5 out of 5 eggsJust what I needed.

Pros: Great features via the BIOS and the in OS adjustments and auto-tuning for the fans.
Great build quality.

Cons: More expensive than other boards that claim to be of a similar build with similar feature sets.

Other Thoughts: I have built many units over the years and by far my favorite boards have been ASUS boards. They have always been solid with their performance and I have yet to have any issue with any of them, even after many years of use.

I chose this board over less expensive boards that claimed to have similar feature sets and similar build quality because of my previous experiences with ASUS boards. I am not disappointed in the slightest to have paid more for this board. It has preformed without any issue and has plenty of room for any future expansions I may need.

The OC features, while not as good as in some of the more expensive boards, are more than adequate for what I will be doing. Took about 10 seconds to bump up the 4970K and 16GB of 1866 I got to go with this board. Without any real effort on my part the system was running stable at 4.6GHz and 2133MHz.

I really like the in OS fan tuning. After running the auto-tune, temperatures measured on the board are 5-10 degrees cooler depending on load and the fans rarely kick on above low setting (and my office is usually 75 F and above).

All in all a great board that should last as long as I need it to.

5 out of 5 eggsReview revisted..

Pros: Looks good quality, clean simple layout. Plenty of options, maybe too many for novices but still nice and interface allows easy customizing. My first review was 2 eggs because first board only posted 1 time and had troubleshooting issues. RMA & Received second board and had similar shutdown/post issues but it worked for almost an hour effortlessly. Pretty sure at this point since I've tested everything; that I have a faulty PSU and RMA'ing directly with manufacturer. I just felt I should give good praise for the board since I do like it personally and see it will do very well once I iron out my power issues since I ruled out all other components thru testing.

Cons: None I can think of for me.

Other Thoughts: Plenty enough well made and capable of handling a more than powerhouse of a computer for todays needs.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat motherboard

Pros: Fast SATA ; I paired this with Intel 730 SSD and loaded the RST (includes the AHCPI controller driver - load this even if you don't use RAID to get latest AHCPI) from the CD; great BIOS; great with Haswel i5, using stock cpu fan and mb & stays cool although I do not do gaming.

Cons: the ASUS CD doesn't allow autorun for W2008R2 which I use; I had to dig into drivers folder to find the Intel setup files which do support W2008R2 and loaded the drivers; works fine. I had done a bare metal backup of W2008R2 from old system and recovered to the new SSD and motherboard; worked fine after loading new drivers.

Other Thoughts: Good info in the Intel folder after loading the RST (Rapid Storage Tech) about how to optimize SSD and other hard drives. I had to put Bios update on thumb drive as only file and rename it to get the BIOS update to work. had to take plastic off of 2 heat shields (Thx to other poster here for pointing this out - clear plastic is hard to see)

2 out of 5 eggsDont know yet...

Pros: Looks great, build quality seems promising that's where it ended for me.

Cons: Board Posted 1 time maybe lasted 10min while I was browsing the new BIOS layout than screen went blank and never posted again. Never even got to set the date in the BIOS...lol. Just flashing CPU & DRAM LED alternating continuously. Updated to latest BIOS, checked plugs, tried different memory configurations, tried different brand confirmed working memory. reseated CPU. Always powers up..fans..leds but no post just flashing CPU & DRAM LED. RMA'ing now. MemOK button does nothing but resets board and still flashing LED's.

5 out of 5 eggsNice motherboard

Pros: Lots of 3-pin fan connections (just don't use the assistant fan ports unless the fan really is an assistant fan) and lots of SATA connectors -the ones that plug in parallel to the plane of the board are interesting.

Cons: I like the AI Suite 3 software but using the fan auto-tuning caused my CPU fan to run too slowly and overheated my system (bsod and immediate reset). Don't trust the auto-tuning.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you have enough standoffs to mount this board. It takes 9. Also, I didn't realize that my old mobo wasn't "full size" so when I pulled this out of the box it seemed huge. It fit just fine in my Antec ninehundred case though. Make sure you remove the plastic film from the heat shields and such. I found two films that needed to be removed.

I'm uncertain that the included software is updating my BIOS drivers or other drivers properly. The BIOS updated to a more recent date but not the most recent date (version) on the ASUS website. The intel updater software doesn't seem like it's finding anything?

2 out of 5 eggsOK, just no video from motherboard

Pros: Board works mostly as expected. Fortunately, I have a video card available.

Cons: No video from either the HDMI or DisplayPort on the motherboard. Can't find documentation on the board!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello DJ,

I am sorry to hear that you experienced issues with your motherboard's display. Perhaps one of the UEFI settings is incorrect such as auto detection of a port in use for display. I have provided a link for the manual(digital) below for your convenience as well. If you would like to discuss this case further, please contact me through email and include your reference number within the subject line. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you had tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you. Cs#N141229938

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome MB

Pros: Price
Performance
Intuitive bios interface

Cons: I bought a 16gb Corsair RAM kit & only 8gb was showing up in windows, & the full 16 in bios. After weeks of research I stumbled upon a post back in 2012 in some forum about Corsair RAM. Corsair said to up the voltage on the memory so I did & voila, 16gb RAM!

Other Thoughts: Really can't beat the price for a z97 board! Everything's basically the same on this board compared to the Mark 1, besides the extra heat shields & the extra hundred bucks...

5 out of 5 eggsAuto Tune problems

Pros: It comes with a five year warranty. It is has a decent bios setup for overclocking. Easy to install points for your power connectors. Love this board so far.

Cons: Do not use the auto tuning feature it blue screened my computer. No other problems configuring my GTX 970 and Corsair Vengeance 4gb ram sticks in all slots worked perfectly. Did have a DOA board but that was because during shipping the little black plastic thing protecting the cpu pins came undone and bounced around the box. The auto tuning feature is the only thing I think people should be aware of before buying this mother board, I will take an egg away from it because the fact that it blue screened my computer!

5 out of 5 eggsComing from a dead board this thing is great!

Pros: Well the first board I bought was a gigabyte board around 100 dollars and to be honest I got what I paid for. Though i didin't expect the board to come in dead and non functioning. Besides that I tried to go with another brand that being ASUS...One of the best decisions I've ever made! Man I just love this board, all the features it has and the heatsinks and it just looks sweet! When putting my computer together I didn't really run into any problems just plug in and play. The board recognized everything. The windows installation was the quickest I've ever seen! It lasted only about 10-15 minutes. Good thing I got an SSD. All in all this is a really great board with superb quality and if you're wondering about getting this board don't hesitate buy it now!

Cons: None at all! I'm a very happy customer now with ASUS!!

Other Thoughts: My pc specs:
Intel i5 4690k
ASUS SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK2 motherboard
Radeon HD 7950 (will upgrade to a GTX 970 soon)
G. skill 1600mhz 16 gig ram
128 gig ssd
1tb hard drive
620w sea sonic psu

5 out of 5 eggssabertooth z97 Mark 2

Pros: Did a new build with corsair vengeance 8gb (2x4GB) memory and i&-4970k process without any issues. Just had to flash the bios to latest version which was very easy to do. Plug in usb in the back and press the bios button. Great board!

Cons: none
