1 out of 5 eggsBoard went bad after 2 months

Pros: Fast shipping from newegg

Cons: I purchased 5 of these boards. One of the boards went bad after 2 months of use. If this were the only issue I would not be writing a bad review. 1 out of 5 boards is a 20% failure rate which is terrible, but it happens. My complaint lies with ASUS. They have refused to repair the board under warranty - giving some nonsense about how it was scratched. Don't take my word for it. Check out "CID--scratched trace - not repairable" on google and see what problems other people have had with the ASUS warranty department.

Other Thoughts: Stay away from ASUS. High failure rates and absolutely horrendous support.

2 out of 5 eggsMy Motherboard doesn't POST after a cold boot

Pros: This board has many great features and look slick. Optimization is efficient and easy. The UEFI bios and provided software is well rounded and polished.

Cons: My board doesn't boot immediately after a cold start. CPU fans and GPU fans start running but not the other fans... Q code display 00... which is not a code in the manual... after several reboot, the system finally boots...

I browsed several forums to find a solution to my issue but it seems that several people have the same issue and no fix

I need 3 minutes just to boot to windows every single day. Once the computer boot it works like a charm though... only until next morning... Turning off my brand new computer makes me anxious every day. I might just keep it running all day from now on to avoid this issue.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid board

Pros: Easy installation, great features

Cons: SATA bandwidth seems low

Other Thoughts: I'm a techie, but I'm not much of a tweaker when it comes to my computers. I like to build my own, but I'm not an overclocker or tinkerer. So I tend to keep everything at stock speeds. In this capacity, this board installed without issues and has run flawlessly so far. And I've barely scratched the surface of its available features (and probably never will).

My only knock is that the read and write speeds from the SATA port to my SSD is considerably slower than my Gigabyte Z97 series board. This Asus tops out just over 300 mbps each way, while my Gigabyte board easily tops 500 mbps. This could be something that I haven't configured correctly, but like I mentioned, I don't tend to tweak these things (other than the profile of my SSD via Disk Magician, set to 'performance'). Out of the box, this board has considerably slower read/write speeds. If I find the problem and can easily correct it, I'll happily add that 5th egg to my rating because otherwise this has been a terrific board.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS Z97 PRO

Pros: The ASUS Z97 Pro- you have to love this motherboard. The 5 way optimization is super. The power savings on this board has already saved me $9.00 on my electric bill and it was only running for 3 weeks of a 30 day period. This is my 3rd ASUS motherboard. And you have really like their boards. The performances outstanding, it blows away all other motherboard mfg. Very easy to set up and run. Like the new bios setup, I had to actually read the manual to set this up. Everything has changed in the past 10 years from my old motherboard. Yes you want a super computer go with ASUS.

Cons: No cons on ASUS Z97 Pro

3 out of 5 eggsASUS 1150 Z97-pro

Pros: I have used ASUS exclusively for more than 20 years. This is only second board type that has caused issues. long life and reliability keep me coming back.

Cons: This board had a problem on another client machine and they ended buying a different manufacturer. My board continues to give me a power surge error and loses boot drive choice. Is not a power supply issue. Keep losing data and getting Windows errors from bios errors. Did updates and still issues.

Other Thoughts: Debating on RMA board and getting different type.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsAn excellent LGA1150 Z-97 motherboard!

Pros: The Asus Z-97 Pro is an excellent LGA1150 Z-97 motherboard! Rock solid stability, with a good feature set and BIOS options for tweaking and overclocking. I've had this motherboard for almost 9 months, and felt that this was the best value for those that wanted to step up to Haswell-R if coming from pre-Sandy Bridge/Bulldozer hardware.

Cons: None, other than perhaps M2.SATA which doesn't interest me. I would have preferred more SATA-III ports or dual Intel LAN NICs.

Other Thoughts: System specs:

- Asus Z-97 Pro
- Intel i7-4790K @4.8 GHz
- 32 GB Crucial DDR3-1600 1.35v 8-8-8-24
- 2x Asus R9-270x 4 GB Crossfire
- Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
- 2x Crucial MX200 250GB
- Crucial MX100 512GB
- 2x WD Raptors 250GB
- Corsair Carbide Air 540 (black)
- Corsair HX750 power supply

2 out of 5 eggsPoor quality control and inadequate customer service

Pros: Worked when I got it
Has a variety of ways to connect hard drives
Arch Linux supported

Cons: Poor quality control with USB 3 ports

Other Thoughts: I bought this back in January. Everything seemed to work good for about a month. My keyboard is plugged into one of the USB 3 ports on the back. One day, my computer told me there was no keyboard plugged in. After changing to another port it recognized the keyboard. Really, less than 2 months for a plug that just sits there and two USB 3 ports are dead? No overclocking or overheating. After reading the forms that came with the RMA instructions, I came across something that disturbs me. Now, once I get my old board sent off and another one is sent to me, I will have paid FULL price for a refurb. That's right, they won't send me a new board to replace the poor quality control new board that I paid full price for, they will be sending me one that has already been used by someone else and known to have caused a problem at some point in the past. They could at the very least for my inconvenience give me a brand new board.

I contacted CS. They require you to mail in a form once they get an RMA emailed to you (not the same day). The form says it requires a real signature, not a digital copy, so I have to rely on the slow mail system. Then, you can either send in your MB while your computer sits useless, or you can mail them your CC#. Why can't this be done over the phone to speed up the process? Today, nearly two weeks since I mailed them these two pieces of paper, I get an email from ASUS telling me that "Please review the forms you have submitted as it appears one signature on the advance replacement page was cutoff upon faxing and the terms and condition page is also missing a required signature." Um, I didn't fax it, I mailed it. And I checked the page three times before I mailed it so I don't know what signature I missed. Besides, I can't review my forms as they are in your hands now.

The customer support website is useless. It won't take my RMA and Serial number for me to check on the status of my problem.

The worst part of this ordeal is that I will have to unplug everything and pull everything off my board to put in a new one and then put it all together again because they couldn't take the time to make sure the first board I bought from them was built correctly.

I bought a USB hub on the same computer build that didn't work correctly when I got it. I contacted support and they just sent me a new one, sent out the same day, and told me just to throw the other one away. Now that is good CS.

Good luck getting my business again Asus
