2 out of 5 eggsAsus Sabertooth Z97 not Good

Pros: Nice looking Z97 die 1150 and it has a lots of accessories to make it a good and fast gaming board?

Cons: I have try to get a RMA because it wont boot? Had to rma the corsair because the USB is not comparable been a 3.1 USB to the Corsair 2.0 USB. I can't understand why the pump for the Corsair the light started blinking , turn blue and then gray and it stop working. Took it to a professional computer company and expert repair person explain that the USB is over power and that voltage is over 600 amp and cook the pump.
I call Asus support for four day. they answer by saying that new BIOS has to be update and also the USB has to be update with new software.
I been trying to get a RMA for a week, finally I ahve case number and that will call me back||||| they never did the return call.
First the support number it hard to find since they have changed. The first case number was N150728214, they say they will call me back, They never call..I call back and i got a difference assistance from a woman. I ask for a expedited shipping ASAP because my system was down and motherboard wont turn on.
They give me a new case number N150756800 on they said i need to pay $249.00 dollars for the expedited RMA and that they would send me a e-mail with the RMA and the credit card info for payment until i return the damage BOARD. That was about three days ago and no e-mail from anybody.
I just call today 07/22/2015, and they explain it take time that the RMA dept was close until 8:30 PST and they will ask why the delay and will call me back.
I told the support person if i don't get a call and e-mail today i will get legal counsel and file with Federal Court a complaint. Its been two weeks and nothing it been form Asus.
I will like to get my money back and buy some other product.

Other Thoughts: I was going to buy a MSI board and i the wrong choice in buying a ASUS?

Pros: Excellent board, everything on it is high quality, it fits everything I need for my high end build. The back plate is nice. The BIOS is intuitive and easy to use. Most importantly it looks very cool.

Cons: The thermal shield looks awesome but makes attaching it to the case slightly inconvenient, swearing at it improved the process significantly. The tiny assist fans tend to be spectacularly loud for the size.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Mobo!

Pros: This mobo does everything I want it to. Managed a 4.7Ghz overclock with an i7 4790k. No problems supplying voltage to the CPU or any other parts. Even has small mini fans to keep under the armor cool!

Cons: Not really any that I can think of.

1 out of 5 eggsUnfreakinbelievable!

Pros: Nice Board, good featureset, You either like the looks or you don't.

Cons: Missing all the screws to install the two assist Fans, SLI connector wrapping was partially torn. Called ASUS, they wouldn't send me the 6 small screws. Said to call Newegg, they'll most likely want me to return it. Also no tamper proof tape on the box, so I have no Idea if Newegg sold me an openbox/return or not. Only 2 scenarios I can think of:
1) ASUS left the screws out
2) Newegg sold me an OpenBox

I feel probably ASUS left the screws out, although the box was not pristine looking, there was no wrap around the box and the hinge portion for the box top was partially torn. Asus could not effectively tell me the screw specs, so I'll have to figure that out and source them myself from McMaster Carr for a most likely $15-20 charge by the time they ship me 0.1 gm of screws! I'll probaly have to order 50 of each size as well.

Other Thoughts: Thought I was going to have fun today building. Got the Z97 Sabertooth Mark I, 4790K, Nvidia Titan X, Blu Ray Burner, 32 GB 2400mHz GSkill Tridents, Two 1TB Samsung 850 Pros, a 250GB Samsung 840 EVO, Six Noctua Fans, EVGA 1000P2 PS, and a handfull of other drives to build an Eight drive multiboot box today and ran across these screws missing THANX ASUS and Newegg!!

To be fair, I did not call Newegg, I figured they would just have me RMA the board. I figured ASUS would send me the six itsy bitsy screws, But Nope, they don't seem to grasp this in Pakistan or India or wherever Tech support was this afternoon.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Motherboard.

