5 out of 5 eggsASUS A88X-PLUS FM2+ / FM2

Pros: My first AMD system build and it went really simple and fast. Did not know USB3 required a 20p internal connector so I had to wait for that to arrive. AMD Kaveri APU with 32GB ARIES Ram and a Hybrid Seagate drive and it is very smooth and quiet.

Cons: USB 3 must have internal 20 pin connector to get active port on the front panel. USB 3 speed is NOT 10 times faster than USB2 on this board.(Not even close). Absolutely must upgrade BIOS before installing OS.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I have had much worse build experiences that with this one. If the board holds up to some serious use over time, it could be another ASUS super workhorse board.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Everything works well. Solid construction, and I like that the SATA ports are facing up rather than to the side. Makes it way easier to connect cables. It arrived in 3 days even though I paid for 4-7 day shipping.

Cons: Firmware in the board doesn't come with a USB 3.0 controller, so those are useless until you install the firmware that comes with the install DVD.

Other Thoughts: Does not work well with the ZALMAN CNPS9700... the board does not have a 3-pin CPU fan connector, so any fan (including the ZALMAN CNPS9700) with a 3-pin connector will simply run at full speed. For the 9700, this meant 3600rpm, which is about as loud as a jet engine from the inside of a fuselage. This isn't the fault of the board, however, just a warning to anyone else.

1 out of 5 eggsKeeps Rebooting

Pros: Lots of USB, good price

Cons: Keeps rebooting with known good drives/OS

Other Thoughts: I will try new RAM, Using Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLS2K4G3D169DS3. but will try something else

Not sure what to try after that

5 out of 5 eggsGood Selection, strong motherboard

Pros: This is a strong, reliable motherboard for an APU build. I paired it with an AMD A10-7850K Kaveri and the combo works really well. It's easy to update the UEFI bios, and overclocking is easy and reliable. RAM was easy as well - I just dialed in 2133 for my Gskill ripjaws and everything was solid.

Cons: None, really. I usually choose Asrock for my builds but the choices are not that good for an FM2+ socket Mobo under $100.00. The Asus A88X-plus was great right there in the "sweet spot". There is even a $25.00 send away rebate from Asus.

Other Thoughts: My latest build was made much easier by my choice of Motherboard.

2 out of 5 eggsnot a good deal

Pros: Looks nice and many features.

Cons: Don't work at all or damaged.

Other Thoughts: This is the second time i tried an ASUS MB with the same problem. This time I bought one for my almost new CPU and MB didn't work at all, tested all the components and even buy new components trying to troubleshoot it w/o luck. RMA for replacement and arrived "damaged" in delivery.
I really tried to give them a second chance and no luck at all. I don't think i will give them a third one.
PS: i used a AMD Athlon X4 860K Quad-Core 3.7GHz Socket FM2+ 95W Desktop Processor (BLACK EDITION) .

3 out of 5 eggsThe board was OK, the service wasn't.

Pros: Installed easily
Included software makes updates, tweaks, and monitoring easy.
Good board for the price

Cons: The sound cuts out completely at low volume.
Dropped a memory channel after about 9 months.
Warranty service is a joke.

Other Thoughts: I was willing to put up with the problems I was having with the sound. When the memory channel went out I just swapped the DIMMs to the next channel and it still worked.

But when I called ASUS to find out about a warranty claim for the dropped memory channel, I sat in the queue for about 30 minutes only to have a rep tell me that they could send me an RMA to have the board sent in to be fixed. Turnaround was about two weeks.

I'll say that again: They wanted me to send in the motherboard I'm using and wait two weeks for it to be repaired. Like I can go without my computer for two weeks.

I asked the rep if there was anything else they could do because I couldn't go without the computer. He asked me to provide the serial number and I did. He said he'd need to put me on hold for about ten minutes and hung up on me.

I've heard good things about ASUS products but their customer service is almost as bad as Net10.

1 out of 5 eggsNever again.

Pros: Cons far outweigh any pro's

Cons: In my 15yrs of repairs and doing all my own builds, I have, by far, never had this much trouble with a motherboard. Constant video related crashes, especially when I add a better video card to use instead of the APU's card.. Crashes with stock APU video card, with add on by itself as well as in dual mode and enough so to make the board useless.

A simple email to ASUS requires 30 to 45 minutes of looking up specs to fill out their form just to ask a simple question. Guess that's one way to cut down on questions.

I should have known better than to give them another chance after they not only returned one of my last boards in the same condition I RMA'd it in, as in useless, they first tried to tell me there was NO warranty on a board with a 3 yr warranty...very dishonest people...just that should have told me all I needed to know.

Sound? Can't run 5 to 1 at all as there is an awful surging growl in the sound system, even with all devices disabled. The bios refused to allow the latest flash/update..it couldn't read it I guess. I would return it but, again, ASUS returned my last one unfixed and then asked me to return it again...guess they figure the customer will give up once they have to pay shipping a few times.

Beware, or better yet, go with Gigabyte.

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful board

Pros: Worked great right out of the box. I was skeptical about digital video ports like DVI/HDMI but has no issues. Did not perform any bios upgrade. Very nice bios interface.

System confg I built:

Windows 8.1
AMD A8 7600
G-Skill 1600 8 GB (2x4 GB)
Samsung 850 EDO 120GB SSD
WD 1TB HDD

Cons: None so far.
