5 out of 5 eggsGreat mother board

Pros: Very easy to use for OC. I have the i7-4770K paired with this board and after a few minutes it is up to 4.3GHz.

I am using this MOB for transcoding video (which uses the full system resources). I have tested this setup transcoding videos for 6+hrs straight and not one issue thus far. So far very pleased.

3 out of 5 eggsASUS Pro-Pain

Pros: This is a follow-up from my previous review.
I had No idea that this motherboard had so many picky nuances. Sure it is a nice MoBo and has many Excellent Features. The 5 Way Optimization is great and the BIOS with Mouse support and Graphics is just superb. The colors of Gold and Black look Great.
There are many qualities that make this motherboard a MoBo you would like to own, but this is where it ends. Now you must read the Cons to find out what you are Really in for when trying to do some tweaking or other supposedly featured functions they point out on this Motherboard. Should have just been more prudent and read many more Forums and Reviews before buying this Black and Gold Pretty Brick.

Cons: What a load -
When you want to RAID the book specifies the Control 'I' function after setting the proper switches in the BIOS to RAID will appear.
Surprise Surprise - that function Does Not Appear - at least Not on this MoBo. Then you cannot load the software (Windows 7 Pro 64 bit) in RAID 1 mirror mode. It wants you to pick out the drivers from a Flash Drive or the CD but you can't do it.
Re-Booting does not help - Slowing down the Boot to 5 or more seconds thinking you had it pass you by is not any help either.
I wanted this board because of the extra SATA ports, but Guess what - Those are ASmedia driven ports and Not Intel Controller driven. The ASmedia are just data ports so don't even think about using them for an Optical Drive. The Boot area that should show all the drives does not do it all the time - sometimes yes sometimes no - Sure you can find them in the PCH Storage Configuration and also under the Boot Menu, but not on the Main Window under Boot Selection - Not all of the drives show up ALL the time - sometimes Yes and Sometimes No.
Then it will just switch the boot drive to another drive for no reason when you do any changes in the Bios.
I bought 5 ASUS Z97-A boards and have not had any of these troubles. I did not try and RAID any drives for the customers i assembled them for though. So i don't know if this is a problem that is related to the Whole Family of ASUS Z97 boards.
I have tried many different variations of settings to get this board to do what it is supposed to do, but it just acts like it has a mind of it's own.
I have read many Forums and Posts and their are many people having issues with the RAID - Ctrl-i not appearing and then out of the blue after 10 tries it just magically will appear.
So i have just dropped the RAIDing of Drives in Mirror Mode as i also found out that if one drive crashes you cannot just RAID a new drive to the existing one copying all the information onto it.
I am running a PC-DL with 6 Drives on it 2 SATAS in RAID 1 mode and did have one drive crash and just bought a new drive and after pressing Ctrl-i it asked for a Source Drive and Target Drive in RAID 1 (Security Mode) and it just copied the information to the New Drive and was back on line with RAID 1 was back in Operational Mode with Zero issues.
As far as using the ASmedia SATA ports i just did not even attempt using those at all again. They seem flaky at best being supported by a Third Party from all i have read they are also slower than Intel SATA ports.
So good luck with your MoBo - AND - No - Updating the Bios is not the answer either because i tried that also. It is just the way ASUS has configured the Ports with Intel or Intel forcing ASUS and others to do this weird setup. I have been at this for 3 days trying everything i know and having others help that built many many systems over the years and they are just as freaked out by the way this controller setup is done as me.

Other Thoughts: I have been a Faithful ASUS Motherboard supporter and user sense 1989 when i built my first 286 and all of the predecessors MoBo's performed Unmatched in stability and Functionality, but now i have my doubts with ASUS being like they used to be - Unmatched.
Even the SATA ports are so hard to get to being turned 90 degrees on the motherboard in almost every PC case it is just really some serious engineering blunders. It really is a challenge to get the cables (latching types) not to come loose. They wiggle and seem weak - or frail - just not the Quality i am used to seeing from ASUS.
Oh well i bought this Bad-Lad and will use it as is. It does work in just a Standard Mode no RAID and does over-clock well and stable, but it has some real quarks that need to be addressed and i doubt that a New Improved Bios Update is going to fix all this - this mess.

