5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Board

Pros: Excellent out of the box stability with shipping BIOS. I had ZERO issues. I've been running everything on this system for 6 months, no problems at all.

Cons: The only bad thing is the Asus bloatware. Do not install it! It provides little and it's buggy. I had some minor annoyances that vanished after removing ALL of the Asus crapware. There are much better free utilities on the web for performing the same.

Other Thoughts: Most of the bad reviews are given by dolts. I've been building computers for 25 years and the comments I've read by most of the negative nancy's are due to their incompetence.

This is a solid motherboard if you use the right hardware with it. Most importantly, buy a good power supply.

1 out of 5 eggsASUS Z97 -PRO Motherboard

Pros: Worked well for a Month

Cons: Have a problem with a Z97 pro MB which worked for over a month and then died, when I sent it back to ASUS for repairs they claim that the CPU pins was the issue and that placed it out of warranty. And they wanted me to pay more to repair it than the initial purchase price, a bunch of dishonorable thieves, I have purchase a number of ASUS product in the past but NEVER again.

1 out of 5 eggsHang on device scan

Pros: Good, if it didn't hang on device scan, Windows Update, or going into BIOS.

Cons: Hate writing bad reviews, but costs for 2 RMA...enough.
Did clean installed of Win8.1, installed network driver from Asus site then installed Firefox to browse web sites. Decided to bring up Device Manager and scan for new devices, and hangs. Had to hit physical power button. Booted Win8.1 back up and do Windows Update and hang. Had to hit physical power button. Went into BIOS and hang. Had to hit power button again.

Decided to go backrev Windows....so installed clean Win7pro then network driver, works fine...can surf websites. Decide to do Device Manager scan for device and hang.

4 out of 5 eggsAsus Z97 Pro

Pros: Received the board on Wednesday. Packaging was good. There are a lot of features on this board, but the main reason I chose it is because of its expansion capability and benchmarks. Based on other reviews I think I have a more recent board. BIOS was still outdated, but the CPU volts were lower and Turbo Boost was disabled by default leaving my CPU at 4 ghz all the time. I haven't had a chance to play with the Sata Express or M2 socket, due to lack of available products I like. There are lots of features available on this board, as well as a great deal of opportunity for expansion if that interests you. Also, my 4790k Devil's Canyon CPU worked out of the box with this board. Some boards have required a BIOS flash before working with this CPU. I have seen complaints about the onboard sound, which I can't comment on since I'm using a dedicated sound card. The UEFI BIOS is full of tweaking opportunity. Definitely read your manual thoroughly if you want to get the most out of this board. Overall this board has been very stable for me. I will update if I run into any problems, but so far so good.

Cons: XMP when enabled under clocked my RAM to 1333 instead of the 1600 spec. This was true even after a BIOS update. Not a big enough issue to deduct an egg, since I was already in there tweaking. Nevertheless it is a point worth mentioning for those considering buying this board. What is worth deducting an egg though is the lack of another USB expansion dongle for those that have more USB devices than this board has built onto it. Other less expensive boards give you these, so why can't Asus??

1 out of 5 eggsBeware!

Pros: I am required to write something here so... it turns on. Yay.

Cons: Microphone input for onboard sound is defective. Mic is inaudible at 100% volume and 30db mic boost.

Upon further research, this is a widespread issue across high-end ASUS motherboards going back at least a year.

I probably won't waste money trying to RMA with the whole bent-pin fiasco with Newegg and ASUS.

Other Thoughts: I've been avoiding ASUS for a long time, but figured they might be OK now since so many people recommend them. Does not appear to be the case.

I was also surprised to hear that Newegg is starting to cut corners on their previously exceptional RMA service. I definitely won't be buying anything important here anymore.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for about a month

Pros: This was a nice motherboard and worked well for a little over 30 days. I like the UEFI interface and everything else about this board.

Cons: After about a month I came into my room and was met with the familiar smell of burning electronic components. I immediately started checking temperatures. CPU was running cool in the mid 20s. (4790k) Gpu was running in the low 30s. (EVGA GTX 770) I shut it down and when I came back it wouldn't POST only a few LEDs and my CPU fans were running. I tried a known working power supply. Pulled the GPU. Reset the BIOS, and tried pulling some RAM. Motherboard is toast.

I tried using ASUS's online RMA and Create a Case, and their web page is broken. "The page at https://cms-as.asus.com says: Connection Failed." I tried this more than 5 different times on different occasions. So I decided I would call them. I sat on the phone waiting for 35 minutes before I decided to just leave a message and wait for them to get back with me. I haven't heard a thing back from them several days later. Worst customer support I have ever experienced.

I have been buying Asus products for over 10 years. I have never had any issues with anything from them. I will never buy another ASUS product again if this doesn't get taken care of in an acceptable amount of time.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend looking else where for a z97. I should have done the same and listened to some of the other reviews, but I went out on a limb because ASUS had been so good in the past.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Jesse,

I am sorry to hear about the issues you experienced. I will provide the the links to our main service site as well as to create a case or RMA below. 4 out of 5 eggsAsus quality at a good price

Pros: Sata express
Lots of sata ports
SOLID heatsinks
AMAZING bios
Good color scheme
Great hardware for the price

Cons: Not enough USB ports
Should be blacked out instead of gold
Not-so-good sound quality
Lame looking SLI bridge (come on guys)

Other Thoughts: I chose this motherboard based on other asus boards ive owned in the past. I needed a board to go with a black and blue color scheme, and this was the closest offering i could find that would match. This board has a great BIOS and amazing overclocking headroom. The heatsinks are heavy and do a great job. The fan headers are PWM and there are plenty of them in good locations. There is a USB 3.0 hub connector on the bottom of the motherboard so you dont have to use the stupid side connector like most other boards.

The one major complaint i have is the so-called "crystal sound" is not very good. It sounds like every other average motherboard integrated audio chip. If you are seriously considering a motherboard in this range for these new onboard sound offerings, you'd be better off buying a board without sound in mind and going with a separate dedicated sound solution.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I do apologize that you did not have a wonderful experience with your motherboard's audio. 2 out of 5 eggsStability Issues

Pros: Inexpensive for the funcitonality

Cons: Not stable at all

Other Thoughts: To those having stability issues:
1. Disable the sound card in the bios. This helped with a lot of my issues (buy a usb sound card or something =/ , or new mobo....)
2. Turn off EVERYTHING in the bios that claims to lower power consumption or make power consumption more effecient. I would make a list of all the things i disabled but it would be rather long...

After doing the above my setup was much more stable, although it ran at a slightly higher temperature.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

2 out of 5 eggsUnstable MOBO

Pros: Somewhat cheap board for a lot of functionality

Cons: The board definitely has some stability issue. I have replaced every part besides the motherboard and my computer resets at random times.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this board

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I am sorry that you are having issues with your system. Did you receive any errors in the system logs? Are there any thermal issues such as sufficient airflow as well as sufficient power? At your earliest convenience, please contact me through email, including your reference number within the subject line, and we can discuss this case further.
