5 out of 5 eggsGreat mobo!!

Pros: Plugged in my 4770K and went to town with easy Multiplier overclocking using an H105 water cooler. After getting Win7 Ultimate installed, I checked for an updated BIOS using the included EZ Update software and the BIOS was immediately updated to the newest version. Absolutely the easiest BIOS update I've ever done! What a difference from the days of a floppy disk and DOS!

The UEFI Bios is intuitive and more complete than any I've ever used before. I've been running EVGA boards for the last six years in almost all the builds I've done and exclusively in my own PC's. Their BIOS has been difficult to update and not intuitive for most people. This one though, even if you've never looked at a BIOS before, is thoroughly explained in BIOS instead of having to read some manual. For those of us with years of experience, this BIOS is a tweakers DREAM!

Easily overclocked my 4770k to 4.2GHz with a multiplier change and a VERY slight voltage bump. Rock solid and 48hr Prime Stable.

I find the board to be very well made from the high quality Caps and MOSFET's to the bracing used on the back of the board. This motherboard is more rigid than others I've used which is awesome for those who want to hang a heavy aircooler on the CPU.

With six 4-pin fan connectors, two dedicated for CPU fans which is awesome for those of us running a 240mm radiator, you are able to seriously control the air flow via BIOS or the Windows environment AI3 suite software.

I read a couple of reviews where people said the SupremeFX Audio wasn't as loud as their prior Realtek chipped mobo's. I would tell them, please read the mobo manual. Once you install the software and set up the Audio properly, I have found it to be louder, clearer and cleaner than the Realtek chip on my prior EVGA 1366 Classified mobo.

Setting this board up for using the 256GB SSD I also purchased was a snap. I run the SSD as my boot drive and then, two WD Black 2TB drives and a Seagate 1TB drive. Also have two optical drives. Typically, when setting up a new mobo, you want a bare minimum connected during the OS install. With this board, I just installed everything and the UEFI BIOS had everything set correctly right off the bat.

Cons: Only one con. If using all four DDR3 Ram slots, overclocking my ram wasn't very successful. Just using two slots, I got a 10% bump when overclocking the ram independently of the CPU. However, with all four slots populated, I couldn't even get a 2% bump without getting a BSOD during the OS load. This is using G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1600 with 9-9-9-24 timings. The Ram will run at T1 even when all four slots are populated, so the inability to overclock is greatly mitigated by this and not worthy of dropping an egg over IMHO.

Other Thoughts: One of the easiest builds I've ever done. From first start up to booting into the installed OS was a scant 30 minutes.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board - little on the pricey side

Pros: -Looks amazing in my white NZXT Phantom case.
-Tonnes of features ie 7.1 audio, in-depth BIOS, easy as pie over-clocking and many more
-Well spaced PCI-E slots
-More than enough room for AIO Cooler installs (have H55 on my I5)

Cons: No E-SATA port and price is a little high, But i do not really care about E-SATA and i do not mind paying for such a sexy looking board. So for me this board is 5 Eggs.

Other Thoughts: All in all I absolutely am in love with this ROG board. It is leaps and bounds beyond the Maximum VI Hero IMO.
Oh, also i wanted to mention the M3 port that is on the board. I like the feature they went with instead of E-SATA but i still have not as of yet found a viable item for purchase for the slot. Way to expensive and not enough selection for me to put this to use yet.

3 out of 5 eggsBoard & Software

Pros: The board looks great. Couldn't have asked for a better board.

Cons: There are a few cons. Not with the board( besides the fact that I do not know if the ROG Logo LED's are supposed to turn off when the system is powered down or not. Same with the seperation LED and Supreme FX Logo, are they supposed to stay on all the time?). The software I am very disappointed with. Especially with the Game First III. I cannot get this software to work with my computer. Other software I am a little dissappointed with this the fan tuning software. I cannot get certain points with all my fans. Besides that, the biggest program I am having is with Game First. I cannot figure out to save my life to fix it either. I have downloaded all recommended software for it work. It says that my only through put is through the Antivirus software. I cannot monitor any programs. This was supposed to be semi-easy. So hence why I took off 2 eggs for software faults.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Motherboard

Pros: A very good and stable motherboard

A very good stable motherboard that's compatible with my Galaxy GTX 780 HOF edition and liquid cooling .

Cons: The placement of the CMOS battery makes it difficult to get to if you have a graphics card.

