1 out of 5 eggsGot Unlucky

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: First off I'd just like to say that Newegg refunded me for my defective motherboard which I was quite happy about. I decided to buy a MSI Gaming 7 which had been working beautifully so far.

Cons: The felt extremely flimsy and seemed to be quite cheaply made, which I didn't expect because ASUS usually makes really good products.

The board also game defective, it would not post no matter what I tried always giving me a MEMOK error. I tried numerous different compatible memories and it didn't work. I also checked all other possibilities and still nothing.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Danny,

I am sorry that you received a defective motherboard, and appreciate the time you put on reviewing our products. It looks like you already got your issue taken care of. However, if you have any questions or concerns, you can contact me at cl-justin@asus.com and use case number: N150756038 and I will do my best to assist you.

Thanks for choosing ASUS

1 out of 5 eggsJUNK

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: None

Cons: Boot using integrated graphic. But very flaky. Then i install my graphic card and the board would not boot. I installed two graphic card and the board would not boot. These graphic cards work fine with another motherboard. I ended up buying a MSI board and had no problem setting up. This motherboard is JUNK.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Board

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: it looked nice

Cons: it did not work for ****.
5 calls to ASUS & no go on the mobo they either couldn't' &/or wouldn't' be bothered with solving the problem,........

i called in, told them the problem (a ACPI error, could not boot to windows or even RUN WINDOWS from the disk to do a clean reformat)

so rather than admit it was a problem with the board they just passed me off to Microsoft who did more than ASUS did even though it was a bios problem.

the next 3 calls to ASUS were just as good, though in with their own personal special blends of bull.

finally on call 5 i got some one who actually decided to do something for their paycheck and after 1.5 or 2 hrs going over this n that and the next thing they told me,.... duh we don't know, "just send it back as a bad board".

Other Thoughts: after 3 ROG laptops,... & a prev mobo from ASUS i guess they decided their company has enough money and don't need any more & Psed away any and all future business with this bull run around i got.

if you like being aggravated, passed off, ignored, and call centers with people you cant understand & thus cant get help from, then this is the board for you.

otherwise look into something else.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat UI

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This motherboard has a great number of options on it. Not to mention it's BIOS is phenomenal. If you are looking to build a high class computer get this.

Cons: CHECK THE MANUAL! don't buy RAM until you know it's compatible (PCPartPicker misses this). My 2 4GB sticks of RipJaw were not compatible. Not the motherboards fault.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus Z97-A

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: 6 fan pins, looks really clean, plenty of bios options, SLI and Crossfire, sturdy, 90 degree sata connectors, pins seem to be positioned in good spots for fans, usbs, etc. Loads of ram options.

Cons: Ram slot finicky. Sort of. See other thoughts.

For some reason, I'm getting higher firemark scored with my 750ti on my previous micro h81m-p33 than with this full size z97. Weird. Probably user error though.

1 out of 5 eggsSupport poor

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Motherboard is a decent basic board. Has all the basic options a builder neds.

Cons: Asus support is really bad. Bought memory off their "Vendor Approved List". Started out with 2-4 Gig modules. Tried expanding to 4-4 Gig modules of the same part number. PC will no longer boot. Returned motherboard to ASUS. They sent me back the same board with no changes done or even notes about testing.

Other Thoughts: If you buy one, assume no actual warranty. Returning it to ASUS does no good. Save yourself a month of worthless emails and shipping costs returning the part. Just buy a new one of another brand.

4 out of 5 eggsFastest build ever

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Quick build. Took no more than 30 minutes to move parts, and replace the bother board. Installation and plugins were easy to handle.
BIOS started up fast, and has your standard UEFI interface for the new z79 chipset. I put two other iterations of this board in 2 other systems that are also running flawlessly.

Specs:
i7 4970k
16 GB of DDR 1600 Mixed set
MSI 980 GT Twin Frozr V series

Cons: Big board. Not really a con but, realize you will take up all the space in your full or midtower with this board. Hard drives and wires may need moved around.

Heatsinks around the northbridge seemed a bit flimsy, I like having something to grab onto, and while I am careful, the heatsinks on the northbridge wobbled slightly during install.

Screws and speaker. My case mfg did not include a build in speaker so I require an external speaker to get beep codes, which would be nice to see included with the motherboard, as well as extra screws and mounts for mounting the motherboard.

The mfg assumes you have the screws already and were it not for a previous system build that had spare screws, I would have had to have gone out and bought a separate set.

Other Thoughts: This is a great board for the sock 1150 CPUs and newer graphics cards. Nothing out of the ordinary on this board. Nothing spectacular either. I would put it in the medium-high range of boards but not the top in its class. Of course, its affordable and does what you need it to. Can't ask for much more than that. All around give it a 4/5 due to some annoyances in the cons.
