5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Gaming Board!

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI 4 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Upgraded from the MSI Z-77M Mother Board. Not a flaw in any of its functions. Already upgraded the BIOS and it was a simple process.

Cons: None at this point.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI 4 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Good looking UEFI. Big motherboard. Seems sturdy.

Cons: First board DOA. Second quit after 3 months.

Other Thoughts: I am very surprised how unlucky I am. Most people have decent good reviews. I had never received a DOA motherboard before until this one. I tested all my peripherals and they were fine. I paid to send the motherboard back and received a second one. It worked finally. I couldn't overclock. Maybe I got a bad silicon.

The second motherboard stopped working in three months. Did I mention all parts are new (< 3 months)? I ever got a new video card. The second motherboard wouldn't even boot into POST screen.

I will think thrice next time getting an Asus. You fail me so badly that I have decided not to buy Asus gaming monitor and tablet. I used to love your products and I hope you will improve your products soon.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. It is very uncommon to have two defective motherboards in a row. If the issue has not been resolved yet, have you tried re-seating RAM, video card, and all other components? Have you received a new RMA to send back for warranty service? Please feel free to contact me directly at cl-frank@asus.com with case # N150473095 in the subject line. If already sent back for warranty service, please provide your current RMA # in your response.

1 out of 5 eggsStop working after 4 months

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI 4 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Graphic UFEI

Cons: DOA, Sudden death, finicky RAM choice

Other Thoughts: I used it about 4 months. The first one was DOA. It is Asus! Darn, I was so disappointed. Then I got a replacement and it died after 4 months. The VGA_LED was lit. I got a new video card and now the FIRST_BOOT_DEVICE_LED is lit. I just don't get it. All my parts are new. I suspected my video card and I send my video card back. I wasted money to send it back to the store. I checked all my cables and they are all plugged in fine. I even reset the motherboard and it still didn't work.

Now I have to send it back to Asus. It cost me money to send back and I don't have a PC to play games. I hate to say but I don't think I will buy another Asus product.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

1 out of 5 eggsBENT PINS

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI 4 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: NOT ONE!

Cons: I get my MB open the box only to find my board in a open bag not a good sign and yes look at that bent pins awesome! So I go to Asus website get an RMA # ship my board back once I know they have received it I check the status everyday on their website and it states "in repair process" then I get an email they have shipped it back. I receive my MB back with a form letter from Asus saying "This letter is notification that your unit has been returned unrepaired as we did not receive the required payment" because the product arrived with CID (customer induced damage) Yeah that's what I do Asus I spend my money on Mother Boards then bend the pins and return the board for a new one thank you Asus!

Other Thoughts: I read all those horror stories about Asus customer service and thinking to myself they cant be that bad Lesson learned! I never thought that after spending over $150 on a product and receiving a defective/refurbished item that after sending it back to the manufacturer that they would send it right back and accuse me of breaking it.

In Asus defense they did email me 3 days in a row with a repair quotation and on the forth day shipping it back! I did not check my emails because I was watching the status on your website that said nothing except being repaired I never would have been looking for a repair bill on a product I just bought.

Writing this review was easy because I have been waiting on hold to speak to one of your customer service representatives over 30 minutes now! Thank you Asus

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Kindly email me back at customerloyalty@asus.com and place case # N150462438 in the subject line for a reference.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI 4 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Awsome motherboard for the price, so far no problems with it, everything works.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: the only trouble i had was with ram, but after tinkering around with it finaly made it run 16gb of ram with no problems, and not worth docking eggs just for that.

1 out of 5 eggsBad service, don't buy

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI 4 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: None with Asus

Cons: A motherboard from Asus failed under warranty and after six different RMA forms and a dozen phone calls the company still will not honor the warranty. Customer service is a joke. Do not buy Asus products.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat MOBO for a great price!