Pros: The "Thermal armor" is fantastic. It makes the motherboard looks nice, it protects and it keeps the temps low.
I believe the "Thermal radar" (software) is easy to use and understand and it also helps keeping low temps in the system.
The 2 little fans that it comes with are a nice add-on to keep those temps where you want them (all about coolness). You can also change the air flow by opening and closing the "flow valve" (part of the armor).
-Dust defender for all ports and slots.
-Beautiful, easy to use, UEFI.
-Asus Homecloud is nice and makes sharing easier.
-5 years manufacture warranty.

Solid mobo, easy to install.

Motherboard has so many good features (software and hardware).

Cons: It's pricey.

The only little problem I had is that I wasn't able to install one of the little fans because I'm using the 1st x1 PCI express.

Other Thoughts: Bought this board on June 2014 and it's been working amazingly amazing since then.
I had a 4770k, now it's running a 4790k. Overclock couldn't be easier!

My last build had a Gigabyte 890FX, 1090t...(my last Intel build was a pentium 4).

When it comes to motherboards I go with Gigabyte and/or ASUS (sometimes MSI). I had 2 AMD Gigabyte mobos before and they were awesome. This time I decided to go Intel ASUS and I regret nothing.
Everything so far is fantastic...from the dust protectors (I live in AZ so they work for me) to all the software you can install to monitor almost every single thing in your PC.
At the beggining I didn't even know where to start with all the features ASUS gave to this mobo...from the old school BIOS to the fantastic Sabertooth UEFI. What an upgrade.

Can you imagine if you can control the flow valve with software?

If you're looking for a ~$250 Intel motherboard. I would recommend this one any day.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not trust Asus for Quality

Pros: Never worked right because of bent cpu socket pins from day one when I got this MOB.

Cons: I purchased this motherboard on 6/26/2014 never worked right had issues from day one. Seven months
later I send the motherboard for a RMA warranty repair and I get a bill for $170 plus shipping
cost $28 for bent cpu socket pins stupid me I paid the bill stupid me for trusting Asus
(yes you got another sucker). I believe this motherboard was not damaged by me or the reseller
or shipping from your factory it left damage at your factory. Don't say you do not ship damaged
products search the internet and look up customer reviews you will see you ship damaged products
and the list goes on an on. If you want to do the right thing I would like a full refund of $198
for repair and shipping cost and I will be a loyal Asus customer. If not than I walk and never
buy Asus products again.

Other Thoughts: Asus you need to clean up your act and go back to your core values "Quality' Honesty, Integrity". Prove to me I'm wrong you have chance to do the right thing if not never again will I buy Asus products. has a Plugable USB 2.0 USB Microscope for $35. This is great tool to inspect the Intel cpu socket pins for damage. Look to make sure the pins are uniform a bent pin will stick out. If your mob is new out of the box send it back to Newegg asap for damaged cpu socket pins. If your past the 30 day Newegg RMA do not send mob to Asus they will burn your for the repair like me($198). Get the Microscope a mechanical lead pencil( 0.5mm and 0.7mm get both one should work). With a
steadily hand and patience you can fix any bent pins. This a lot cheaper then going Asus for the repair.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for this inconvenience. The issue with the bent cpu socket pins seems to be an isolated case. All ASUS products are thoroughly inspected and tested before distribution. We strongly encourage customers to inspect the product for any type of damage prior to use to avoid this type of issue. If there are any issues with the repaired motherboard please allow me to personally assist you. Please feel free to contact me directly at at with case # N150490685 in the subject line.

1 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: If the board is functioning it is a nice performer.

Cons: I have had this board for 8 months, and it has died twice. The first time I RMA'ed it and while prepping the shipment I damaged the CPU pins, and had to pay for repairs... nothings perfect, it died but I damaged it on the way in.. no harm no foul there.

Two months later I rebooted my machine and it won't post. Through trouble shooting I deduce that memory channel "A" is bad and sent the board in for another RMA.. two weeks later same broken board is returned to me with the same problem. When I called tech support I was told they certified it working and since I didn't listen for beep codes it was a waste of my money to ship it.

