5 out of 5 eggsWorks, what's the problem

Pros: Buy this board if you want to build a solid, basic, pc. Has both PS2 ports for older compatibility. Pair this board with either an A4-6300 (spreadsheets and word -even for mediapc) or A8 for more power. This also has onboard serial port(dongle sold separately). For me this is the upgrade build if you already have equipment you need to keep running

Cons: Everybody who has problems with this board, check your bios if you are running newer processors.
By the beard of Odin, do not email ASUS tech support! I have never received a helpful answer to an email support request. I call. I needed the serial pigtail/dongle...wanted a part number, what , where-to-buy. Email response was "yes, the serial port is built into the board" AH HA!

Other Thoughts: I just put 70 -SEVENTY- of these with TM-302 cases 4Gb ram, Windows 7PROx64 and SSD 60 and 120Gb drives (based on application) into a local business. Data is server based so I sold speed, not size. Out of the seventy, I had one board with a video issue. Seeing the several home-builders with issues, I had to comment. Follow static precautions and use quality parts - no problems.

1 out of 5 eggsaweful motherboard

Pros: None

Cons: Would not run either Xperia pro or win 8.1 x64

Xp would not install, blue screened

Win 8.1 would install but constantly froze up. Could not even get the chipset drivers to install without freezing. Windows update would freeze every time. Had to run a system repair every time just to get it to boot up.

Other Thoughts: It has been 8 years since I have owned any AMD CPUs. I will check back in another 8 years to see if things have improved (if they are around). I really was pulling for this to work. I had this board paired with a Richland 3.9GHz dual core black edition CPU. All the system had to do was run windows to serve a few files. So sad. :-(

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

Thank you for purchasing an ASUS product!

I think something else might be causing the blue screen errors to happen. When you have a chance, please send me your full components list, along with any troubleshooting steps tried, and we can look into this issue further. I am sure within a very short time we can figure out a solution to this case. 3672701.

Mark

5 out of 5 eggsBasic, does what it needs to do.

Pros: First off, I used a Kaveri A10 7850k with this board and overclocked it to about 4.5ghz stable. The board worked with Kaveri enough to install Windows and boot. UPDATE THE BIOS. If you want this board to be stable at all, just update all necessary drivers and bios updates.
This thing for me (other than the driver updates) was more or less plug-and-play.
Also as a side note, the board was surprisingly good-looking for as minimal as it was.
I'll definitely buy this board again in future builds.

Cons: The one con I noticed (and it might not even be a con) was that my system was NOT stable with windows 7. I hadn't tested windows 8, but the system was entirely stable with Windows 8.1. Also the included I/O plate was extremely cheap and, excuse my very technical term: a piece of c-r-a-p (Newegg wouldn't let me spell it out). Although, I can't really complain at it's price point.

(the Windows 7 instability could just be a compatibility issue with the new Kaveri APU's)

Other Thoughts: System specs:
Kaveri A10 7850k
G Skill 4gb 1866
WD Blue 500gb
Corsair H60
(this board)
Cooler Master N200
Logysis RGB strip
Corsair CX 430

I'm probably forgetting something....

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: Installed without issue in a Fractal Core 1000 micro atx case with a Corsair cx 430w psu and an AMD A10-7850K Kaveri processor. The processor fit into the board without any problems. The stock AMD heatsink fit without issue. All my peripherals connected to the ports on the board without issue. The system booted right up. All sensors worked properly. Windows 8.1 Professional 64 bit installed without issue. All drivers were able to be updated to the latest versions without issue, including the latest AMD Catalyst video driver. The system runs perfectly thus far.

Cons: None. Everything is exactly as advertised.

Other Thoughts: Updated to latest bios, 1302 at the time, before doing anything else. The system booted just fine with 2x2GB GSkill 1600 9-9-9-24 @ 1.5v (F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ). Overclocked the memory to 2133 11-13-12-32 @ 1.65v for a couple benchmark runs without issue. Shortly after I switched out both sticks of memory for 2x4GB Patriot 2133mhz 11-11-11-27 @ 1.5v (PVI38G213C1K). Again, the system booted up and ran without issues. The system was verified to be Prime 95 and HCI Memtest stable overnight.

One item of note is that before I was able to use the DVI output I had to first boot the system using the VGA output for connection to a monitor. I then had to go into the bios and enter the advanced settings menu. From there I had to change the northbridge settings to IGFX for video output. After saving and restarting I was able to plug in the DVI cable and unplug the VGA cable and maintain video output through the DVI port. I haven't had a issue since then.

1 out of 5 eggsIssues With Kaveri - Buyer Beware

Pros: Nothing

Cons: This motherboards has serious issues with AMD's A10-7850K processors.

