5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works great, nice looking bios, ASUS ftw, gg ez.

Cons: When I received the mobo the socket cover was loose in its packaging. After further inspection I noticed that one of the pins in the cpu socket was bent. With a little skill and patience I was able to coerce the pin back into place.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus Sabertooth z97

Pros: Fits my color scheme and was easy to use and to install. Very nice looking bios and was easy to use. The board came in nice packaging and in a nice box.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you want to build a military color scheme but don't have money to buy a mark 1, than this is the board to buy.

1 out of 5 eggsvideo dead

Pros: Well laid out motherboard

Cons: The video ports were both dead. Machine apparently posts just fine without any warning "beeps" but the the Display Port and the HDMI port show no connection on two monitors and one TV using several different, known to be good cables.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Dennis,

I am sorry that your motherboard's video ports are dead. How long have you had this board for and is it still within Newegg’s return policy? If so, you can return it and get a replacement. If you happen to be outside the return policy, you can submit an RMA and have it replaced at http://www.asus.com/us/support. ASUS offers 3 year warranty on our motherboards. For further assistance, you can contact me at cl-justin@asus.com and use case number: N150713951 and I will do my best to help you with your problem.

Thanks for choosing ASUS

Justin

5 out of 5 eggsLove the camo

Pros: Works great.

Cons: I think one of the drivers on the cd asus gives with the card was cause issues with windows 8.1. The only driver I used off the cd was the NIC driver and now it works fine.

4 out of 5 eggsRJ45 Jack annoying

Pros: Great value, all around very impressive piece.

Cons: RJ45 jack will not allow any plugs to lock in. I thought it was the face plate but its not.

Other Thoughts: The system is a fairly crucial part of an install and I can't justify ripping the whole thing apart for that.

2 out of 5 eggsAudio Dead

Pros: Simple, supposedly designed for reliability. Simple automated overclocking.

Cons: Analog audio output never worked (audio input hasn't been tried). Neither front panel nor back panel audio ports produce more than a slight hiss when audio is played, including system sounds. However, audio is present on the Display Port.

Other Thoughts: Evidently Asus doesn't test even its high-reliability products well.
Asus only offers refurbished motherboards in exchange, so even higher defect rates can be expected.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Board, Can't RMA

Pros: Asus has been good to me in the past.

Cons: Unfortunately, this Asus board is not been good to me. Get random freezing after setting up system and Windows install. Eliminate all hardware but mobo as the problem, but this takes me several months and taking it into a professional since I have very little time to do this work - a weekend here or there.

Ultimately realize I have to RMA the board. Try to enter the serial number on the Asus Techsupport website, but the form doesn't take the number I enter. Try all combinations in case I'm mistaking letters for numbers. Try the other number on the board (there are two bar codes with numbers). That one doesn't work either. Can't RMA with Asus.

Try to RMA with Newegg but the 30 day time limit is expired. So looks like I can't RMA this board at all. I'm out 170 bucks and been without a machine since February. Pure suckage all around. 1 egg all the way here.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Board, Lacks some features

Pros: Very solid build quality/construction. High quality PCB and onboard components
Five Year Warranty
Plenty of USB ports (8 on the rear, along with 2x USB 3.0 front panel headers and 2x USB 2.0 onboard headers
Has a solid looking style about it

Cons: No M2 port, which is standard on most Z97 boards
Only 6x SATA3 ports
Bottom PCI-E x16 (4x) slot shared with onboard USB 3.0
No Diagnostic LED's or on-board power buttons
Price vs. Other Models with more features

Other Thoughts: This is an excellent board for your average user or overclocker who wants a solidly built board without many frills. This board doesn't have LED's or pronounced features like the ROG series. It's lacking an M2 slot. There's only six SATA3 ports. The best way to sum up this board is: high quality with minimalist features. The features omitted from this board are generally going to be useless to your average user. For example, the ROG series use special audio capacitors, while this board uses standard capacitors. Your average person will never notice. This board doesn't have crazy LED's or gamer-centric features, but again, these features only appeal to certain users. This board is built very well and feels and looks solid. It runs very cool and allows my I7 4790K to run at 4.7GHZ with 1.250v. The VRM's stay cool and the board has never crashed. It's certified for 1866MHZ RAM, but I have my Corsair 1866 running at 2000MHZ, so there's definite OC potential with this board. My MSI Z77 board with 3770K couldn't run the same RAM above 1866, so I am very happy that the Sabertooth opened up some overclocking potential, though the I7 4790K may be responsible for some of this as well, as it has a more capable memory controller than the previous-gen 3770K.

If you don't need a bunch of extra features or M2 and want a solid board with a great layout that will allow for great overclocking capability, look no further. There are other boards out there with more features for less cash, but you'll be giving up the warranty and general high build quality of the TUF series.
