1 out of 5 eggsIts a Gamble

Pros: It is very aesthetically pleasing. I like the color scheme.

Cons: I received a defective board.

Other Thoughts: I guess I lost on the gamble like many others who bought this board. I received a defective board and am now proceeding to RMA it. Hopefully I get one that works and the RMA process goes smoothly. If I get one that works I will definitely update this review again. I only bought the board because it was on sale and came with a rebate. I would stay away unless you have amazing luck or don't mind stressful situations.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: This is an update on my recent review stating that I couldn't get the board to POST.. This is from months ago just finally got around to updating.

So I RMA'd and newegg sent me a new board extremely quickly since I have a premium account, I didn't have to pay for any shipping either which was nice. When I plug everything back up it works like a charm! I have been gaming on this $4k build for forever now and it blows every other computer I've gamed on out of the water. I love its overclocking utilities and it's aesthetic design for the BIOS. I would recommend this product to anyone using the z87 socket as it doesn't bottleneck the memory/cpu performance along with the pci bridges

Cons: None worth mentioning

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought it along with an i7 4770k. Works great

Cons: Occasionally when I shut down the computer, it doesn't quite shut down all the way. There will be no signal going to the monitors, or anything else of significance, but all the fans are still running. It'll stay like that for hours, until I press the power button again

3 out of 5 eggsUSB 3.0 Ports Pooped.

Pros: Well this is a fantastic board. Overclocks, and handles pretty much everything i throw at it. Just put in an SSD and its lightning fast. Other than that check the con for my only problem. Handles my 2400 mhz Mushkins like a champ.

Cons: Heres the problem the USB 3.0 ports as in the 4 closest to the PS/2 plug have failed 4 months in. These are the Asmedia 107x USB 3.0 ones. The intel seem to be perfectly fine. I was going to RMA this board but the chances of recieving a bad board are high so i will take my 20$ and purchase a PCI E usb 3.0 card. and save myself some headache and downtime.

Other Thoughts: I was always a fan of Asus but i generally used gigabyte boards theyve been rock solid for ages. But something caught my attention with this one so I gave asus a shot and well it was good for the first 4 months but it leaves a bit of a sour taste. I'm not going to knock the brand they are fantastic everything other than the USBs are great. Ill leave this product at a three egg for the fact that I now have 4 USB charging ports. Ill leave this review for now and report back in a few months time.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I am sorry to hear that you had a problem with the USB ports on you board. Did you happen to RMA it already? If not, please let me know and I will be happy to assist you with setting up an RMA so that I may look into your case further. Please include your reference number within the subject line. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you have tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you! Cs# N140935174

3 out of 5 eggsHardware Issue

Pros: I'm on my third generation of self built computers using Asus motherboards. Overall I am very satisfied and the bios tuning just keeps getting better. This was a snap to set up.

Cons: Intel I217-V onboard has failed. No network. Hopefully this is not a common problem and I just got unlucky with this board.

Other Thoughts: I'm planning on exchanging this board for another. If the next one shows any signs of problems I'm going with the AsRock Fatality (built a sims 3/4 comp for my daughter around it, so far so good.)

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed with repair service

Pros: This was a great board, feature rich and fast, while it lasted.

Cons: After four months of operation, board would not power up. The +5VSB indication was on, nothing else. I removed and tested the power supply; no problems. I installed a different power supply; no change in motherboard condition. I noticed some components in the bottom-left corner (near front-panel audio connector) became VERY hot after a few minutes under power. I got an RMA for the board, stripped it down, and sent it in. ASUS repair informed me there were bent pins on the CPU socket, and they would not attempt any repairs until I ponied up $$$ to fix the socket.

Other Thoughts: I have to wonder if the first step in ASUS repair guide for their products says "1. Look for an excuse not to honor the warranty". I can accept that the board arrived at their facility with bent pins in the CPU socket. But, if I had not had to remove the board from my system and send it in for repair, this damage would not have occurred. BEFORE any damage to the socket, there was a problem with the board.

