4 out of 5 eggsASUS H81M-K

Pros: Price. ASUS brand. Decent feature set

Cons: Seem to be some driver issues.

Other Thoughts: Got this board as part of an Intel Pentium bundle. While installing Windows 7 Pro 64, I had some shutdown issues where the system would not fully power off. After installing all drivers, PC is behaving. After Intel stopped making motherboards, I have been using all ASUS boards. This is really the only notable issue. Not sure I'll get another one of these as the H61 series seems to be a little more stable.

1 out of 5 eggsbad news and headaches

Pros: was cheap

Cons: cannot install windows. every time it goes to BSOD. also tried using SATA drive that had working windows already and went to same BSOD. the other hardware like DVD drive, that one might feel is in question works fine on other boards, without issues. tried many of the bios tweaks mentioned in help threads from others experiencing THE SAME issue and most blamed the buggy UEFI bios.

Other Thoughts: wish newegg had been pushing another brand for the bundle. am very unhappy with this purchase. wish i did more research before purchasing. won't be purchasing another asus product in the future. had in the past, with great success, but apparently things have changed with this company.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent MB

Pros: Everything seem to work as it was suppose to (After Update). Everything you see is pretty much what you'll get.
Updating took up around 10 minutes.

Cons: Only 4 USB ports. Slight problem for me, due to the fact that this MB is used for a Lan center.
BIOS were not up to date. 10/10 board I've received were outdated. Majority of them were Version 0401. Some were 0703. They must be updated to run the 4th Gen Intel Processors.

Other Thoughts: I currently have 45 of this board and had to manually update the BIOS to 0805. 1 Month ago it was 0804. For those who are planning to use this board, especially with the latest Intel CPU, make sure you update the board.
I've paired this MB with the Intel Celeron G1840.

4 out of 5 eggsNot a bad board

Pros: Affordable. ASUS generally means quality. Pretty basic feature set but that's to be expected at this price range.

Cons: Only 2 SATA III connections and 2 SATA II connections - I feel like most haswell boards these days are all SATA III - but I'm not taking an egg for that.

NIC issue that so many reviews talked about was present on my board. This is sort of ridiculous, does ASUS even test their products anymore?

Other Thoughts: Came as part of a DIY bundle, building this up for a relative who only needs a very basic system. If it weren't for the NIC issue, it would have been perfect.

After a BIOS update and driver update, it looks like the NIC has been stable so far in my testings, ran a simple ping test for about 5 hours and no packets were dropped. Since this appeared to fix the issue I'm still willing to give it 4 eggs but I can't say it inspires a lot of confidence.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for providing your feedback sir. You are correct that installing the driver update(listed below for reference) resolves the intermittent LAN issue. Should you have any further issues, please contact me through email and I would be happy to assist you. In addition, please provide me with the complete parts list you are using and we can discuss any issues you have with the motherboard further. Thank you. Cs#N140734002

4 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm

Pros: I usually don't go this cheap for a MB, but I've had no issues and would buy another if someone wanted a cheap build.

Cons: none - it is what it is and works solid.

3 out of 5 eggsBad NIC

Pros: Good board for the price

Cons: Onboard NIC issues. Just dies for no reason in Windows 7, requiring a reboot or at the very least a soft reset of the NIC in Windows. Can't explain that to my grandmother, who was the recipient of this build. Guess I'll just shell out a few bucks and get a PCI-E NIC like others have done.

Other Thoughts: Never had this kind of problem with ASUS. Most of their stuff has been solid for me, although this is my first "budget" buy from them. From what I've seen in the reviews, this is quite widespread on this board and ASUS is doing about as bad a job as one can at remedying this. Really not the end of the world I have to add a PCI-E NIC though.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I do apologize that you are having issues with the onboard NIC of the motherboard. We have released a driver update that addresses this issue, if you have not already installed it, I have provided the link for download below.
If you still continue to have issues, please let me know and I will be happy to assist you. Please contact me through email, including your reference number within the subject line, and we can discuss this case further. Thank you. Cs#N140718972

2 out of 5 eggsOK at best

Pros: Good if your a grandma that was just introduced to computers and likes to play solitaire......and refuses to learn email or internet!

Cons: As mentioned in other reviews the integrated network is FLAKY. You see reviews and provided it isnt every review, bite the bullet and take a chance to get a good one especially with a cheaper product. But I bought 2 of these and both have the same issue so as others have done, so Ive splashed out and bought 2 PCIe NICs at 15 bucks a piece.....

Other Thoughts: Yes, the network here is fine. When these boards have the network issue, other pcs are fine.
So I figure that at my very reasonable rate of $60/hr troubleshooting and technical fees, ASUS owe me about 150 bucks! Please send me a check in the mail. Im not interested in your text book monkey replies I see all over this site. Good thing this hardware is now OUT of STOCK. Maybe Newegg took a hint.......

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGood MOBO

Pros: Small form factor, works great!
Great UEFI BIOS

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: It's all that you can expect from a M-ATX mobo. In my opinion, ASUS is the best. I popped in the components and it booted without an issue. My friend has been using it for 6 months with no issues.