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI 4 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: - Overclocking was very easy with this board, pretty much automatic. However I'd recommend an after market CPU cooler or fan when overclocking. Even with my liquid cooling block I reached 80 degrees.
- Manual made sense and was very useful (unlike other brands).
- ASUS AI Suite 3 is a very nice utility for boosting CPU clock, fan speed controls, etc.
- One-sided clamp for RAM was different but nice.
- Z97 chipset.
- 4x Chassis Fan connectors + another CPU OPT connector.
- EZ XMP switched to on meant that my RAM read as 2400 on first boot.
- RealTek outputs up to 192kHz sample rate.
- Great UEFI BIOS, pretties I've seen. Again, OC'ing very easy.
- Came with 3 SATA cables, not sure if this is standard now but it was a nice surprise.

Cons: - I/O shield was cheap, but I guess I don't ever see really.
- Only 6 USB ports. My old board had 8 but this isn't much of a Con since I use only 5.
- Had to flash BIOS to 2205 (mine came with 2012) to get my 5th-Gen i7 to work. It was stupid easy with UEFI/BIOS though, just copy the .cap onto a (FAT32 formatted?) USB stick and run the Flash utility within BIOS.

Other Thoughts: First major upgrade in years, very pleased with the outcome.

- Intel Core i7-4790K Devil’s Canyon Quad-Core 4.0GHz LGA 1150 (OC to 4.8GHz at 1.325v) with Corsair H50 Liquid Cooler. Again, get an after market cooling fan or liquid cooler because it's unwise to OC without it.
- Samsung EVO 850 250GBs SSD. From the time I press the on switch to being able to open programs in just 10 seconds.
- G.SKILL Ares Series 16GB (2x8) 240-pin DDR3 2400
- EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0
- Ultra X3 850w modular PSU
- Win 7 Ultimate x64-bit because Win 8.1 is eww.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed in 4 months.

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI 4 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Very nice looking board.

Cons: I have had the board for almost 4 months now, and its already failed (some 3 year warranty). Woke up one morning to a board that wouldn't post, nor send power to any peripherals attacked to the board. My power supply passed its tests so it was clearly not the issue. Do not be confused by the good reviews, before purchasing please go back and check older negative reviews. This seems to be a recurring problem that i didn't notice at first. So just be cautious.

Other Thoughts: I love Asus products, the customer service is very good. You will continue to have my money. Just not in for motherboards.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsHardware/OS compatibility no bueno

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI 4 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: The BIOS is shiny.
The feature set is nice (I mean, heck yes to Intel Gigabit for a desktop motherboard, especially when the P6T-WS has Realtek Gigabit -_-...).

Cons: I bought this as a replacement for my ASUS P6T-WS motherboard (yes, Nehalem to Haswell is a big jump). I had just my LSI 9240-4i card plugged in. The motherboard would not boot for love nor money on FreeBSD 9.3+ or CentOS Linux 7.1, even after I upgraded the firmware on the LSI controller and the motherboard and tweaked all the settings/PCI-E placement, etc (search for "mfi timeouts at boot on ASUS Z97 motherboard with LSI 9240-4i freebsd-current").

Contacted ASUS support and I was given the "compatibility sheet" for the motherboard (search for "Z97 device report pdf"). Usually I take these things with a grain of salt, but it seems like hardware compatibility has become more stringent with some of their ASUS's new offerings -- in particular with the desktop offerings.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to purchase an Intel motherboard to replace this because I was told it works with my RAID card.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear NGie,

I do understand your concern in regards to the Hardware and Operating System Compatibility of the motherboard. I'm sorry for any inconvenience it caused you. I want to help you with this concern and I would like to know more about this. Kindly email me at customerloyalty@asus.com and place case # N150449893 in the subject line for a reference.

3 out of 5 eggsSlight problem

This review is from: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI 4 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Great BIOS

Cons: After 2 months of having the motherboard in my computer, the ethernet adapter stopped working (Code 10). Updating drivers, reinstalling Windows, etc. have not helped alleviate the issue, leading me and others to assume it is the fault of the motherboard. I considered just getting it fixed via warranty but unfortunately due to my job I need access to this computer nearly 24/7 so I was forced to buy a separate adapter.