I am very disappointed in this lack of customer support. I have bought many ASUS motherboards, peripherals and a netbook over the past few years. ASUS has always been my first choice for motherboards. I WILL seriously reconsider any future purchases from ASUS, if this is how they treat their long-time customers.

5 out of 5 eggsSerious Overclocker

Pros: Z87-Pro without Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, neither of which I wanted on my PC. Got it from The Egg for $140! UEFI has insane amount of overclocking options with Haswell i5 and i7 in mind. Using CPU-Z and AIDA64 CPUID I saw that my investment in an EVGA Supernova 1000 P2 was well worth it as voltages are dead on at all times -even while overclocking the snot out of CPU and RAM. LED "Q-Code" readout is great for troubleshooting problems and simply being aware of where your MB is at before the OS boots. Came in handy during my overclocking crashes. Heat sinks and other gold bits look classy without being garish. ASUS Q-Connector made front panel wiring the easiest I've ever seen. Every manufacturer should do that! 8 SATA III ports for great storage options. Fan controls would be nice to use if I wasn't already invested in a Sentry Mix 2 for all of my case fans. Temp monitoring is very good. XMP profile of compatible G-Skill Sniper RAM dialed right in. Overclocked my i5 4670K up to 4.4GHz and RAM to 1866, both stable. Onboard Power, Reset, Direct Key, TPU, EPU, and Mem OK all make tuning the PC in an open case VERY convenient.

Cons: UEFI Profiles are a bit sketchy to set up and reload. If you are careless (like me!) it's too easy to accidentally overwrite a profile that had a lot of time in it, and the interface of that tab is not as intuitive as the rest of the UEFI for some reason.

Other Thoughts: Teamed this MB up with 1866 Sniper from G-Skill, a Core i5 4670K, H110 mounted topside in a C70 case, EVGA Supernova 1000 P2 PSU, with Win 8.1 on a Sandisk Extreme 240GB SSD. Happy Days!

3 out of 5 eggsGood and bad.

Pros: The good, its a solid board and the build quality is what i have come to expect from Asus. Packaged with every thing one needs for proper install making it a straight forward task with out searching for pieces UEFI is nice with easy and advance as always. User manual contains plenty of info and over all its a impressive piece visually and performance wise.Used it for four months until i got bad luck. Then things happened...see below.

Cons: Well the only con for me was that it failed with a code 00 just after 4 months. Tested PSU ,CPU, Memory you name it and even when it came down to just the CPU board and PSU the board still would not post. Just code 00. Sad that this happen.I have yet to deal with Asus on this as the RMA has just been started. Rest assured i will report back with how it was to deal with them in regards to this and how long it took . I do hope they will step up and provide fast and fair service and i can have my gaming rig up and going asap. Lets hope this con turns out to be a positive.

Other Thoughts: I still will rate this board at least a 3 as if it had not failed so soon then it would have been a 5. I am a Asus fan but i expected this board to last a good long time as my others did. All other possibility were tested in detail and ruled out. No hard over clocking or anything was done ether. I have read else where and here that code 00 isn't as rare as i hoped it would be. Like i say i will give Asus the opportunity to keep their credibility on how this proceeds from here.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus Z8&-Pro MB

Pros: Worked exactly as I expected. Motherboard manual is very helpful but covers everything including the color of your toilet paper.
The Asus web site has updates - bios

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: I think I got what I paid for and am not using toe board to its full potential - yet.

5 out of 5 eggsReally happy with this board

Pros: Superficially, looks really neat.
Lots of USB 3.0 ports
LED readout and codes make diagnosing problems super easy
Really user-friendly BIOS
Optimization settings are really robust

Cons: None that I've encountered. This version of the board doesn't have wifi, but I had no interest in connecting my desktop via wifi anyway.

Other Thoughts: I'm really happy with this board. Ran into a bit of a snag on the system build but the LED readout code pointed me right to the easy fix and now it's running flawlessly. Great board for a reasonable price.
