Pros: ASUS has always been my favorite. Ease of BIOS configuration, good documentation. What I thought was going to be a simple PC for web-surfing, it is much more than that.
Cons: Not really a problem with the board, BIOS update utility states all is current. It was 3 behind the current.
This review is from: ASUS Z97I-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard
Pros: + typical high quality Asus construction (uh, except for one thing, see below), no coil whine, great component placement
+ great UEFI BIOS interface
+ built-in overclocking utility in the UEFI - this is so, so great. I haven't really overclocked a processor since the Northwood P4 / Palomino Athlon XP days and wasn't really sure where to start. Having a one-click option to get me started was a big help
+ design aesthetics - some may not even care, but I dig the color choices for the components of this board, very understated
+ m.2 slot supports the full size 2280 spec cards, both SATA and PCIe modes of operation, so it'll work with anything
Cons: - the one thing that wasn't typical of Asus' usual quality: the plastic "retention clip" thing at the end of the PCIe slot snapped off with very little pressure; doesn't have any effect on the board's performance and capabilities, but I thought it was odd that other users had the same experience
- m.2 slot location on the underside of the board, fine for initial system install, but if you're working in a mini ITX case, the only way you might be able to replace the drive is to remove the motherboard entirely
- odd that the wifi antenna leads have to be connected to the backplate the way they do; could make uninstall a little more complex (if, for example, you need to remove the board to replace the m.2 SSD)
Other Thoughts: - Azurewave wifi-ac, a note for Ubuntu users (of which I am one): I expected an Atheros chipset and instead discovered a Broadcom one. Thankfully, Ubuntu 14.04 had support in the LiveCD environment (or after an install) by installing "additional drivers"
- tall heatsink along the edge of the board with the 8pin AUX power connector may interfere with some wider low profile heatsinks; on the one I am using I had to bend a heatpipe slightly to make sure it would fit properly; different heatsink designs may not have this problem and I may try one or two others in the future to see if one fits better
- not a fault of the board, but something to consider with component choice: I bought low profile DIMMs for this system, but not "very low profile" and I found this meant I needed to orient the heatsink with the heatpipes coming out of the base parallel to the DIMMs, which is when I noticed the above about having to bend a heatpipe slightly to make everything fit
This review is from: ASUS Z97I-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard
Pros: -Overall very impressive quality. -Great layout with enough room for a big CPU air cooler (although I went for an H90). -The UEFI bios are great and I was able to get a 4790K stable at 4.7Ghz at 1.300v in a mini-ITX case. -Tons of USB 3.0 ports -Also a very high quality I/O shield.
Cons: The little PCIe slot notch broke off without much force applied to it. It's not worth an RMA. Luckily My case (Node 304) has a mechanism to lock the GPU securely in place anyway.
This review is from: ASUS Z97I-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard
Pros: Works great It's an Asus WIFI M.2 Front Panel extender makes life SO much easier RAM worked instantly after installing
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Used this in my first build - comes with a lot of great features and utilities you can download from Asus's website
System Specs: Asus z97i Plus i5 4690k Asus GTX 750 ti Deepcool Gabriel cpu cooler G Skill Ares 8gb (2 x 4gb) DDR3 1600 Cooler Master Elite 130 Cooler Master V 550 semi modular 80+ gold Samsung 840 evo
This review is from: ASUS Z97I-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard
Pros: Love the board. Easy to install, good layout, was able to fit the tower cooler (Noctua NH U9B) with no issues. I love the Q-connector, makes it so much easier to install
Cons: The latch on the PCIe broke, it almost feels like the plastic was aged. But i can live with this...
Other Thoughts: It isn't too easy to plug the Wi-Fi cables to the module with fat fingers (my case), but managed to do so.
This review is from: ASUS Z97I-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard
Pros: - Very well laid out motherboard - Good IO shield - Multiple thermistors for monitoring temperature is nice - Memory compatibility check feature is nice
Cons: - Having to screw the wireless adapter connections to the back of the IO plate is a little odd (makes for a not so tight connection). - I had to install the updated bios from the website in order to get it to boot properly (had high system instability before update) - USB 3.0 ports failed after driver install - Some downloaded drivers from ASUS website were corrupted - CPU retention bracket interfered with 3rd party cooling backplate
Other Thoughts: It was a little upsetting that I had such difficulty getting the motherboard and hardware working in tandem in Windows. I've built several computers over the last 15 years and this was one of the bad installs. I originally thought the motherboard was dead (or at least flaky). It runs normally after much headache. It was pretty disappointing.
(Case installed to is Corsair Obsidian 250D)

This review is from: ASUS Z97I-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard
Pros: The specs look good. The reviews are highly complementary however the board has a defective memory slot which I have been increasingly running into with ASIS products. I had a similar problem with the ROG V! Board and the P7 Z88. Time to change vendors
Cons: See above regarding memory problems
Other Thoughts: I discovered at exactly the 30 day mark that the memory was 4096 instead of 8 GB so no return to Newegg possible.

Pros: Incredible performance, bios layout and features. The IO plate foam coating makes it hard to allign the motherboard over the standoffs completely.
This review is from: ASUS Z97I-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard
Pros: Everything works well. Nice feature set. Decent layout and usability considering the small form factor.
Cons: None really. Cable connectors fit very tightly on the WiFi Module.
Other Thoughts: Still in the testing stage, but I'm optimistic.
