4 out of 5 eggsSecond try is the charm.

This review is from: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Working, this board is user friendly imo. when I first installed the board it was smooth and clean. everything fit and worked together well. The bios are very easy to use, there is also a notice mode in the bios to make it even more simple. When actually on my computer I cannot complain, it works great, LAN is good, audio is what I expected, and downloading the drivers was easy. I would recommend this board.

Cons: Unfortunately all of this was on the second try. I had my first motherboard for around 5 days before it randomly died when in the middle of playing a game. I called Asus for an RMA which as always was unhelpful. it turns out I was still within my 30 day return from newegg and it worked great. Be careful though because if any of the pins are damaged when returning your board, you will not get a return from newegg.

1 out of 5 eggsAsus turning to junk brand

This review is from: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Nothing good about this brand anymore

Cons: Problem with LAN, PCI start after 3 mounts.
Worst Customer Service Experience ever. No body knows what they doing every person has a own rule. No more asus

Other Thoughts: Tried to contact ASUS to RMA this bad board. I talked to 4 or 5 different people, always having the call dropped towards the end of the conversation when they were taking down my address to set up the RMA. They would never call back after the call dropped even after I had made sure they had my call back number during the initial call. I deal with tech manufacturers almost daily and this is by far the worst experience I have ever had. I am an IT consultant and direct a lot of businesses and home users on what to buy, and you can make sure that ASUS will NEVER be recommended again. EVER.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Arash,

I am sorry for the all the trouble you had to go through in attempting to get an RMA and the inconvenience it may have caused. I would love to help you with your problem. Please contact me at cl-justin@asus.com and I will help you to the best of my abilities. Your case # for reference is N150769094

Thanks for choosing ASUS

Regards,
Justin

4 out of 5 eggsHad a tiny hiccup

This review is from: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Very large and spaced board
LED's are subtle and nice

Cons: The USB 3.0 port feels a bit loose
The Soundstage button being on the inside makes it hard to use without pulling the cover off.

Other Thoughts: When I received the piece I was buying parts to build a computer and left it on my desk. When I received the remaining parts I went to install all of them, but when I went to install the CPU the pins inside were bent. I then shipped my motherboard to ASUS for repairs to it and in the RMA sheet it left a spot for PSU and HDD so I figured why not. It said it would take about 3 weeks for finalization on the motherboard. 5 WEEKS later I finally got my motherboard back after 3 calls to the company, but didn't have my HDD or PSU.
I called them immediately and they said that a payment hadn't been made to receive those back. Excuse me while I ponder why the RMA asks for the items but then now they are listed as third party and I have to pay extra to receive them. No one could tell me where my items were either and about after 5 more calls each day asking why I hadn't received an email or info on my PSU and HDD I admit I got a bit rude. It turns out that the eform for the returning PSU and HDD was never sent to me.. Even in the end I got my pieces back, but I also noticed that this motherboard wasn't mine repaired or a new one. It was some other one they had around because the cover for the MIC IN is stripped off and there is a deep scuff on the piece around the chipset slot.

A technical issue I had with the motherboard was BSOD's that were listed as driver issues, but I installed the drivers from the disk sent to me.. I was then later given an ASUS disk for the motherboard that was a newer code for updated drivers. I haven't had an issue since, but why did I have an out of date driver disk.

Overall, motherboard was great, ASUS tech support was nice (aside from the last gentleman I talked to that refused to let me talk and continued to cut me off.) but nothing really got done until I was rude.

4 out of 5 eggsHigh Performance Motherboard

This review is from: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: I benchmarked my desktop after installing this board and was delighted with the performance for the CPU, RAM (overclocked through the motherboards XMP BIOS setting), and SSD hard drive. This motherboard will provide the high performance that many customers are looking for.

Cons: The first unit that I received was clearly defective. I was able to return it, but the hassle of having to replace a defective part decreases my rating a bit.

4 out of 5 eggsLove is not perfect

This review is from: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Being awesome should not be this easy. Bios makes even me want to overclock, and the supplied drivers and software are spot-on.

