This motherboard is powered by an AMD A88X FCH (Bolton D4), and accommodates the latest AMD FM2+/FM2 APUs that integrate the powerful Radeon HD Series Graphics. This means you'll enjoy discrete-class graphics acceleration in your games and daily applications, without the cost or power consumption of an actual discrete video card.

This motherboard is built with an array of Asus features that make it stand out immediately. Asus 5X Protection provides all-round protection to achieve the best reliability and durability. The new UEFI BIOS makes system setting and tuning friendlier, easier and more intuitive. The EPU optimizes power consumption by automatically detecting the CPU loading level, and the Fan Xpert helps your system achieve the perfect balance between cooling and noise with dedicated CPU and case fan controls.  This motherboard also natively supports USB 3.0 and SATA III for you to get the best performance from your devices.

  • newegg AMD A-series Accelerated Processor This motherboard fully supports the latest AMD Socket FM2+ Kaveri APUs with AMD Radeon R series graphics and retains compatibility with AMD Socket FM2 (Richland and Trinity) APUs. AMD Socket FM2+ APUs support Microsoft DirectX 11.1 for incredibly fast and smooth graphics, native PCI Express 3.0 for full-speed expansion, and 4K resolutions via HDMI and DisplayPort connections.
  • newegg 5X Protection Asus motherboards guard your PC with 5X Protection. This motherboard uses quality components like DIGI+ VRM digital power design for precise APU power on demand, ESD units tested to strict standards that eliminate electrostatic interference, and resettable fuses around the DRAM slots to prevent overcurrent and short-circuit damage. Corrosion-resistant back I/O shields are also adopted, providing the best possible reliability and durability.
  • newegg New UEFI BIOS The media-renowned UEFI BIOS from Asus provides the smoothest mouse-controlled graphical BIOS, and now features more intuitive functions to quickly take you to favorite BIOS pages and frequently accessed settings through custom shortcuts. You can even write quick notes in-BIOS for future reference, view an activity log of setting changes and modifications, and rename SATA ports. EZ Mode has a whole new look, upgraded with extra-friendly capabilities like detailed fan controls, D.O.C.P profile settings, SATA information, and fast clock adjustment. Together, these perfect your BIOS experience.
  • newegg EPU Tap into the world's first real-time PC power-saving chip through the AI Suite 3 utility. Get total system-wide energy optimization by automatically detecting current PC loadings and intelligently moderating the power consumption. It can manually switch to Away Mode, so that you can download and stream content or backup data when away from your PC, which minimizes the power draw to save money and creates a more efficient PC.
  • newegg SATA III and USB 3.0 with UASP Support Asus provides SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports with enhanced scalability, faster data retrieval, and double the bandwidth of SATA 3Gb/s. The USB 3.0 offers blistering fast connectivity with speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0. Asus USB 3.0 Boost technology supports UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol) in Windows 8. With USB 3.0 Boost technology, a USB device's transmission speed is significantly increased up to 170%, adding to already fast USB 3.0 performance. Asus software automatically accelerates data rates for compatible USB 3.0 peripherals without any user interaction.
  • newegg AI Suite 3 Asus AI Suite 3 offers a brand-new user experience through a clearer and more attractive interface with support for larger monitors. It consolidates all exclusive Asus features into one simple-to-use package, allowing you to supervise overclocking, energy consumption, fan speeds, voltages, and more. This all-in-one app offers diverse and easy to use functionality, with no need to switch back and forth between different utilities.

3 out of 5 eggsBios problem with AMD X4 860K

Pros: This motherboard is a good value and works well now. I checked that the AMD X4 860K processor was supported by this motherboard prior to purchasing both.

Cons: The motherboard shipped with bios version 307. The oldest downloadable bios Asus has for this board is version 401 from April 2014. The latest, and the one you will need to run the AMD X4 860K is bios 1006 published 12/15/2014 on the Asus site. Without this bios the motherboard will not post and you will not be able to update the bios. Unfortunately, you will not be able to flash the motherboard without another processor that will post.