4 out of 5 eggsMotherboard for everyone

Pros: Fast setup. Easy to config. Easy to setup. Config easy wizard safety settings for limits.
Fan configs.
Overclocking

Cons: If your missing anything don't install it, New egg will won't a return even for simply Sata cables or anything else missing.
Loose motherboard hook ups, for front panel power, LED, reset... Very loose. (Q-Connector kit) I would only use to setup the cables then unplug and plug directly into motherboard.

Other Thoughts: This is a switchable and auto overclocker.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Pleased

Pros: In terms of features vs price, this board fit the bill perfectly for what I wanted. Having SATA Express and M.2 on the same board is fantastic, I want my system to be as future proof as possible, and if one of the emerging standards ends up being more popular in the end, I'll be set either way.

BIOS is full of features, easy on the eyes, good OC capabilities. Spent a lot of time here tweaking OC settings.

An unexpected benefit to this board was the heatsink design - the flat design on top of the heatsinks just barely allowed clearance when installing an H100i in my Fractal R4 case. They're only about as tall as the top of the RAM levers, which are of standard height. Any taller, or rounded tops, and it wouldn't have fit!

Otherwise, The board has no lack of other connections such as SATA, USB 3.0, expansion slots, etc. Z97 chipset is also a big plus, support for next gen CPUs is a good thing, though with a 4790k in my system I seriously doubt I'll upgrade until I put together a whole new build.

Cons: No real complaints to speak of here. The back panel could have squeezed in a couple more USB 3.0 ports, but what's supplied is already plenty.

Other Thoughts: I'm the type that prefers to build one quality system to last for a few years instead of updating often, and this board fit the bill perfectly. Having both emerging storage standards, plenty of features, quality build, was everything I was looking for.

Dropped a i7 4790k with H100i and on this board was able to achieve a nice stable overclock of 4.7ghz on 1.290v. I'm sure I could have pushed the CPU a bit more, but like I said I want my build to last, and this CPU @ 4.7 ghz isn't going to struggle with anything for a long time.

5 out of 5 eggsA Beauty of a Board

Pros: This is the MoBo i wanted for my workstation. I have bought 4 of the ASUS Z97-A boards and those perform just Super. With a i7-4790 Haswell on the other boards i saw no need to get the i7-4790K as this CPU can be overclocked with the proper RAM even if not like the 'K' series. This motherboard has all the features i was looking for and the 6 SATA 6.GB/s ports is one of the more determining factors as i will RAID 2 WD 1TB Red drives and have another SATA for backing up to. The board is esthetically pleasing to the eye and has the functions most would want with many options for Video cards and has excellent RAM Support from 1600 to 3200 - i chose the 2400 because of the timing and stability of the Kingston HyperX Genesis series. 16 gig is just fine for my purposes and the board is perfectly suitable for this RAM.
The BIOS is so easy to adjust different areas i just love the ASUS style and functions it has in place.
Can't beat a Great Board unless you get the Higher End ASUS Z97-WS which is a Monster with the 'K' Series CPU

Cons: None wish i had gotten it sooner

Other Thoughts: Did not come with Reflective Sunglasses and a Soda

4 out of 5 eggsOne Driver To Rule Them All; One Driver To Bind Them...

Pros: First Intel build after 13 years of AMD loyalty; another great piece of Asus engineering; has my 4790K running smoothy; recognized the two sticks of G.Skill Trident PC2400 ram; tons of OC options that I haven't even scratched yet. AI 3 monitoring/OC suite is fabulous.

Cons: Intel SATA driver. Out of the six SATA ports, two of them are 6 GB AsusMedia ports (Marvell? Don't know...), the other 4 are Intel 6 GB SATA ports. Included CD drivers DID NOT install a proper Intel SATA driver... Set up my 500GB Samsung Evo boot drive over the AsusMedia lines, no problem, but it tested out horribly... slow... and the Intel ports wouldn't recognize the SSD properly (Win 8.1 64-bit). Had to download an updated driver from Asus support & MANUALLY install the correct SATA driver to solve the issue. All fine and well in the end, but seems a bit primitive for 2014/ Win 8.1 era....

Other Thoughts: Have to write the next review of how I got the Corsair H50 liquid cooler to fit the mobo... worth the effort, I haven't seen a temp over 36 deg. C yet...
