4 out of 5 eggsVery easy to setup

Pros: I'm a huge fan of Asus products, and wasn't let down by this one at all. Instructions were perfect, installing everything onto the board was easy. The BIOS read everything, and setup was very very simple.

Cons: I do not like where the SATA connectors are on the motherboard. When you install the board, lay cables for power and drives they lay right over the SATA connectors which are designed going sideways and not up. So attaching and removing SATA cables requires a lot of extra work. Docking one Egg for this design flaw. Otherwise a great board.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: don't know

Cons: DOA, and killed 2 processors when I did the trouble shooting.

Other Thoughts: I trusted ASUS a lot so that all my pc are using asus motherboard as well as video cards, But this time, I was really disappointed.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Board

Pros: Motherboard has great value and awesome for the price. The board comes with great documentation and easy to set up.

Cons: The I/O shield isn't cut right for the DisplayPort and overlaps, kind of making it awkward and ugly in the back.

The onboard USB 3.0 connectors make a wierd clicking sound when moving the wire around. I tested the connection and it seems fine, but it's kind of slow in my opinion.

Other Thoughts: I like this board and it's a solid for anyone who is trying to get performance for under $150

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: The ASUS Z97-A was the motherboard I chose for my first ever build in conjunction with the Intel i5-4690k. The Q connectors that come with the motherboard made installation of all the case lights really easy. I've had no problems with anything so far. I haven't really done a lot of testing of the optimization software, but I haven't had any problems so I'm really happy with how everything turned out. It's also worth noting the 4 USB 3.0 ports in the back. This motherboard has everything you need and nothing that you don't, it truly does live up to the marketing strategy that ASUS has been promoting.

Cons: None as of yet.

2 out of 5 eggsFine except we have no sound at all.

Pros: Nothing we do will get the sound to work. Is there a trick to this or should it just start working? Not sure who to call for help. Put this together yesterday, hooked it up to a monitor today. Thoughts?

Cons: sound won't work at all

Manufacturer Response:

Dear AW,

I do apologize that you experienced issues with your motherboard's audio. What ports are you using for output? Are the drivers installed and the device shown working in device manager? Is it perhaps disabled in the BIOS? If you would like to discuss this case further, please contact me through email and include your reference number within the subject line. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you had tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you. Cs#N141252346

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect

Pros: Features, UFEI design, USB 3, build quality, parts selection (such as Intel NIC)

Cons: Mostly compatibility --- seems to still be a work in progress for this MB. Was fickle about RAM, had to go off the compatibility list to avoid BSODs. USB oddities are still quite annoying: some wireless keyboards don't work, a USB Gemalto smart card will hang the BIOS (you have to remove for every boot), occasional hangups for other USB devices behind older hubs (caused arbitrary resets of the bus).

2 out of 5 eggsLots of Audio Noise

Pros: Everything but the cons below.

Cons: Using HDMI audio/video from an EVGA GTX770. Lots of audio noise, popping and crackling including video slow down. RMA'd the GTX770, tried different Nvidia drivers, ASUS bios versions, bios settings, onboard devices off and on and nothing removes the noise. I tried a GTX 580 from another computer on this MB and still have the noise, but not as bad. The GTX770 and 580 both work without issues in another system I have (an older Asus board). I opened a support request with Asus 3 days ago and have not heard back from them, other than acknowledging my ticket (N141224381). I guess I'll just start an RMA.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I do apologize that you experienced issues with your motherboard. Is audio from the board itself ok and not through HDMI? If you would like to discuss this case further, please contact me through email and include your reference number within the subject line. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you had tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you. Cs#N141252646

4 out of 5 eggsGood and Bad

Pros: The product is good. I like Asus, this is my second mother board from them.

Cons: The issue is that the mobo will not put sound out to any left speaker. Whether it is a headset or a surround sound system (5.1). Every other speaker works but the front left. I am about to go through the process of getting this resolved. I will update this rating after I go through whatever inconveniences this will cause me to get it fixed or replaced. The problem is, you can't use your computer without the motherboard in it. I suspect this will be a pain.

5 out of 5 eggsYup, it's good...

Pros: -Build quality, it's there.
-Reliability, yes :).
-Functional, Does as advertised.
-Modest color scheme
-Sound quality is unbelievable for being on-board.

Cons: How could there be...

Other Thoughts: 10/10 would buy ASUS motherboard again XD

1 out of 5 eggsVideo, USB not working

Pros: The board had power to at least do fans and cpu.

Cons: On boot up and connected to onboard video, I got a black screen. Hook up at GTX 970 and get a black screen. Video was shot from the get go, not to mention my cpu pins were bent on arrival...Which, according to ASUS RMA, they won't cover and will charge ME for those issues. I bought this over black friday, and was really looking forward to it considering my last board was asus and is still running perfectly fine. I feel like I just got robbed...Here's to hoping they don't screw me over when I try to send this in. I would really like to use this board, if I can get one that works.

Other Thoughts: As stated previously, my last board was asus, so I upgraded to this Z97-A. This is REALLY disappointing, especially if I RMA this thing and they tell me I owe THEM money for buying THEIR product and it being a piece of junk on arrival. I worked really hard to save up to get these items, and I just hope they treat me properly considering that.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello TK,

We're sorry to hear about your experience with the motherboard. Our motherboards go through rigorous inspection before leaving the factory, and all come with a protective CPU socket cover to prevent accidental damage to the socket pins. Although of course we can not control the environment that our products are in once they are distributed. Unfortunately, this type of damage is not covered under warranty and a standard repair cost will apply. To proceed, please contact us again at (812)282-2787 or use the online RMA submittal form at: http://www.service.asus.com/#!b2c3/cpm1 . If you would like to discuss this case further, please contact me through email and include your reference number within the subject line. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you had tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you. Cs#N141230243