To date I have replace or removed all parts except for the motherboard and it has the same issue, but their RMA department just wasted my time and money by shipping it back and forth.

Other Thoughts: I've used asus MBs since the 90s when I got a 440bx board and have loved them enough to support them through other devices such as phones, network gear, tablets and video cards. But treating me like an idiot and proving awful customer service means I can't support them anymore.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We want to thank you for making an effort posting this review and I understand that you have issue with the motherboard. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this issue have caused you. I understand how frustrating it is since you have RMA'd it alreadyand the motherboard came back the same. If you can gave us another chance, I can help you with this issue. I can create a new RMA for the unit and I will note that the first repair is unsuccessful since the unit came back with the same issue. If you want to discuss this matter further please don't hesitate to email at and put case # N150379759 in the subject line for your reference.

1 out of 5 eggsASUS "USE" to be a good brand

Pros: Looks Good
Supports everything I need
Can do 3 Way SLI (I don't use nor need this but it's a nice feature to have.)
Contains 2 fans, one intake and the other exhaust for under the "Armor" portion.
Lots of USB ports

Cons: Expensive
Hard to get to some connections because of the "Armor" bulking out
Unusable after a little more than a month.

I put together my new PC on January 1st, 2015. A little over a month later, I come home and turn my PC on for a little gaming session, about 30 minutes later, my computer all of a sudden shuts off (no power) in the middle of a game. I power it back on and then it shuts off again after 3 seconds, not even enough time to get to the boot screen. This was particularly upsetting because abruptly shutting off like that could easily have damaged other components or corrupted the data on my HD.

My first thought was the PSU, which I then RMA'd and bought a new one while I waited which had more Watts and more efficient. This didn't work, I changed the RAM, GPU, CPU Cooler, Cleaned the CPU and nothing worked. I then reset the BIOS via removing and re-attaching CMOS Battery, which kept it powered on for an extra 2 seconds.

I then unplugged everything except the RAM, CPU and CPU Cooler, which it powered off after 5 seconds. That's when I figured out that the motherboard had failed. I attempted to contact ASUS via their email services. Don’t get me started on what an absolute nightmare ASUS’ support path is.

First, the site required me to enter a bunch of information about my system. I did that and gleefully pressed send and I was promptly greeted with a message telling me that I couldn't leave a value empty, which I didn't. Triple, Quadruple checked. Even tried different browsers and it still didn't work.

After all of that, I decided to do a live chat with a guy who, I’m fairly certain was closely related R2D2 (the robot trash can from Star Wars). I told him my situation and he kept saying "I apologize". I’m not looking for an apology. I’m seeking a resolution and for you to honor the warranty you provided me when I purchased your product.

Eventually we got to the point where he decided to help me with an RMA. R2D3 kept dodging my questions with other questions. He refused to answer anything regarding how long the process takes. It’s very upsetting that I’ve been without a PC for going on 2.5 weeks now, and I would just like to know when I can expect to get my PC working again. Eventually I just told him to get the RMA process going and I'll go buy another motherboard in the meantime. Completely Unacceptable Service.

Always had Asus Motherboards. This is my last one. In fact, this is the absolute last time I buy anything ASUS because it has become painfully obvious that satisfying their customers is WAYYY down on their priority list.

5 out of 5 eggsSick!

Pros: With metal back plate and the thermal armour this thing is a beast. Very strong construction.

Great attention to things such as USB3.0 port and SATA ports being at a right angle so there is no stress on the MoBo from the cable and makes your build look that much cleaner.

The 2 included MoBo fans are pretty awesome as well as all the plugs to fill in any unused ports, pci/e slots, or dimms

Cons: Some of the screw holes in the thermal armour are long no eggs subtracted though just suggest using a magnetic or good fitting screw driver shouldn't be to big of an issue.