The motherboard will refuse to boot into Windows or freeze inside of the OS when RAM is installed in both slot. RAM from Asus QVL list was used. The machine will work fine with one DIMM. When two are installed, freezes galore. I'm only using a max of 8GBs.

All types of RAM settings were used ranging from DDR-800 to DDR-2133. RAM from different manufacturers were used. BIOS was upgraded to the latest, latest AMD Catalyst drivers.

Essentially, this motherboard is the problem. Asus support was contact, but not much help.

Other Thoughts: Asus needs to either fix the issues with the motherboard or come clean and say it doesn't support FM2+. There is no amount of "user error" that can justify the issue. There is no escaping that.

If you're buying this with the intent of using this with a Kaveri CPU, please look at another mobo manufacturer. The Asus A88XM-A has the similar issues.

Buy this motherboard at your own risk.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I am sorry that you are having issues with the motherboard. If this case has not been resolved, please contact me through email. Within the email, please include the serial number of the motherboard. 3541309.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Easy to configure and install

Cons: The screw holes didnt line up with the case ones forcing me to get creative so the board didnt short on the case mounts.

It was an HP case though maybe we can blame HP.

Other Thoughts: First time using a UEFI board. It is a great board and was easy to for me to setup things. The system I setup on this board had a Raid 1 drive array. In fact the only problem I had during this part of the process was my CD/DVD drive was on the same set of ports as the raid array and windows install didnt like that. switching the CD/DVD drive over to the other ports and setting them to IDE fixed that quickly and everything else went without a hitch.

1 out of 5 eggsASUS no good

Pros: Can't really think of any

Cons: Random freezing and lockup with A10 7850K! Unusable!

Other Thoughts: Had a gut feeling that Asus sucks and it was proven right. It does support 7850K right out of the box without having to flash bios but this lunatic board would freeze every now and then rendering the system absolutely unusable.

All other components are quality ones like Corsair, Kingston, Thermaletake, etc. Spent days trying to get this junk work, nah.... A few google searches reviewed that other with similar Asus boards experience the same problem.

Bios update DID NOT help. Reinstall DID NOT help. Changing RAM sticks DID NOT help, nothing helped. Thing likes to die.

Asus, I WILL NEVER BUY another Asus, ye hear me? Unless, of course, it's FAR. :)

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

In most cases, freezing would not be caused by a motherboard. Have you confirmed that everything was configured correctly in the BIOS? Usually when a computer freezes, it is caused by an incorrect setup (user error) and/or faulty/incompatible computer components. Please make sure everything is compatible with this motherboard and is set up correctly. 4 out of 5 eggsFix for BSOD Problem

Pros: A sturdy board (like most Asus products) with a quirk that has affected several Asus boards is the past few years: they are shipping with bios problems.
Luckily, there is an easy work-around
The BSO problem persisted even after I updated the bios

Cons: The BSOD appeared even after I update the bios. I'm using Windows XP, which may be part of the problem. I was able to find a quick fix by Googling it. Turns out that if you set the settings to IDE instead of SATA, the board will stop crashing.

5 out of 5 eggsPleasantly Surprised

Pros: - It worked with no hassle
- Price
- 6 Sata 3 ports.
- Low temp

Cons: No 3 pin chassis fan plug (comes in handy to have at least one 3 pin and 1 4 pin chassis fan port)

Other Thoughts: I bought this to do a budget desktop build for a client and couldn't be happier. I plugged it in and it worked out of the box. I only had to install the lan driver and chipset driver, the rest were picked up automatically in Win7. This is a great board if you don't need to play any resource heavy games.

4 out of 5 eggscramped

Pros: snapping in the cpu and heatsink was way easier than my last asus mobo. its working well, will post another review in 3 months

Cons: i really dont like where the battery is, which is just under my vid card. the placement of the system panel connectors is criminal. also if i want access to sata 4,5,6, slots i gotta pop out the vid card.

Other Thoughts: i dont have an apu, i have a great gpu(amd6970. hey its still great to me ;), and i re-built my system around it. so i got the 760k quad 3.8 cpu, this board, and 8 gigs of gskill ram. all that stuff fits like a dream, snaps together better than lego's. the saphire 6970 is a big brick, and unfortunately it pretty much blocks access to the second set of sata slots. if you plan ahead and know, its not that big of a deal.and they do face 'off' instead of 'up'. my problem comes with attaching the power button, reset switch. you gotta crank under the card to connect the 2 pinners, which will leave (minor) stress on the wires. once again plan ahead if you have a brick.
this board is small, make sure you have a screw header for the southeast corner, all sata ports connect there, most of the physical stress to the board will be here.
