3 out of 5 eggsQuestionable MB

Pros: Asus ROG has nice looking board well laid out with easy to identify connectors. pretty straight 3 ROG MB I've owned..

Cons: looks to be a dud.. have spent the last 4 weeks trying to get the board past POST,died just past DRAM on Q-LED's tried every thing possible Zero support from ASUS.. too far away to RMA it back..(Africa)..
now have reordered another board and different memory..
at work in africa so will have to wait another 2 weeks to get it running.. Techforumsupport have been the only help found.. good bunch of people. packing is light..

5 out of 5 eggsLove this motherboard

Pros: amazingly full-featured for a micro ATX board. love the BIOS it gives you tons of tuning control and if you happen to pick, let's just say, "less than optimal" settings there are fail safes in the board so less experienced overclockers (like myself) can really learn a thing or two by studying the different settings and how it affects everything. and let's not forget the amazing color scheme with black PCB that asus is known for putting on it's high end boards; looks so awesome

Cons: I have none, as someone building his first PC rig solo, I was able to set everything up super easy, and it worked no problems

Other Thoughts: I absolutely adore this board :D it is in my BitFenix Prodigy M case and it is just awesome, this thing is absolutely perfect for gaming oriented rigs, and of course looks very cool.

3 out of 5 eggsExcellent but.....

Pros: The board is a quality board. Tons of features and options but has a small footprint. It is a ROG board so it is of course awesome.

Cons: Memory channel B does not function at all. Q code 55. I am awaiting my new board just sent this one back.

Other Thoughts: I love anything amd everything ROG. This is my 10th custom build in 14 years and the last 4 in a row were all built on ROG boards and this is the 2nd one Ive had to RMA. I do expect a little higher level of QC on these boards but i do understand that stuff happens. Hopefully the new noard goes in without a problem.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you. Cs#N140711668

3 out of 5 eggsIt died in 30 minutes :/

Pros: This thing is crazy with all of its features. The Bios is amazing and i love it. Fan Expert is really great and gamefirst 3 is a dream. Impact II audio blew my mind (i had music pumping through to test sound and it was amazing. The finest motherboard out there for micro atx. Simple as that

Cons: I got everything working, OS, drivers, internet, everything.
Plugged in all my front panel stuff and when i went to boot up again, i was met with a red cpu light, black screen and no q code. I checked everything and made sure that nothing broke and nothing did. I tried re installing the cpu, unplugging power supply cables and plugging back in, clearing the cmos, everything you could think of i did it. It doesnt boot into the bios anymore. Usb ports arent working either so BIOS flash back isnt possible. I called newegg and theyre doing an RMA for me (which is awesome) so im awaiting a working version of this motherboard when it gets here.

Other Thoughts: The little time i had it running was the best experience in my life when building and setting up PC's. I'll update the rating when i get it back. Its a great motherboard and just because mine was faulty doesnt mean yours will be. It''s ROG and i dont expect this to happen again.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid and fast

Pros: My second ASUS board. Impressed with both. (P9X79Asus WS is first)
Installed easily into the case, all components installed easy.
Booted up first try without issues.
Already familiar with ASUS UEFI bios so it was a breeze to setup Raid 0 on two 250 GB SSD.
Many features that I like on this board. All case and CPU fan headers are PWM capable. Voltage test points, buttons onboard for Start, Reset and CLR COMOS. LED BIOS status indicator. Onboard HDD LED and much more. Seems to be up to ASUS quality standards. Flashed the BIOS on second day. Couldn't be easier. Very happy with this board.
Black case, black board with red accents, black Corsair fans with red accents makes a very nice look

Cons: Sticky No-Rinse flux residue on back of board.
SATA ports are backwards. Typically they go from right to left, 0 to 5. This board goes left to right. 5 - 0 in Intel sockets then two ASMedia sockets.
Separate Sound card is a pain and sets very close to 1st PCI slot.
Had everything running great and already updating my Windows when the board quit and would not reboot. Went into a reboot cycle, rebooting before it would get to BIOS logo. Cleared CMOS twice, removed all cards and memory. Finally it stopped doing it for some reason. (wasn't tied to anything I did as far as I can tell) Installed all drives, cards and memory. Booted as normal.
Nitpicking but the back panel is not the best. Too thick and too glossy. Hard to read even with a flashlight.

Other Thoughts: Build:
Caselabs Mercury S3
i7 4770K
2x Nvidia GTX780Ti
32gb HyperX
2x 250 Samsung SSD in Raid0
1x WD Red 2gb data drive
Air cooled for now, going watercooled soon. Waiting on GTX780ti backplates to come back in stock.

5 out of 5 eggsA quality product

Pros: I ordered this because I currently have a Maximus V Gene Ivy Bridge motherboard in my every day machine with an i5 3570K. The funny thing is I do very little gaming with this computer although I have an ASUS 650 ti Boost video card. Mainly I use the video card because I need a dual link DVI connector for my 2560 X 1440 monitor.
I just like this board. It makes me happy because it’s so high end. It’s like a piece of art even though it’s hidden in a case under my desk. It’s always worked flawlessly like all my ASUS boards and I expect the Maximus VII to do the same.
I just got it today and I’m running it with a Haswell i7 4770k processor and 8 gigs of Corsair memory. I can say like the other board it’s a Cadillac or maybe a Mercedes. It’s like a piece of jewelry and I know I could get similar function from a much cheaper board but it’s just nice knowing you have the best. It started up the first time after installing and everything worked. I’m using the drivers from the DVD and they installed with no problems. Like most ASUS boards it just worked.

Cons: One complaint. I have a small T42 M.2 SSD that I’ve been using in a Lenovo laptop. I planned to put it into the ASUS Maximus VII Gene but it’s too short to fit. T60 & T80 are apparently OK however. So I used a regular SSD. I will buy a longer M.2 later on when I can afford it to check out the faster speeds offered.
Also can’t say I’m partial to the audio daughterboard. It seems to work fine but the conns that stick out the back are black and I had the devil’s own time hooking up my 5.1 speaker system. I’m still not sure it’s correct. But that’s just the luddite in me I suppose. I guess that makes 2 complaints.

Other Thoughts: This is an expensive board but I’m funny about liking quality things. It’s well built, heavy and just beautiful. I’ve played a couple of games and speed wise it’s the same as the Gene V and that’s with an i7 processor. Of course these Intel boxes are so fast why mess around with overclocking. The AI suite does it all with no problems, overclocking and setting the fan speeds. After I get one of the new Haswell refreshed processors then I’ll start fine tuning and I can report back with specific speeds and features. It’s just too new now. It’s just enough to know it’s humming along perfectly. It does everything I ask quickly and I can’t hear a thing. I like that.
For the sake of clarification I don’t work for ASUS although I suppose I am just a bit of a fan boy. I paid for this board with my own money and nobody paid me for a favorable review. I tend to only buy ASUS because of the quality and the fact they just work out of the box.
