1 out of 5 eggsBad service, don't buy

Pros: None with Asus

Cons: A motherboard from Asus failed under warranty and after six different RMA forms and a dozen phone calls the company still will not honor the warranty. Customer service is a joke. Do not buy Asus products.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat MOBO for a great price!

Pros: - Overclocking was very easy with this board, pretty much automatic. However I'd recommend an after market CPU cooler or fan when overclocking. Even with my liquid cooling block I reached 80 degrees.
- Manual made sense and was very useful (unlike other brands).
- ASUS AI Suite 3 is a very nice utility for boosting CPU clock, fan speed controls, etc.
- One-sided clamp for RAM was different but nice.
- Z97 chipset.
- 4x Chassis Fan connectors + another CPU OPT connector.
- EZ XMP switched to on meant that my RAM read as 2400 on first boot.
- RealTek outputs up to 192kHz sample rate.
- Great UEFI BIOS, pretties I've seen. Again, OC'ing very easy.
- Came with 3 SATA cables, not sure if this is standard now but it was a nice surprise.

Cons: - I/O shield was cheap, but I guess I don't ever see really.
- Only 6 USB ports. My old board had 8 but this isn't much of a Con since I use only 5.
- Had to flash BIOS to 2205 (mine came with 2012) to get my 5th-Gen i7 to work. It was stupid easy with UEFI/BIOS though, just copy the .cap onto a (FAT32 formatted?) USB stick and run the Flash utility within BIOS.

Other Thoughts: First major upgrade in years, very pleased with the outcome.

- Intel Core i7-4790K Devil’s Canyon Quad-Core 4.0GHz LGA 1150 (OC to 4.8GHz at 1.325v) with Corsair H50 Liquid Cooler. Again, get an after market cooling fan or liquid cooler because it's unwise to OC without it.
- Samsung EVO 850 250GBs SSD. From the time I press the on switch to being able to open programs in just 10 seconds.
- G.SKILL Ares Series 16GB (2x8) 240-pin DDR3 2400
- EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0
- Ultra X3 850w modular PSU
- Win 7 Ultimate x64-bit because Win 8.1 is eww.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed in 4 months.

Pros: Very nice looking board.

Cons: I have had the board for almost 4 months now, and its already failed (some 3 year warranty). Woke up one morning to a board that wouldn't post, nor send power to any peripherals attacked to the board. My power supply passed its tests so it was clearly not the issue. Do not be confused by the good reviews, before purchasing please go back and check older negative reviews. This seems to be a recurring problem that i didn't notice at first. So just be cautious.

Other Thoughts: I love Asus products, the customer service is very good. You will continue to have my money. Just not in for motherboards.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsHardware/OS compatibility no bueno

Pros: The BIOS is shiny.
The feature set is nice (I mean, heck yes to Intel Gigabit for a desktop motherboard, especially when the P6T-WS has Realtek Gigabit -_-...).

Cons: I bought this as a replacement for my ASUS P6T-WS motherboard (yes, Nehalem to Haswell is a big jump). I had just my LSI 9240-4i card plugged in. The motherboard would not boot for love nor money on FreeBSD 9.3+ or CentOS Linux 7.1, even after I upgraded the firmware on the LSI controller and the motherboard and tweaked all the settings/PCI-E placement, etc (search for "mfi timeouts at boot on ASUS Z97 motherboard with LSI 9240-4i freebsd-current").

Contacted ASUS support and I was given the "compatibility sheet" for the motherboard (search for "Z97 device report pdf"). Usually I take these things with a grain of salt, but it seems like hardware compatibility has become more stringent with some of their ASUS's new offerings -- in particular with the desktop offerings.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to purchase an Intel motherboard to replace this because I was told it works with my RAID card.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsSlight problem

Pros: Great BIOS

Cons: After 2 months of having the motherboard in my computer, the ethernet adapter stopped working (Code 10). Updating drivers, reinstalling Windows, etc. have not helped alleviate the issue, leading me and others to assume it is the fault of the motherboard. I considered just getting it fixed via warranty but unfortunately due to my job I need access to this computer nearly 24/7 so I was forced to buy a separate adapter.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast, Simple, Easy

Cons: Rear panel is flimsy and cables are odd

Other Thoughts: Love the motherboard. First time using Asus in a build and am very impressed. Had some small issues with other boards in older builds and tried Asus this time after having an ROG Laptop for over three years. Board works flawlessly when setting up and has no trouble at all walking you through OC and setup. Will be buying again on next build.

