CPU performance boost

Unleash your computer's performance with a simple two-phase onboard switch or the ASUS AI Suite 3 utility. It works with the TPU chip to offer precise voltage control and advanced monitoring , enabling great freedom to adjust CPU frequencies and ratios for optimized performance in all situations.

VRM, or voltage regulator modules, are considered among the most essential motherboard design components. They supply the voltage demanded by the CPU, and a good VRM must intelligently detect actual CPU power draw to provide precise power accordingly.

Dual Intelligent Processors 2

Dual Intelligent Processors 2 with DIGI+ VRM

The world's first Dual Intelligent Processors from ASUS pioneered the use of two onboard chips - EPU (Energy Processing Unit) and TPU (TurboV Processing Unit). The new generation of Dual Intelligent Processors 2 with DIGI+ VRM provides precise Vcore PWM, integrated graphics voltages and frequency module adjustments with minimal power loss through BIOS tuning and an exclusive user interface to increase the board's overclocking range while performance reaches its full potential. ASUS DIGI+ VRM digital power design empowers users with superior flexibility and perfect precision to ensure optimized performance, extreme system stability and greater power efficiency.

5 out of 5 eggsPleasantly surprised

Pros: - BIOS came already updated for Devil's Canyon CPU's (see below).
- No bent pins
- Worked SOOB.

Cons: - RAM slots are a little close to the mount, especially when using an aftermarket cooler. I slapped a 510 Evo in this and was glad I had the foresight to put the memory in before I attached the fan.
- Can't make a proper jambalaya.
- The NFC Express... ehrm... thing isn't well-supported, especially outside of Windows.

Other Thoughts: I bought this as a combo deal with an Intel i5 4690K Devil's Canyon. After I went for that deal, I quickly realized that this was a Z87 board, not a Z97, and started to worry. What if I brick it while flashing? What am I losing by not having a more up-to-date motherboard? Turns out my worries were completely unfounded. The BIOS recognized the CPU immediately.

I still wish the BIOS would recognize a Logitech wireless keyboard...

2 out of 5 eggsSomewhere between Meh and junk.

Pros: It works just fine, but it is far from special in any way.
Cheap.I got this board basically for free as a combo with a 4790k.

Cons: Gets super hot.
Does not overclock well at all.
Horrible yellowish baby poop color.
NFC reader that came with it is completely and utterly useless. It works, sometimes, and when it does it takes several tries to get it to read. It is slower than using a password, so i pretty much just dumped it.
iOS app is total garbage.

Other Thoughts: If I didn't get this board for basically nothing I would never buy it or recommend it.

4 out of 5 eggsNFCless would have been okay too

Pros: Looks really nice,

Runs super cool because of quality vrm,

SLI/Crossfire support,

Amazing price,

The bios is super easy to use,

I saw this board featured on Linus tech tips and am super proud of owning it just for that reason

Cons: *the nfc adapter is worthless. Not because it doesn't work, it does, but the software with it is absolutely unusable. Not a single function works. They connect, but can't interact. At least it adds 2 USB 3.0 ports to my IO that i can easily reach.

*there are some capicitors in weird places around the CPU socket that may inhibit your ability to mount certain coolers, i bought a zalman cps9900max-b and couldn't use it because i just couldn't fit the plate on for the screws as stuff was in the way. I knew it was compatible, and could even see the holes line up, but there was nothing i could do because of those components in the way.

Other Thoughts: If its still on sale, buy this thing right away. you won't regret it.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The Q-connector makes connecting the buttons and LEDs a lot easier.

BIOS setup allows you to use the mouse as well as the keyboard.

Plenty of SATA connectors.

Cons: More rear-panel USB ports would have been nice, but there are plenty of connectors if your case can use them.

The board is a little on the small side, and some of the connectors may be a little hard to reach if you put your cards in first, especially something like a huge video card.

Other Thoughts: I bought my first ASUS board six years ago, and that's all I buy now.

1 out of 5 eggsNot what I expected from Asus

Pros: Cheap, Intel chipset

Cons: Strange incompatibility with Haswell processors preventing a system reboot. Restarting can only be accomplished with a manual power off\power on operation. If you are running Windows, this is a major issue. Updating to latest BIOS does not fix the problem. I have been building PCs for 20+ years and never encountered anything like this. Furthermore, there are many people having the same issue with this board. Do your homework before buying this MB.

Other Thoughts: This MB/CPU was sold by Newegg as a bundle deal.

5 out of 5 eggsSatisfied

Pros: I've used two of these boards now and had no issues with either one, plugged in a 4790k and it came right up, didn't have to update BIOS or anything. I'm guessing most of the earlier BIOS issues that made people unhappy have been resolved. Hard to beat a Z87 board with SLI / overclocking support for sixty bones.

Cons: Hard to match yellow with anything else... The NFC stuff seems pretty gimmicky, the software for it is not intuitive at all.

3 out of 5 eggsDual port?

Pros: Stable M/B, fast for performance and loads..... even with an Intel i5 - 4590 3.3Ghz and 6Mb cache.
Is being used for Server purposes.

Cons: Video has been an issue from the start, will not support dual screens with the M/B. No matter the setup. One or the other screen will be down.

Other Thoughts: The video seems to be an issue as I have talked to friends with the same MB.
This MB is to be a server for MS 2012 Server V2 and SketchUp 2015 Pro. None is supported as of today.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect build

Pros: Absolutely no issues. It seems with almost every build I've done, I've had to work around at least one random issue. Not so with this board. I would highly recommend it, especially if you can get the rebate. I appreciated the removable 'adapter' for the front panel connectors. Made that part so much easier. The manual was easy to understand.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've had successful builds using Gigabyte and ECS, but this ASUS board had many great features for the price, with none of the technical hiccups you sometimes run into. Just a great experience all around.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good!

Pros: Great price for the previous year's tech! I purchased an i7-4790k and wanted a board that could overclock the CPU. After some research, I found the z87 chipset would not give me any benefit over the newer z97/99. The retail price was great, a rebate made it a no-brainer, and a case bundle made it a steal. I was a little hesitant with mixed reviews, but considering the warranty I figured it was a safe chance to take.

I really like the bundled software suite.

I'll update if anything fails, but so far it's running perfectly. Paired with i7-4790k, 16GB 1600 MHz Corsair DDR3, Sapphire R9 290 ref GPU.

Five stars is relative to price paid.

Cons: As mentioned elsewhere, the circuit board seems a bit thin. I found myself reaching my fingers behind it to plug in some of the connectors (most notably the USB3).

Older tech; you can definitely get a better motherboard, but you'd have to be willing to spend twice as much.

Other Thoughts: This would not have been my selection were my budget less limited, but I think I maximized bang:buck with the rebate and bundle pricing.