Other Thoughts: For me, this cost 5 hours of research to determine which part was not working and purchasing another AMD processor to get this motherboard to post (i.e. boot to the bios screen) so that I could flash it. Prior to this, no video, no beeps, just power and fans worked. Once flashed, I swapped in the AMD X4 860K and it works great.

1 out of 5 eggsSkip this one

Pros: Nothing if it don't boot. The only good thing is getting the rebate quickly.

Cons: Worked for a month then won't post. Tried new RAM, new Power, reset cpu, bios, graphics etc etc. Then to top it off ASUS site has forms for RMA case and RMA request, and after filling them out I get a dozen connection failed messages. That's enough the chuck the brand and get something else.

Other Thoughts: This experience of POOR service permanently keeps me away from ASUS.

5 out of 5 eggsNice budget motherboard

Pros: Very easy to install. Matched all of my existing components. Works great with Windows 7 Pro x64. Drivers were easy to install.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Would recommend this motherboard to others needing a budget build.

4 out of 5 eggs4th Asus Motherboard

Pros: Extensive BIOS options. Asus is active in updating the BIOS.

Cons: CD software outdated. Only 2 fan headers. Could use a few more USB ports.

Other Thoughts: After downloading the latest chipset driver from Asus everything works fine. Installing it off the CD gave me failed USB3 ports and quirky PCI slot. The PCI slot would beep around 7 times at POST with 2 different USB 2 expansion cards. Then it booted with a PCI IDE card. Took that out and updated the chipset driver and the USB2 card now works.
The only complaint is there are 2 fan headers, one for CPU and one for case. Onboard USB ports are severely limited.
The BIOS page is huge, plus Asus has system utility for even more settings. It was hard to flash the BIOS because I could not find the EZ Flash, turns out it's on the BIOS page, not the CD or utility. I got it done using a bootable thumb drive with DOS.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked twice

Pros: Everything is clearly labelled, works well.

Cons: Died after the 3rd boot up. Refuses to turn on at all, regardless of memory or PSU used.

5 out of 5 eggsSurprisingly Good, Tiny mATX MoBo

Pros: > So tiny for mATX!
> Very Fast with right APU (benched very close to my A88XM Gaming - impressive!)
> Can "Optimize" very well! (hard to use "overclock" here)
> Vertical & Horizontal SATA ports (Asus listens!)
> Latest firmware produced wonderful stability - Must!
> Wonderfully low cost for the results achieved
> WinBench showed 7.4, 7.5, 6.9, 6.9, 8.1 Very Nice!
> Completely Stable during extensive Windows & Linux benchmarks!
> Built to be durable & long lived if you keep it reasonably cool...
> Going to have to integrate on of these into furniture just for fun...

Cons: < None, save maybe the wish for one more fan header (the two it has are fine...)
< Not very sexy at all compared to the MSI A88XM Gaming as example...
<Asus new "urine" color scheme is just Not sexy... :(

Other Thoughts: I still can not bring myself to embrace the mITX formfactor but this little gem is nearly as small with nearly all the performance of it's bigger, more expensive, sexier brethren...

Asus really needs to rethink this new color scheme...

5 out of 5 eggsSolid mobo.

Pros: - Compact, easy-ish to work with (see other thoughts).
- Screw holes lined up perfectly with case (see other thoughts)
- Has only 2 fan ports, one for CPU, and one casefan. Not worth an egg by any means as it is an ATX Micro, just something to be aware of.
- Good workplace mobo. You may want a little more for a gaming rig or a workstation though.

Cons: - Not really a con, but you may want a bigger board for gaming or heavier use situations.(see other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: I'm used to working with larger mobos, so I may be a little spoiled as far as room to work goes, but this wasn't too bad.

I've had issues with other Micro mobos not lining up properly with cases. I can't blame either mobo or case, so I won't take an egg from anyone, but there still seems to be an issue from time to time.

All told, this is a pretty standard mobo that matches its price tag. No regrets buying this for a smaller workplace build.

For gaming or intense workstation usage, you may want something a little beefier with a few more connectors for fans, sata etc... but thats not worth an egg, it is an ATX Micro after all.
