What power supply do I need to use for this motherboard since it does not have standard atx hookup?  Is it just a sata power hookup?  My case will take a atx or mini atx.

Accepted Answer

It is powered by an external power brick, like a laptop, which plugs into the port just above the top two USB ports.  Alternately, it can be powered by a 2-pin internal connector with an adaptor or special power supply.  I've not found this adaptor.  I suggest downloading the manual from ASUS and reviewing it if you have any more questions.

ASUS Q87T/CSM Thin Mini-ITX Motherboard

ASUS has recently released its first thin mini-itx form factor motherboard with the Intel Q87 chipset.

The Q87T is a promising motherboard utilizing the Intel Q87 chipset. The board is about 40% thinner than regular mini-itx boards, making it a good choice for compact, all in one (AIO) slim mini-itx desktop PC’s,

The motherboard has all the features of a standard mini-itx motherboard. The Q87 chipset supports most 4th generation Intel CPUs like Core i3/i5/i7, Celeron, and Pentium with a maximum TDP of 65W using a standard thin mini-itx Intel heat sink. For other processor that has a TDP of 84W, ASUS recommends using a standard socket 1155 or 1150 heatsink.

Asus provides two mini PCIe slots, one half-length and the other full-length with mSATA support. Additionally, using two SO-DIMM slots instead of the larger DIMM slots for memory has allowed the manufacturer to reposition the CPU socket to make space for other features.

Two other key features on this board is that it supports the new 4K Ultra HD, which compared to the standard 1080P HD graphics, has four times the amount of pixels at 4096 x 2160, utilizing either the HDMI or Display port provided onboard. The second key feature is that ASUS did away with the 24-pin ATX power plug that you would see on most standard boards, whereas the Q87 has an onboard built-in DC board, allowing users to utilize an external AC adapter instead of the bunch of cables flopping from the 24-pin ATX plug.

ASUS recommends using this board for all-in-one and ultra slim systems with thin power supplies and thin video outputs. However, we think it will be a perfect choice for DIY hobbyist and system integrators alike. And given the “Corporate Stable Model” .

How many SATA disks can the board power (number of connectors on the cable/wattage?)

I have had at least 4 drives connected. One was in the 
Internal slot and three were connected to the SATA ports and to the power connections. Oh, and a CD-ROM drive on the external USB at the same time.
All showed up and worked in the bios.

Question 4

Using the built-in hdmi port is it possible to get hd audio (dts-hd, dolby truehd/atmos) to use this as an htpc board?

Not an answer but a suggestion.  This a great little board and I use it for work as well as entertainment.  The built in sound card provides excellent audio through the phono jack, which I pipe into an amp.

What is the recomended external power supply for this board ?

For a similar thin mini-ITX mobo (Intel DQ77KB) I used a HP 5189-2784 AC ADAPTER. It puts out 19V, 9.5 A, 180 Watts. It's worked fine for me ever since I built my system  almost 2 years ago. They're readily available if you search for that HP model number.

2 hard disks (ssd 256  & 2tb ) or graphics card 4 GB SUPPORTED OR NOT ?

There are a number of ways to use multiple drives including Msata and  std Sata SSD. The picture clearly show 4 std SATA ports. You may use one Device for Msata either Wifi or a Drive. The more things you put on this board the hotter it will get. I would not recommend a discrete Video card but you will limited to one HDMI and one display port with on processor video, which is a problem for two inputs to a TV, TV's do not have display port except at high end. If you are using two OS;s like Mac and PC, you can deliver a  Mac video at  2K or 4K unless using a DP.
I would not recommend  a X1 PCIE slot for a video card.
