems working fine. When I found out the unit was DOA after I tested with different memory, power supply, various video output without using separate video card. Nothing worked. I thought it could happen because it's an electronic. It can happen some time.
But when I found out that it does the same after I received it back from RMA department, it's just not acceptable. All those time of troubleshooting and getting resources for the process was just tiring. I even purchased extra motherboard to make sure that it's the motherboard that causes the trouble. With new motherboard (not ASUS) it works like a champ.
I've been searching for compatibility issue when I first tested. Correct me if I'm wrong.
My build is(or was going to be):
this motherboard
Ripjaws X Series 8GB F3-17000CL11D-8GBXL
Thermaltake TR2 TR-600 600W Power

Below are not even connected since it wouldn't even post
DVD burner
Hard drive
Video card

I really like to get this refunded but I don't think that's an option I have now. The refund period is well over while I try troubleshooting, getting the RMA processed.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Support experience

Pros: Chose this motherboard looking for something barebones. Has everything I need for a cheap gaming build and nothing else.

Audio drivers allow you to use the line in and microphone port for out puts to a 5.1 audio system.

Cons: First one came DOA
Asus support was terrible. an hour on the phone sitting on hold before I gave up and used their live chat. Were they only troubleshooting advice I got was make sure everything is plugged in before they ended the session and left me to fill out a survey. I filled out the survey marking that my problem was not resolved and that I was dissatisfied with the support provided put in my email expecting a response which they couldn't be bothered to send. So I had to RMA it through Newegg.
Pcie is 1.1
Bad Support experience means I don't recommend this to anyone.

Other Thoughts: Build
Core i5-4570
GeForce GTX 660
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB 1333 oc to 1600
Toshiba Q Series 128gb ssd
IN WIN Dragon Slayer case

The pcie slot is version 1.1 which has excellent comparability with pcie 2.0 and pcie 3.0. the benchmarks put my scores in the same level as those using motherboards with pcie 3.0 the pcie1.1 is not a bottleneck for any video card that would commonly be paired with this motherboard. People don't pair barebones mother boards with video cards that cost over five hundred dollars.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget motherboard

Pros: price
small factor
supports Intel 4600 graphics

Cons: doesn't have connector for USB 3.0 front plate

Other Thoughts: I bought 3 of these for low budget PCs and absolutely love them. First of all, for roughly $60, its a great MB. Its supports Intel graphics 4600 which is better then most under $100 video cards. I trust its ASUS quality. mATX form factor allows it to be placed into small cases. Using this motherboard, i am able to build PCs under $500 with i5 CPU, 8gb RAM, and SSD drive, with reasonable video card which can play games on medium graphics setting.
