This review is from: ASUS Z97M-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Pros: New Z97 chipset
Compatible for Hackintosh
Great BIOS support.
Cons: None really. everything went fine for win7, win 8, osx 10.9.4, and OS X 10.10.
Other Thoughts: Make sure you update the BIOS. You should for any motherboard. Also, make sure you reset the bios to factory defaults after upgrading BIOS to clear any old settings/configurations.
UEFI can be tricky to setup, but all manufacturers like to do things their way.
This review is from: ASUS Z97M-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Pros: Nice and clean design. Mobo seems to run cool the short time I had it working.
Cons: Almost DOA. Boots to BIOS. But Windows 7 install quits/resets 30 seconds into process. So does a Linux install CD. Eventually managed to make Linux work with kernel option "nolapic". That is not a solution, so I am returning the board. Trying a different brand.
Other Thoughts: Wished it had worked. My previous experience with ASUS was OK.
Manufacturer Response:

Pros: Install went smooth Good company Nice BIOS Great board overall, i really enjoyed using it.
Cons: THERE WERE NO SATA CABLES IN THE BOX!!!!!! I had to go nick some from a couple of spare computers. Big inconvenience considering there are supposed to be sata cables included
Other Thoughts: Its a wonderful board, im just very unhappy about the sata cables.
This review is from: ASUS Z97M-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Pros: This is a solid board with great features, but.....
Cons: IT CAME WITH THE MANUAL IN JAPANESE. Why on earth would you send the japanese version of the part to someone who is clearly in the US. I'm an Industrial Engineer, I know how easy it is to implement a different manual.
Other Thoughts: Had issues reinstalling OS on old SSD, but I'm sure if I could have read the manual it would have told me what settings I needed in order to adequately do such things.

This review is from: ASUS Z97M-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Pros: Lowest priced ASUS Z97 Motherboard at the time, and I wanted to use something that had some overclocking headroom for the Pentium G3258. It has the features and can clock that little CPU up to 4.5 no problem with just a multiplier adjustment.
Cons: The UEFI BIOS is a bit difficult to use. Could be streamlined for simplicity. Also, definitions of the functions should be improved.
Other Thoughts: It does the job, the build quality is good, and my wife can watch Netflix again.

This review is from: ASUS Z97M-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Pros: Compared to the z77 sabertooth this thing destroys the price point and has all the new features. Had no issues with my gpu and everything clicked firmly into place. Very sturdy.
Cons: Usb3.0 and chassis fan 1 pins are randomly in the middle of the board, took a while to find them and then I feared the gpu wouldn't fit. Thankfully all was well, but doesn't feel right having meltable wires touching my gpu and transistors like that. Although everything's fine.

This review is from: ASUS Z97M-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Pros: This board is solid. Has all the features I was looking for. Audio is clear and warm. It has a wonderful Bios Ui which I really think Asus has outdid themselves on. And it has some great overclocking features. I don't personally go for the auto overclocking cause I enjoy tinkering but I did see what it could do and I was really impressed. You would like this if you don't know much about overclocking cause the board can do a decent job of it for you just by simply clicking a button in the bios or from windows after installing the Ai suite that comes with the board.
I had been in another makers camp but I believe Asus will get my business in the future from now on. Give this board a try if your looking for one in this size and price range. I don't see how you can go wrong.
Rating: 4/5You might want to consider other models...

Pros: Cute GUI. You can even use a mouse! Excellent options for peripherals - I found it quite easy to adjust RAM and CPU clock speed, fan speeds and so forth. Onboard Audio is excellent
Cons: EFI support is completely pathetic. Okay, that sounds a little harsh. But I am not new to EFI management, so if you plan on messing around with Legacy and EFI loaders simultaneously, take my word: be careful.
By that I mean the only option you have to distinguish is "CSM" or, "Compatibility Security Mode," which is a fancy way of describing Legacy BIOS / EFI support. Why they have to use these stupid catch-phrases, I'm not sure. It is annoying. Also, it does not always seem to respect setting to "Legacy First" / Legacy Only mode. Perhaps my board was not functional?
Be careful! Two strange things happened while I was configuring this board ...
1) The ATAPI device, an optical drive, was recognized when reviewing SATA devices onboard. Originally, the device had one option to boot "legacy" and one to boot "UEFI". This is good. I was okay with this.
Now, I 'accidentally' (experimentally) removed the EFI entry for the optical drive using efibootmgr, on good faith that the motherboard would be able to re-populate the entry upon reboot. I am still unsure if this was a fundamental misunderstanding on my part, OR, bad firmware on behalf of Asus. Oh ****, the entry was gone forever, despite still showing up under SATA devices. Not only the EFI entry, but any chance at using my optical drive for a "legacy style" boot was gone forever. It really rustled my jimmies that the board could not populate even the most basic entry, legacy style, for an optical drive. (The optical device still functioned fine when booted into an OS, to clarify. This was strictly an issue with the motherboard.)
Reconnecting the device, or changing its SATA port, and clearing all settings made no effect: it would show up CD / DVD ROM (Legacy BIOS entry) but would not boot with EFI errors (this is why I suspect the motherboard was not respecting the "use Legacy Only" settings). On some reboots, I would only see it as "Unknown Device". Unknown Device? ARe you kidding me? This is a very standard optical drive! There are standards for this kind of stuff! I ought to write a mean letter! (Only joking.)
Anyways, moving forward: 2) I used Gummiboot to manage EFI entries. Ok, that's fine and all, what's my point? well, the motherboard would save additional "UEFI Operating System" entries -- it would populate randomly and didn't seem to serve any purpose. Gummiboot's EFI entry worked just fine...I still have no explanation for the random entries. They were cached in some way or another, because a hard reboot made them go away, as did clearing NVRAM. I didn't see this happen when I was using GRUB or Windows Boot Manager.
**Use the free software REFIND if you plan on dual-booting Linux and Windows. Trust me; It'll save you frustration.**
Other Thoughts: I want to take off more eggs, but I won't, because I know this motherboard would have probably been excellent with one stable installation of Windows 8.1. I put myself through bad times and I accept that. It's still got great hardware! But, unfortunately, the features are lacking.
if you need something that just *works* that can be overclocked easily for gaming on a budget then heck, get this board, by all means!
I used the following parts with this board, -Intel Core i7-4790K Haswell Quad-Core 4.0GHz LGA 1150 Desktop Processor BX80646I74790K -Thermaltake Toughpower TPD-0750M - WD Purple WD20PURX 2TB SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 8GB (2 x 4GB) CMY8GX3M2A1600C9A -ASUS R7250X-2GD5 Radeon R7 250X 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card
As a note on the RAM, only CMY8GX3M2A1600C9 is listed on the compatibility chart, not CMY8GX3M2A1600C9A. I had to manually clock the RAM to 1600 (it read it has 1333 probably because of the slight difference in compatibility) but no big deal, for it seemed to take the change without any fires starting or what not.
Also, gold. I love gold and black. Even though this motherboard made me want to strangle someone, it is definitely pretty.
