1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute hit or miss

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: When it worked it was fine.

Cons: When it doesn't, it seems you're absolutely out of luck regarding getting it fixed.

Other Thoughts: Been a regular consumer of ASUS hardware - parts, monitors, notebooks. Purchased late last year. Read the many positive reviews as well as the negative ones, but figured I wouldn't be an unlucky one. However, since installation, repeated various motherboard problems with faulty boot, display, and sensor issues that would come and go over three months. Finally, board absolutely failed after about four months. Repeated support calls over the view months were the most unhelpful things with accusations that my other parts were causing the problems despite explaining that I'd tested everything with working parts.
Finally, RMA yielded to me a "liquid damage" which, given my environment and history of use, makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Strangely convenient excuse to not replace my board and instead ask me to pay for a new one. Had I not been treated so poorly previously, I may have been more sympathetic, but as is, my business with Asus is done.

1 out of 5 eggsjunk

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: worked for a little while

Cons: another junk board from Asus. Will have to switch to another brand as this is happening way to often with this company. And as I have recently found out they don't stand behind their boards.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: The BIOS is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. I was expecting some Windows XP-looking garbage, but I was graced with something classy enough to be its own OS.

The motherboard looks fantastic. Very sleek design, has tons of things on it that I have no idea what they do.

Connecting everything was a breeze with clear labeling.

Came with tons of cords.

It came with two data SATA cables, which are two things that I had completely neglected to acquire when I bought my disc drive and my hard drive. Yes, I am an idiot. For that alone I'll give 5 eggs.

Cons: Price is a little steep, but the quality is definitely in the range of justification.

Other Thoughts: Always check the "frequently bought together" tab, it could save a life.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Excellent features for a moderate build at a reasonable price
Good build quality
Terminals are labeled nicely
On-board power switch for POST testing pre-install into case
Good documentation (my second build ever went flawlessly)
Automated overclocking works!

Cons: Like others have said, the I/O shield is kind of flimsy and this made final installation into the case a little frustrating, but this is not a deal breaker by any means. I did it unassisted after some fiddling.

Other Thoughts: This was only my second PC build ever and I decided to try overclocking. The automated OC feature of this board and the accompanying software was relatively mindless. I'm at a stable 4.5 ghz on an i5 4690k and I have no idea what I'm doing, haha.

During installation of the RAM and CPU cooler (212 Evo) I mistakenly tweaked the installed RAM stick nearest the CPU. I thought I may have damaged the board or the RAM, but nope, POSTed on the first attempt :)

2 out of 5 eggsEhhhh

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Looks good
Feels good
Has everything you'd need
Easy to setup

Cons: This motherboard is extremely frustrating to work with when it comes to installing windows 7 64bit through a usb drive. Ive looked up many ways that it could be fixed and i didnt find anything. I burned a copy of windows onto a dvd drive to see if that would work and im gonna soon find out tomorrow.

Other Thoughts: Its a good motherboard if you want to use 32bit operating systems.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible LAN

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Great board. I literally love everything but one thing about this board.

Cons: LAN. The LAN drivers are horrendous. I have to enable and disable the drivers for this board almost every time I turn on my computer, some times multiple times while the computer has been running. I have tried reinstalling and updating the drivers (the drivers are the most up to date drivers) and nothing works. I have been putting up with disabling and enabling the LAN drivers ever since I bought the board.

Other Thoughts: This would be 5/5 if it weren't for the nuisance of the LAN.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Evan,

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with the LAN drivers of our motherboard. I want to apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused you. I want to personally assist you with this matter. Do you have extra hard drive? If so, can you please use that hard drive in running another Operating System without removing the original hard drive of your unit? It might be the Operating System that is causing the issue to your motherboard. Please let me know how it goes. You can email me at customerloyalty@asus.com and place case # N150529893 in the subject line for a reference.

Best regards,
Manuel

4 out of 5 eggsBest in Class MOBO

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: IT Professional here-- The motherboard has everything. 7.1 Audio, KillerLAN nic, Z97 chipset, supports 5th gen intel processors... You can't ask for more. Currently I am running a i5 4690K @4.6Ghz and 16gb Corsair Vengeance @ 3000mhz... Everything runs stable and its so easy to OC. If something is not set right the mobo will reset itself so no there is no need to open the case and do manual work. 10/10 would buy again

Cons: Did not come with any screws, however it came with stickers which I was very please with.

Other Thoughts: No screws for new build :( had to go out to local computer shop and buy some

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Dead board, I will update when new one arrives

Cons: There was no seal on box and no seal on anti static bag. This was definitely a used or returned item, smudges all over back of board very dirty. Thanks to other reviews I checked the LGA 1150 socket and sure enough bent pins. Thanks to Neweggs great service I will be getting a new one and hopefully this one will be new and I can give a fair review. I have used many ASUS boards and they have been rock solid I wont give up yet I will give ASUS one more chance.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Andre,

5 out of 5 eggsLooks great, Works great, nice BIOS

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Great MoBo, plenty of USB, great BIOS. Documentation is great. Even looks pretty cool! Nice Gold / Bronze and black theme goin' on.

Cons: IO shield was hard to get in there, made installation a little tricky (I think I was being overly cautious as it was my first build). I didn't realize the board would pop into place once you got the middle screw sticky-upy-part into the right spot (real technical, I know). It took me a couple tries but I got it in there finally and the rest was a breeze. If you can make a buddy help you install it, I would.