Cons: Only one stumble. Be advised the M.2 slot does not support SATA, only PCI-E (which is of course better). Just had to RMA an unopened SSD and reorder the correct one, luckily caught it in the review section

Other Thoughts: I use my high power system for Blender animation, and this 'puter is fierce. Need MAD horsepower for rendering. But my i7 4790 CPU only test render is right at top of spec. Just waiting for my SSD and Nvidia GPU to really hit top speed.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Motherboard when it comes to Sound

This review is from: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Easy to OC, looks nice. Works well if you don't care about sound.

Cons: Horrible motherboard when it comes to sound. I have never had a worst experience in my life then I have had dealing with Asus. First, the issue is I have no EQ in windows or my Realtek sound menu. Nothing. All I have is "Loudness Equalization." This is an absolute deal breaker for me because I love sound and NEED an EQ. I contact Asus and they seem helpful. My tech in my support ticket has me try a million different driver combos, reinstall windows, and flash my BIOS. After a ton of work, it still isn't working so I am thoroughly irritated by now. He tells me I need to RMA the board and get a replacement. That is fine, but I use my PC for work so I had to buy a new board off Newegg and wait for it, then I got that new board up and running today and I can RMA my old board. The only problem is after ANOTHER windows install and driver update my EQ is STILL missing. Same exact problem. I very rarely buy Asus products because I ALWAYS have had problems in the past, and this just finalizes it. I will have to buy a sound card now just to run my EQ settings for my speakers.

TIP: DO NOT buy this board if you run digital out to your speakers. There is a chance they WILL NOT WORK. Please be warned, if I knew this was going to be such a hassle I would never have bought this Asus board. It will be too much work to fix this problem or buy a new board and go through an entire Windows install again, so now I am stuck with this piece of junk mobo with no EQ. Seriously, stay away if you want an EQ and good sound. Or have a sound card ready. Asus has let me down big time here.

Other Thoughts: Do NOT buy this if you want to use the EQ with Digital Out. It might not work. I've tried 2 boards and every driver under the sun, it just doesn't work with this chipset.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Product

This review is from: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Error code system,
led lighting,
great sata connectot spot,
great looks,
great bios,
m2.0 ssd connector,

Cons: board led lights could glow brighter

Other Thoughts: I bought this board as an upgrade so i could build into my new corsair air 540 case. Put it all together, powered it on and got no signal from motherboard. Amazingly i googled the error code and found instantly the ram wasnt seated properly. Reaseted the ram and bingo my pc is amazing and good to go. No trial and error fussing over what might not be working! The baord has awesome led lighting but i wish it was brighter. The single clip PCIe and ram slots make seating your gpu and ram pretty easy with one hand. I havent had any problems and the software and drivers are great. It even comes with a ramdisk program!! I would highly recommend this board and i look forward to overclocking with it!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat mobo

This review is from: ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Chose this for my first gaming build after tons of research. I paired it with a core i5 4690k. Installation into my full atx tower was easy, except for the I/o cover didn't fit very well (double sided tape is the current solution). That's about the only issue that I have. No audio issues as others have mentioned, it arrived in working condition, and the qcodes were very helpful for troubleshooting on a first time build (oh, how I learned).

Cons: My evga gtx970 had a tough time connecting (physically and otherwise). I had to do some bios updating and download some drivers to get the board to recognize it. I also had to apply more pressure than I was comfortable using to get it into the slot. Overall, it works after some fighting.

Other Thoughts: I chose the board for its ability to handle upgrades and higher end capabilities. Aside from being a first time builder freaking out about every qcode and issue, it's a great board. Qcodes made it easy tobfigure out was wrong/what I did wrong. Many thanks to Tom's Hardware on that. Connecting the board to my psu and case was relatively pain-free. The bios makes oc-ing a breeze, setting preferences is easy, and mouse functionality really is a nice feature. This board makes things rather simple for people new to building a gaming/high end pc. I'm just happy I received a good board.
