5 out of 5 eggsASUS Maximus VII Hero

This review is from: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Gaming Motherboard

Pros: Can control fans through Corsair Link or software similiar or through a fan controller.

Cons: Bios might be hard to flash

Other Thoughts: In the manual it says to download the biod file and rename it M7H.CAP as it turns out. After reading on some forumns the manial is wrng only rename the bios file " M7H " then put it on a flash drive and power the board. Up then flash the bios I spent half a day trying to figure out why it would not flash thinking well maybe I have a defective motherboard. Other then that this is a great board and has 7.1 surround sound which is a great feature makes War Thunder and World of Warships that more realistic of sounds. The bios is very easy to read and understand it is not like the traditional blue bios screens it is a custom UEFI by ASUS and easy to navigate and find what. You would be looking for be it adjusting fan speed or processor and or RAM. I have 1866 MHZ Corsair Vengence Pro and the bios was using it at 1366 or the default of RAM. Manually change it to the speed you'rs is clocked at and you are good to go.

2 out of 5 eggsASUS ROG MAXIMUS VII HERO

This review is from: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Gaming Motherboard

Pros: As of this writing no prod because of saving for processor

Cons: Reason for 2 eggs I ordered a new ASUS MAXIMUS motherboard and received a used one or at least appears to be one because it had been opened before I got it and there was two part stickers on the box. Will see if it works when I get a processor which I will most likely purchase somewhere else

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that you received what to appear as a used motherboard even though you bought it brand new and the inconvenience it caused you. Please let me know if you run into any issues with your motherboard. 1 out of 5 eggsAvoid This Very Bad Board

This review is from: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Gaming Motherboard

Pros: How could there possibly be any pros. I purchased this board to custom build my roommate his very 1st non hand me down computer. Things initially installed ok, then, one part after another of the board died. Or half worked at the most.

Cons: Bad processor slot onboard, (causing horrendous video card problems (no signal) bad memory slots, it only wanted to take one memory card at a time. Continuous power cycling. Hit the power button, everything lit up, until you started watching it go to the sequences of posting.

I purchased this board, knowing I would be waiting to build it, so I didn't give away the surprise of the birthday gift. I had to do something. So, I went out and purchased the Z97_Pro Wi-Fi AC board.

Guess what, every single part that I had purchased for this computer worked completely as designed. Now I am stuck with what should have been an awesome board, that is going to have to either be replaced or repaired by ASUS.

Other Thoughts: I have ASUS motherboards all over my house, and I have built every last computer where I work. I have never experienced such a poor quality board.
ASUS you let me down.
If ALL of the components I purchased at the same time, work on the alternate board completely as designed, then we know it wasn't any of the other parts, not the power supply, not the memory, not the processor overheating. The ASUS Maximus VII Hero, according now to many many reviews is an aweful board.

So ASUS, are you going to replace it, with nothing less than the same board or higher, OR, are you going to repair it, without charging me shipping to send it back and forth. After all, it is solely the board, straight out of the box it was purchased brand new in.

Yeah, I purchased it early to make sure I didn't miss the newegg.com preferred account promotion, so all of the parts sat in their original boxes until it was time for the build.

This computer that I've built was by no means a cheap 50th birthday gift for my roommate, but what angers me, is the fact is was faulty from the time I had gotten it to begin with.

Now, I for the moment have ax expensive paper weight.

4 out of 5 eggsMAXIMUS VII HERO

This review is from: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Gaming Motherboard

Pros: UEFI is very intuitive
very easy to (OC)

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I ran in to a problem with trying to dual channel my ram. the 3rd and 4th dimm slots can not have a card in them or it will not post. It will give me a 55 code error

3 out of 5 eggsGood Board while it Lasted

This review is from: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Gaming Motherboard

Pros: It ran great, has good lighting and a nice led display. It glows red and has enough ports for all my stuff.

Cons: After 9 months, some of the ram slots on the motherboard went bad and the computer won't boot with ram in all 4 slots. I have moved the ram around and it appears to be related to the board instead of the ram. I remember on my last ASUS board where the network adapter went bad and when I tried to call them for support they wanted me to ship off the board and then wait some amount of time to get a new one. I liked my ASUS gtx 670 so I figured I would try another board from them, what is the odds I would get 2 boards that each didn't last a year.

Other Thoughts: They have great products when they work, but this is the 2nd mb I have bought from them and neither one made it a year without having an issue.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Derek,

I am sorry that your motherboard's RAM slots are defective and won't run on all 4 slots. Have you have tested one stick at a time and eliminated the possibly of a faulty stick? The worse case scenario is you submit an RMA and have your motherboard replaced at http://www.asus.com/us/support. ASUS offers 3 year warranty on our motherboards. If you need any further assistance, feel free to contact me at cl-justin@asus.com and I will help you to the best of my abilities. Your case # for reference is N150844887

2 out of 5 eggsStopped working after a month.

This review is from: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Gaming Motherboard

Pros: It worked great for the time It was working

Cons: My dad was on the internet not even loading the computer down when it turned off and would never turn back on. Power supply works so the only thing it could be is the mother board so I guess I'm sending this back to get another

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Robert,

I'm sorry to hear that your motherboard is no longer working. Are any of the lights still on? And what beep noise does it make when you try to turn it on? Please email me at cl-justin@asus.com and I will help you to the best of my abilities. Your case # for reference is N150716478. If you are convinced that it is faulty, you can submit an RMA and have your motherboard replaced at http://www.asus.com/us/support.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

This review is from: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Gaming Motherboard

Pros: Red LED lit board
2-digit LED code
On-board amp
Lots of fan headers
Well spaced PCIe slots so my video cards have extra room to breathe.
Lit start/reset buttons
Auto m,ax turbo mode (my 4790k runs at 4.4GHz by default)
Auto over clocks runs at 4.590GHz smoothly. Passes all benchmarks I run.
Temps under 70C with not so good H100 water cooler.

Cons: Sound was an issue getting to work, and sound quality is worse than before. I even added the Sound Blaster Drivers (X-Fi) with no improvement.

I didn't deduct any points for sound as sound isn't that bad and probably just needs simple adjusting.

USB 3.0 header shroud came off when unplugging the front USB connector. The pins are fine and the connector was reinstalled without issue. It didn't look like anything was holding it on but gravity.

Other Thoughts: Overall it is a nice board, but a little expensive. I bought it anyway as I wanted a ROG board and this was the cheapest. But in the long run it was a trouble free build, so I guess it was worth it.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent Board but has Problem

This review is from: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Gaming Motherboard

Pros: Board was an easy install . Works good with I4790K

Cons: Front Audio panel never worked at all,but I did install a Sound Blaster ZX to get around that. Just did not want to go to all the trouble to remove board and send it back. It is a shame quality control isn't any better for a board of this price range.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Thomas,

I am sorry that your front audio panel never worked and that inconvenience it may have caused you, since you had to a buy a sound card cause you did not want to send back your board. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at cl-justin@asus.com amd i will help you to the best of my abilities. Your case # for reference is N150809239
