5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely love it

Pros: This board is beautiful. The color and layout is great, kinda the reason I chose it. Opened it up, everything installed easy. Bios is very easy to work around; shouldn't have any problems.

Cons: This was all my fault. Accidentally bent one of the CPU pins, however the board still works which is great. Will probably return it at some point, as long as Newegg and Asus remain loyal to my 1 year warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus Maximus VII Hero

Pros: Very nice well laid out motherboard. Manual tells you everything you need to know about it. Does overclock, prefer not to, even though i'm running water cooling. Looks nice in gamers case as well.

Cons: None as of right now.

Other Thoughts: Wish my case lite up red like the motherboard, but no worries. Still looks very nice at night, blue case fans, motherboard lites up red.

1 out of 5 eggsReceived Broken Won't Replace!!!!!

Pros: NONE!!!!!!! Don't have any since motherboard was received broken and I never got to use it!!!!

Cons: So I was excited about receiving this motherboard upon ordering. Once it arrived, I removed it from the packaging and removed the black sleeve from the CPU cover only to find that some of the pins where bent. I called Newegg and received a RMA. I sent the motherboard in and a few days later they said my RMA was approved but when I checked my E-mail Newegg sent me an E-mail stating that they WILL NOT REPLACE because the CPU pins where bent and that shows signs of installation!!!! How are you going to send me a broken motherboard, agree to fix it, and then say you can't because of the exact reason you agreed to fix it!?!?! I have read up on many issues with Newegg sending motherboards out with bent pins and saying they will fix them only to send the item back saying they won't because of " SIGNS OF INSTALLATION." I ordered from Newegg under the impression that they are the best but the only thing I am seeing is that Newegg is A JOKE!!!! Very disappointed in the service that Newegg has provided me. They refuse to fix the defective motherboard I received even after they said they would and to top it off won't even refund me they are sending me back a broken/defective motherboard. Great job Newegg!!!!

Manufacturer Response:

Pros: This motherboard is everything you could ask for from a mid-priced gaming motherboard. Looks great as well with the illumination effects turned ON! Overclocks my i7 4770k just fine to 4.2mhz.

Cons: none so far

4 out of 5 eggsGood board. Not fan of M.2 implementation. Brand name price premium.

Pros: Looks good. UEFI is offers great features and is easy to navigate. No stupid sata express. I really don't like that standard. Intel NIC. Overclocking is stupid simple.

Doesn't have a third pci-e 3.0 x16 slot, which means the bottom 2.0 x16 slot is actually usable in an nvidia SLI setup. Other manufacturers make it so that an SLI setup has just one usable pci-e x1 slot between both GPUs (since big cpu heatsinks usually block the top one). Although, because of this boards M.2 implementation you still have only one extra expansion slot, being that bottom 2.0 x16 slot.

Benchmarks show better usb 3.0 and sata transfer speeds on this board than other gaming boards.

Cons: For this price, Asus really needs to put some of that ROG armor on these things. It's so top heavy because of the heatsinks that the whole thing constantly feels like it's about to break in half flexing all over the place. Why is there no bluetooth or wifi at this price level?

Competitors offer about double the usb 3.0 ports and for cheaper prices.

Most other boards disable some of the sata ports in order to support the M.2 slot. This motherboard keeps them on, but disables all other expansion slots, except the bottom 2.0 x16 slots and cuts it's bandwidth down. I would've preferred disabling some sata ports and having more options for expansion on the motherboard, especially since it doesn't have bluetooth or wifi built in and has the minimum number of supported usb 3.0 ports.

On board audio is nothing special. My asus essence stx still destroys it in terms of audio quality.

Other Thoughts: I went with Asus because my last two motherboards have been Asus and have never given me problems. I went with the ROG because of the color scheme and how ugly their regular boards look. The red is not nearly as bright as the pictures here on newegg make it seem to be. Matches just fine with MSI's Gaming red.

Set this with an i7 4790k with a Noctua NH-U14S cooler, 16GB of G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series ram, two MSI GTX 780Ti Gaming gpus, and an Asus Essence STX sound card. All inside a HAF X with a Corsair AX1200i.

The Noctua cooler doesn't block ram, but it does block the first pci-e x1 slot.

Overall it's a very good motherboard, but I can't help but feel that you're paying about a $50 premium just for the Asus ROG name. Other directly competing gaming motherboards from MSI and Gigabyte are not only cheaper, but have more features than this one does.

5 out of 5 eggsBe a Hero!

Pros: You can use a mouse in the fricken bios!!

Cons: Comes with hardware built in the protect you from a jealous psychotic girlfriend!!

Other Thoughts: The hero is such a celebrity right now, and ROG is setting new standards. The built in lighting would be lame, but you can turn it off in the bios =D This motherboard is so loaded it comes with a huge novel describing all its features.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS FTW

Pros: Easy setup. UEFI Bios. OC within Windows. XMP Profiles. Sonic Radar is a cool utility for FPS gaming, some call it cheating.. its neat though. This is my 5th ASUS mb with no complaints. Would highly recommend ASUS to anyone looking to build a high quality PC.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I am a DevOps engineer with over 15 years experience with computers, from helpdesk to Sys Admin/Engineer.

5 out of 5 eggsHero

Pros: This board has more than enough software and hardware that I need. Looks amazing! Made my first real build super easy when I ran into problem the motherboards qcodes and on board cmos and memok buttons just made it an easy and quick installation. It keeps my chip overclocked and stable and as I came to find out it adjust the vcore settings to fit with a stable settings for me.. I had it at 1.235 and it adjust it too 1.240 when I reset it from a crash due to under voltage. I manually adjust it to 1.245 and i havent had any problems keep a 4.5 overclock.

Cons: The only thing I do not like is the rog lighting features I love it but when you shutdown the computer the lights dont turn off. And the only setting the bios allows is either it to be on 24/7 or off 24/7 even when turning the computer back on. Please Asus give us more options with the lighting effect I am pretty sure its just a quick update to the bios or a firmware update.
