1 out of 5 eggsBad Board, Can't RMA

Pros: Asus has been good to me in the past.

Cons: Unfortunately, this Asus board is not been good to me. Get random freezing after setting up system and Windows install. Eliminate all hardware but mobo as the problem, but this takes me several months and taking it into a professional since I have very little time to do this work - a weekend here or there.

Ultimately realize I have to RMA the board. Try to enter the serial number on the Asus Techsupport website, but the form doesn't take the number I enter. Try all combinations in case I'm mistaking letters for numbers. Try the other number on the board (there are two bar codes with numbers). That one doesn't work either. Can't RMA with Asus.

Try to RMA with Newegg but the 30 day time limit is expired. So looks like I can't RMA this board at all. I'm out 170 bucks and been without a machine since February. Pure suckage all around. 1 egg all the way here.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Board, Lacks some features

Pros: Very solid build quality/construction. High quality PCB and onboard components
Five Year Warranty
Plenty of USB ports (8 on the rear, along with 2x USB 3.0 front panel headers and 2x USB 2.0 onboard headers
Has a solid looking style about it

Cons: No M2 port, which is standard on most Z97 boards
Only 6x SATA3 ports
Bottom PCI-E x16 (4x) slot shared with onboard USB 3.0
No Diagnostic LED's or on-board power buttons
Price vs. Other Models with more features

Other Thoughts: This is an excellent board for your average user or overclocker who wants a solidly built board without many frills. This board doesn't have LED's or pronounced features like the ROG series. It's lacking an M2 slot. There's only six SATA3 ports. The best way to sum up this board is: high quality with minimalist features. The features omitted from this board are generally going to be useless to your average user. For example, the ROG series use special audio capacitors, while this board uses standard capacitors. Your average person will never notice. This board doesn't have crazy LED's or gamer-centric features, but again, these features only appeal to certain users. This board is built very well and feels and looks solid. It runs very cool and allows my I7 4790K to run at 4.7GHZ with 1.250v. The VRM's stay cool and the board has never crashed. It's certified for 1866MHZ RAM, but I have my Corsair 1866 running at 2000MHZ, so there's definite OC potential with this board. My MSI Z77 board with 3770K couldn't run the same RAM above 1866, so I am very happy that the Sabertooth opened up some overclocking potential, though the I7 4790K may be responsible for some of this as well, as it has a more capable memory controller than the previous-gen 3770K.

If you don't need a bunch of extra features or M2 and want a solid board with a great layout that will allow for great overclocking capability, look no further. There are other boards out there with more features for less cash, but you'll be giving up the warranty and general high build quality of the TUF series.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for 2 months

Pros: Good price

Cons: Only worked for 2 months
Terrible customer support
Warranty process is an infinite loop

Other Thoughts: Had this motherboard for 2 months and it stopped working. Sent the motherboard to Asus for repair. THey sent it back 1 month later. It worked for 10 seconds and then stopped working again. They offered advanced replacement where I let them hold $250 and they ship me another board. It has been 2 weeks. They have not sent me another board. Every time I call them, the story changes and they have no idea what is going on. Now I have a defective motherboard, it has been almost 2 months, and this 5 year warranty is not benefiting me in any way. This is useless. I might as well have just set that $160 I spent on this motherboard on fire.

5 out of 5 eggsFew months later...Very Happy!!

Pros: Nice quality, solid. More than enough features. Runs very well for me.

Cons: None, just know what your doing
I was in the same annoyed boat as a lot of you until I figured my issue out.

Other Thoughts: Had previously left a 2 star review than 5 star for thinking I had bad PSU. Basically, like a lot of people I had issues at first and doubted the board BUT it was me, not the product. It's just very finicky and you MUST step by step troubleshoot properly. I RMA'd my 1st board thinking it was faulty after checking CPU, MEM, PSU, BIOS update and many trial and errors.

In the end all that was wrong was my trusty old Antec case from 2003 I had used over and over again had a faulty "Reset" button switch. So as long as the header was plugged in, it kept cycling through the dreaded CPU & DRAM error Red LED's. took me forever to figure it out until I built it outside of the case and went step by step down the line troubleshooting. I'm sure the 1st board I RMA'd was just fine since I had similar results prior to me figuring it out.

