5 out of 5 eggsJust what you need, solid board

Pros: Latest Hazwell support, 6 6Gig SATA ports, really good built in audio, customizable OC per application, GUI bio, BIO updates are stupid simple.

Cons: There nothing really bad about the board, it does use lower quality mosfets compared to the pro and has a few cosmetic downgrades but is expected being the entry level board

Other Thoughts: The board looks great, the toned down gold makes it look classy over flashy. I made the mistake of downloading and attempting to install all the updated drivers from asus. Don't, use the CD and install everything and then update, you'll get some file lost errors you'll have to hunt down if you do.

5 out of 5 eggsI like it

Pros: I love it, nice design. Works great and the 5 way optimization is great, easy overclocking. I got my i5-4690k to 4.6ghz with the 5 way optimization tool.

Cons: Don't grab the board by the silver/gold heat spreader things, I did and I almost broke em. Unfortunately if you have a big graphics card it will cover up that nice circle.

Other Thoughts: Overall great so far.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective Memory Slots

Pros: Everything but the memory seems to be exactly as advertised. It's not the highest end board I've ever had, but it does what it does.

Cons: The memory does not like dual channel. No sir. I had one that would boot with any combination of my ram, EXCEPT if I had one Dimm in each channel. (i.e. it would boot with either or both Dimms in channel A or both in channel B). However, but one Dimm in each channel and it doesn't work.

I RMA'd it and got a replacement and it won't boot with any Ram installed in channel A at all. But any ram in channel B.

Going to have to RMA this one too I guess and I'll try and get a different board. Shame I always liked ASUS.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings Aden,

I am sorry to hear that you had a problem with a second board as well sir. Did you happen to RMA it already? If not, please let me know and I will be happy to assist you with setting up an RMA so that I may look into your case further. Please include your reference number within the subject line. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you have tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome motherboard

Pros: Excellent z97 motherboard for the price. Have been using for about 3 weeks now and no problems yet to be scene. All hardware went in flawlessly including a bulky 770 gtx graphics card. Would recommend if working with i7 processor!
All the Asus programs included in motherboard are beyond cool for seeing whats going on in your system

Cons: n/a

1 out of 5 eggsCan't get to POST

Pros: Looks sexy.

Cons: Can't get to POST. DRAM_LED is lit solid even though I've got RAM that's on the qualified vendor list. Corsair CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 is what I'm using. Thought the RAM was DOA, got that exchanged through newegg but I have the same issue with the replacement RAM. Tried some GSkill DDR3-1600 and DDR3-8500 with same result. Now its been over 30 days so I can't send it back to newegg.

Worst motherboard experience I've ever had.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I am sorry that you are having issues with the motherboard. 3 out of 5 eggsGood board, very bad support

Pros: Well built board, nice extras, great Bios. Easy to find latest drivers on Asus site.

Cons: No HDMI audio due to Microsoft High Definition Audio Device driver (code 10 issue). Offending driver re-installs or re-enables on restart. Followed all ASUS technical direction and NONE of it was effective, including direction to RMA the MB to get a new MB which had same issue.

Other Thoughts: After I gave up all hope of help from ASUS and started fiddling myself I finally found the right sequence of actions to fix the driver problem:

Disable (don't uninstall) MS High Definition Audio Device
Uninstall and delete Realtek High Definition Audio Device.
Install Intel_Graphics_Win7-8-8-1_VER1018103496.
Install Realtek_Audio_Win7-8-8-1_VER6017233.
MS audio driver will no longer show in device manager, Intel graphics driver now provides HDMI output, so audio problem is resolved.

I give the hardware 5 eggs and the hardware support 1 egg (1 egg for polite and prompt) - so 3 eggs. I can't believe ASUS would cause me and Newegg the time and expense to RMA a board for a problem that should have been easy for them to help me fix.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent MOBO for the price for z97 chipset!

Pros: If you want to upgrade your MOBO from Z87 to Z97 and are on a budget, but still want all the high quality features of a $300 dollar board, then this should be your choice.

At first I was hesitant to buy this model from Asus instead of the Pro or Deluxe models, but this is such a quality buy for the price i just couldn't turn it down.

The new BIOS UI from Asus is mind boggling, It is so intuitive that it is hard to find anything wrong with it. cpu temp, case temp, board temp, lists of fans with all rpms, every usb device connected, OC interface is sleek and soooo easy for new ppl getting into OCing.

Board was very sturdy, well built with zero loose caps or connectors.

M.2 and sata express have UNGODLY speeds.

Just overall really impressed for spending $135 on this thing when it should really be a $200 board

Cons: The only thing I could find wrong with the board that didn't live up to my standard was that in the pictures the board looks black, which it is, but it is loaded with so many copper circuits that it actually has a shade of brown. Just keep that in mind for all you guys buying this board for its sleek black/pewter color scheme.

It also doesn't need the VGA / PS/2 port on the MOBO, considering todays standards are hdmi and displayport / USB

Other Thoughts: If you are on a budget and want Z97, this is the board for you

4 out of 5 eggsgreat board

Pros: great feature and most of it works better that expected, the OC features did a good job getting my initial setup running without issue. instructions are good to fair (it all went to geather and started on the first try)

Cons: having an issue with the bios allowing the selection of my EVO SSD as the Boot drive, the Bios sees the drive but it is just not in the list of available boot devices

5 out of 5 eggsEasy to set up and working great

Pros: Took no more than 30 minutes to set up, with no problems, except the "Memory overclocking" switch was set up as "Enabled" contrary to the manual.

Cons: None, really, although the M.2 connection type could be described in more specific and less technical terms to avoid confusion about compatible drives.

Other Thoughts: The position of some connectors (sound panel) were far away from the front - make sure you have enough cable to reach to the back before you tighten the screws.
If you want to connect an M.2 drive, make SURE it is a PCIe version - the popular SATA versions look identical, but are not compatible

3 out of 5 eggsPretty good mobo, but sometimes a little troublesome.

Pros: - Good motherboard for the price.
- Good BIOS

Cons: I've had a bit of trouble getting the mobo to work. The DRAM led light went on the first time I installed RAM onto it, despite said RAM being very properly seated and also being in ASUS's qualified vendors list.

Then, the "Boot Devices" LED stayed on, and it took me at least a day to figure out that it was my graphics card that was causing the trouble.

Speaking of which, there also was the problem with installing my GTX 770 in it. I've never had any problems with the graphics card while installing them on other motherboards. The system starts up, then immediately shuts down within five seconds, then starts up again, and it goes in a cycle.

Other Thoughts: I have yet to figure out how to get my motherboard to recognize my graphics card without the computer spazzing out upon bootup. The motherboard itself is not too shabby - especially for its features and price - but it's a bit of a hassle to get up at first, or at least for me.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Dave ,

I am sorry to hear that you are having some trouble with the motherboard sir. Please contact me through email so that we may discuss what troubleshooting steps you have tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Cs#N140710955