4 out of 5 eggsA great choice

Pros: Nice looks
Rock solid stability
Great BIOS interface
Its ASUS!
Simple to get my 2133 mhz ram running at full speed on this
No weird or temperamental stability issues!
FULL SIZED ATX (it actually has standoff mounting at the edge of the board!)

Cons: The I/O shield is cheap. really cheap. not worth taking an egg off but yeah, its the kind of I/O shield i'd expect to see on a sub 100.00 motherboard

What is worth docking an egg is that after I installed windows and the intel chipset drivers, after rebooting my keyboard would NOT work in windows. it worked in bios but not in windows. after about a half an hour i found the problem. in bios there is an option labled xHCI or something along those lines which was set to smart auto, i set it to disabled and it worked.

Other Thoughts: the keyboard issue was an annoying issue but the ONLY issue i had. this board is completely awesome otherwise. highly recommended! this board is rock solid stable and has awesome features. Asus boards have always been reliable for me, from my dirt cheap board in a budget build to this one, i have never had major problems. I'm not even sure if the keyboard issue is an asus issue or chipset issue so definitely pick this up!

3 out of 5 eggsRebooting Issues

Pros: This is a great motherboard for the money, and includes features like a M.2 slot which is something that you usually find on premium motherboards. Many 4-pin fan connectors which can help if you have parts that require lots of cooling. If you are going on a budget this is the motherboard to go with.

Cons: Unfortunately for me, this motherboard was more of a problem than I had hoped. The biggest issue for me was a rebooting issue that I had narrowed down to the motherboard. I would turn on my PC and my monitor recognized my computer, but went into sleep mode, all the while my chassis fans were ramped up to maximum rpm. I would have to wait 10 seconds, turn it off, wait another ten seconds and turn it back on. Doing this would usually work, usually. If that didn't work then i would have to repeat the process as many times as it took with the longest time being around 15 minutes. This can be extremely difficult to deal with while installing a new operating system, troubleshooting,or especially in my case, overclocking. I spent days in total trying to fix this issue by shutting off the power supply and swapping out the on-board battery, multiple times. That fixed the problem the first time but to no avail, the same rebooting issue occurred. I tried a few other things in the bios too but there was nothing that would fix it.
On top of that when the motherboard first arrived in packaging the chip set heat sink had some scratches on it as well as in a few other places.

Other Thoughts: I feel this motherboard could have lived up to its expectations, but frankly, it didn't. Because my motherboard was faulty i will rate it a 3 out of 5 stars.

5 out of 5 eggsHighly Recommend this MOBO

Pros: Has everything you'd want out of high performance motherboards without breaking the budget.

- Asus will always and forever earn my business when it comes to hardware - as they are incredibly well made and cost and power efficient.
- The best BIOS I've seen in years
- 5 Way Optimization is a must have for gamers, in my opinion. Real time auto clocking and full system management from your desktop screen.
- Asus AI Suite 3 is incredibly powerful and easy to use
- 4 Case Fan Headers
- 2 CPU Fan Headers (6 Total)

Cons: Honestly have yet to find any cons. This if your motherboard if you want to save a little money.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't choose anything but Asus when it comes to Motherboards. Have ALWAYS had such a good experience with their motherboards.
Been gaming for almost 10 years now, and use Asus motherboards in every build that I can.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard

Pros: Advanced graphical BIOS, works well, good number of ports, boots in 10 seconds (with SSD, will probably vary).

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: It's a good deal