End the end I purchased and upgraded to a nice bad a-s-s Cooler Master case and never looked back with issues. Been rock solid overclocked since & cool.

1 out of 5 eggsWon't use ASUS again

Pros: If it had worked I might have a given it a good review

Cons: Motherboard was DOA. A memory error would not let the board go past that point. All other hardware was verified on other equipment. It was passed the 30 day New Egg return date. Called ASUS several times and waited, I finally got a technician to answer my call but it was beyond her scope. Another technician was to call, waited over a week no call, went online and found a automated RMA page and was given an RMA number and shipped it back. I packaged it up and found after re-reading shipping instructions a pin shield needed to be put in place. I placed it as per the instructions and shipped it back. I received an email saying the pins were bent and it would cost me $180 plus shipping.
If they didn't build it right the first time, why would I trust them to fix it right a second time

Other Thoughts: I have built many computers with ASUS before, but NO MORE

1 out of 5 eggsCan't keep it cool, customer service nonexistant

Pros: Looks good. Not entirely flimsy. Included matching SATA cables. Lots of fan headers.

Cons: Northbridge won't cool off. Idles at 60C no matter how much air I direct at it. The on-board probe for "vcore" and "vcore back" read out temps of 60C and 50C at idle, respectively. This is without overclocking in a well-cooled case (Corsair obsidian 450D with a full set of high-flow fans). I contacted ASUS customer service twice through two different mediums, with no response after a week. A 5 year warranty is worthless if you can't contact the company. :(

5 out of 5 eggsEasy setup, no quirks so far

Pros: Easy setup. Had no problems setting up Win 8.1 64 Pro with this config.

Cons: Wish it had 3 internal USB 2.0 headers. Case needed one, H100i needed one, and PS needed one (latter two only required for Corsair software utility to report temps, power draw, etc.). Had to buy an additional controller for this.

Other Thoughts: Works fine for me with all of the following, which I purchased when I purchased this. This is in a Fractal Design R5 case. Only nit I have so far is that I ran short one USB2.0 header so I had to buy a separate NZXT controller (needed three headers).

4 out of 5 eggsSolid board for water cooling

Pros: Price is decent
Layout is very good, nothing is blocked by video cards.
Runs cool when under loads.
Great warranty.

Cons: Mouse and Keyboard dead issue, don't RMA the board. Other reviews talk about the mouse and keyboard becoming unresponsive. This happens when you start adding or swapping SATA devices and the default USB boot mode is set to quick boot for quick initialization of USB for faster boots. I had this issue with the board where the mouse and keyboard was dead on start up. I simply pulled the battery and cleared CMOS and it fixed the issue. Also setting the BIOS to initialize all USB ports on boot will keep this from happening again.

No M.2 or 10GBs SATA
No advanced Audio or gaming specific LAN

Other Thoughts: pull the CMOS battery for a few mins to resolve most initialization issues. Haven't tried the SLI yet so cant comment.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Board for the Money, some warts.

Pros: Lots of fan headers, like ridiculous amounts of fan headers. Combined with the AI suite software you will have complete control of your cooling within your computer. Board is incredibly rigid showing that is is well made and the 5 year warranty is well above the industry average. Most everything is well laid out on the board with one notable exception.

Cons: Price is a bit high for a z97 board without sata express and m.2 connections. Comparable feature wise this board is roughly 20 - 30% more. Obviously this extra cost is a result of the warranty and the general ruggedness of the board, but it is worth noting.

The biggest con of all is the parallel to the board USB 3 header. In some cases this a non issue but in cases that have access holes for cable management you really have to bend the USB 3 cable to the point I was seriously worried about the status of my front USB post build. fortunately it worked, but i'm already trying to think of ways to move the cable to relieve the strain on it.

Other Thoughts: I've only bought ASUS motherboards for myself. I've used other boards for friends and family builds, some were pretty nice, but I always come back to ASUS for my builds. This one was as expected. Well built and I already know how good ASUS warranty policy is.