Other Thoughts: I now that Asus brand color is red but I would like some green options motherboards.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy Installation, great layout, lots of useful features and extras, compatibility

Cons: haven't found any

Other Thoughts: This is the third gaming pc I have built for myself, the first using an Asus board and gpu. I chose this board as I purchased an ROG 750JW laptop earlier this year and fell in love with the brand. I didn't have one problem with the build or setup. The realtek audio is just the worst (it came with my laptop as well), but it can be removed. The bios is extremely user friendly and aesthetically pleasing which was a pleasant surprise coming from an old evga z68 bios. Basically if you are looking for a powerful, user-friendly gaming board then this is a great choice.

1 out of 5 eggsWhat an unreal headache with the 4790

Pros: Nice clean board, seems like a good quality build.

Cons: I purchased the bundled deal offered with the 4790k CPU for this mobo. Hooked everything up and although I had power, I could not post. After 10 hours wasted troubleshooting I call support to find out you need to update the bios to work with the 4790k!!! Now it have to waste my time taking this somewhere to get it updated and then hope and pray nothing else is wrong.

Other Thoughts: Bundled deals are much more for the average consumer than the hardcore enthusiast. The fact newegg has a CPU bundled with this that won't work out of the box is just mind boggling.

1 out of 5 eggsI won't buy a motherboard online again.

Pros: Good board if you have a non defective one. Able to support next Intel processors coming around soon.

Cons: I received it from newegg and I didn't visually inspect the board for defects before trying to install. Now on an RMA I submitted, I received a email stating it was denied due to bent CPU pin. I know I didn't place the CPU in wrong or mishandled it because it works in my new board I picked up at local store. I was tired of playing the back and forth contact game when I wanted a working PC. It took me nearly 2 weeks to get everything together because of motherboard being bad and dealing with the "support" from both newegg and Asus. Now I'm out nearly 200 for a board I don't need or want again. I've read a lot of recent reviews where newegg claimed customer damage and I had no idea it would affect me. The 10% discount on next motherboard purchase is a joke. I'll never buy a board from newegg again and would rather just see it at store myself first. This is not my first time around the block building a PC.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't bother

Pros: It looks good, sensible layout, relatively simple bios layout

Cons: All of the rubbish Asus bundle with this board and there other boards - Namely AI Suite 3 and forcing you to use their UI's even though the dam chips are for instance Realtek

Other Thoughts: I used to own a Maximus V Extreme-Z

I have recently build a new rig around the Maximus VII Hero. The z68 board i had before used Realtek audio and used the Realtek audio interface within windows. This z97 board though uses SupremeFX which i believe is still a realtek chip but it uses the SupremeFX interface within windows which is where my problem is

I used to have a problem where my microphone from my Asus Vulcan headset sounded awful on skype and in game with my friends and they could always hear all of my game sounds back through the microphone

I had resolved this on the realtek interface with a particular configuration

Now i have upgraded and this board uses SupremeFX, i have exactly the same problem again and i can't figure out the SupremeFX interface to fix the issue. The settings don't save sometimes, my mic sounds awful and my friend can hear all of my game sounds once again

Also the volume is no where near as loud as it used to it with SupremeFX. I would LOVE to just go back to the realtek interface but it seems even if install the latest realtek driver from realtek, i am still forced to use the SupremeFX interface

I contacted asus support over this and they just fobbed me off, they didn't have a clue how to resolve the problem nor seemed interested in even attempting.

Asus Support is TERRIBLE.

2 out of 5 eggsExtremely picky board

Pros: The bios are extremely clean and the board looks amazing.

Cons: One thing that ASUS doesn't tell you is that the i7 4790 doesn't work with this board out of the box you have to upgrade the bios first. So if you are like me and didn't know that then you have to take your board somewhere to have them update your bios unless you have another processor that you can throw in your board. Also I have Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 memory and for some reason it will not run all 4 sticks (4 x 16) I got the board to run two of the sticks, but that leaves me with 8gigs instead of 16.

Other Thoughts: I had a gigabyte board before this one and it had some of the sata ports go out after a couple years....I wish i wouldve just bought the same exact board i had before. I can't believe the headache this thing has given me. If it says it runs the processor it should run it out of the box and i have never in my life not had memory be plug and play. I looked up their approved memory list and mine was on there with the only differenc being my model number had a b at the end of the number and it didnt have one in their approved list.
