2 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard BUT?

Pros: Good looking motherboard, works great with my 4790K, easy install, using 16 Gigs Corsair Dominator Platinum CMD16GX3M2A1866C9 ram, loving the UEFI bios.

Cons: Here's the problem my Corsair SP2500 speakers POP on boot up and shutdown, never did with the Asus P8Z68 Deluxe Gen 3 motherboard, I'm using a Corsair AX750 power supply on both systems, there's supposed to be a special circuitry to prevent this on the VII.

Other Thoughts: I wrote a E-Mail to Asus tech support on this problem, and here's what the tech support said to do....you won't believe the answer!

"Hi Ken,

It is my pleasure assisting you with the issue of popping sound during
shutdown/boot.

It is normal that a sound comes from the speakers,to solve this I suggest you to
reduce the volume of the pc when shutting down.

The amplifier of the speakers are intentt to amplify the signal given to it,that''s why we
hear a sound.

Kindly also ensure the grounding of the pc/speaker is properly done.

Thank you very much.
Victor S

Customer Service Center.
ASUSTek Computer Inc."

If this is there answer then don't ever expect to ever get anything fixed with Asus tech support....this a joke for a $350 motherboard with SupremeFX Formula 2014 audio. By the way the sound is great, its just the popping that is the deal.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello FVBounty,

I am sorry to hear about the popping noises you are experiencing with your board sir. In addition, I do apologize for the generic sounding email you received from support. I find it odd that he even thanked you at the end as well despite only telling you to essentially turn it down.

As for the motherboard issue you have, I assume you may have already installed the latest drivers, so I will move foward with a few questions in attempt to find a solution. When removing all audio drivers, do you still experience popping? In addition, did you experience this issue from your very first bootup, or has something else changed? If you have already troubleshooted all these questions or still feel the board is defective, I will be happy to have it RMA'd to me personally to look into this for you. I of course will replace the board if I can replicate the problem. At your earliest convenience, please contact me through email, including your reference number within the subject line, and we can discuss this case further. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you have tried so far, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you. Cs#N141065400

1 out of 5 eggsGo to a better company then this

Pros: good while they work.....

Cons: Their warrantee is worthless.
hope your never dies under warrantee....

Other Thoughts: I had a really good board till it had a problem.
They sent it back to me supposedly fixed. It was not fixed and was scratched from clips for heat in soldering.
They also say you may not get your original board back, which is garbage to begin with. They open it, fix it. You should not be getting someone else's junk. You should be getting your board back. It's too bad, my friends had told me asus was good.. They had to eat their words, when they heard what happened.
Go to evga they are a better company. Had something missing from them and they took care of it right away.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I am sorry that you had issues with your RMA. This model motherboard comes with a 3 year warranty from date of purchase. Indeed you may not receive your same motherboard back, as if it can not be repaired, of course it would have to be replaced. You may have even opted for a cross ship as this model motherboard does offer that benefit. I am unsure of what you mean in reference to your board being scratched. At your earliest convenience, please contact me through email, including your reference number within the subject line as well as your past RMA number, and we can discuss this case further. In addition, please provide me with the boards original reason for RMA and what troubleshooting steps you had tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you. 5 out of 5 eggsASUS MAXIMUS VII FORMULA

Pros: Very nice design.
Nice armor.
Two PCIE 3.0
Easy setup with manual
Comes with a M.2 adapter - Am not using it
Nice BIOS GUI

Cons: Not really a con, but I would prefer it if the top PCIe3.0 slot was moved down just an inch or so. I purchased and installed the V8 heatsink (Which was a pain to install) and I am concerned that the top expansion slot is not going to be available. Fortunately there are two...

Other Thoughts: Adding a game with computer parts like this doesn't make much sense. Especially when everyone has a different preference on what games they play. Watch Dogs is mediocre. I would have preferred the motherboard by itself to save a little money,

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Board

Pros: This is my first ROG motherboard, and I have to say that I really am impressed. The included software and the robust BIOS allows you to tweak every little detail or setting to really make the system fit your needs. In terms of build quality, I have never seen a nicer motherboard - the ROG armor really makes the board in terms of both strength and aesthetics. All of the fan headers and connectors are thoughtfully placed throughout the board, which really helps to clean up cable management in the case. I would highly recommend this board to anyone who is on the fence about buying this board - it is worth it.

Cons: I had some issues when water cooling the CrossChill. I was using Monsoon free center compression fittings, and while the barb portion fit into the CrossChill just fine, the compression ring would not fit around it. The ROG armor that surrounds the CrossChill didn't allow the compression fitting to screw down to the barbs. Thankfully, the ROG armor is removable, so I removed it and filed away some material around the areas that were making contact with the compression fitting, which gave enough room for the compression fittings to screw down to the barb. I think this issue would not have happened if I had used a different type of compression fitting, since the Monsoon fittings are quite wide, but it is definitely something to consider if you are going to watercool and don't like the idea of filing the ROG armor.

Other Thoughts: I had an extremely difficult time connecting the 24 pin ATX power connector. I was using the new HX1000i from Corsair as the power supply. The connector was definitely oriented the correct way, and would slide in about 80% without a problem. However, after applying a HUGE amount of force to the connector, the cable latch just wouldn't latch. The latch was around 1mm from snapping onto the connector, but it just wouldn't go. I didn't want to push any harder for fear of snapping the board. I even tried putting something under the 24 pin connector so that the board wouldn't flex and it still wouldn't snap in. It is currently still not snapped, but the latch is literally just 1mm from snapping. Also, the connector is not loose, it's not going anywhere, but just thinking that the connector didn't latch properly is somewhat troubling. I don't know if this issue lies with the Corsair power supply, or the Asus motherboard connector, or if this is just a single incident.

5 out of 5 eggsTruly Excellent

Pros: This board is insane. If you like to play with settings in the BIOS, you're going to be in hog heaven. This is the most extensively tweakable board I've ever seen. I would have to take classes to learn and understand it all. Literally.

Cons: The only flaw I can see in this board is the placement of the M.2 slot. I can understand why they decided to put it on the PCI-E Combo card because of the boards armor but it was folly to put it horizontally. If you try to mount a 80mm+ SSD, the drive will be too long and the ROG armor and CPU power heatsink will prevent the combo card from mounting to the board. You can get the shorter drives in there but seems like people who have money to spend on this, would have money to spend on the high capacity drives, the longer ones. They should have did the same thing as they did with the X99 Deluxe. The M.2 mounts vertically. Problem solved. For me though, I don't plan on using a M.2 drive so really it doesn't bother me.

Other Thoughts: The BIOS can be overwhelming at first. Even the most seasoned overclocker would have trouble finding that one setting they're looking for the first time. I'm glad Asus took their time with the release of this board, it really shows. Be on the lookout for an updated review after I have some more fun with this monster.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Motherboard!

Pros: This motherboard handles everything I throw at it! Low temps, great looks, and always turns heads with its raw power.

Cons: For some reason, the USB 3.0 ports don't work with some of my USB 2.0 products. Solution: Use a USB Hub. Otherwise, the USB 3.0 works with USB 3.0 products and some USB 2.0.

5 out of 5 eggsasus maximus vii formula

Pros: Ok where to begin... I've had this board for about 2 weeks and finally got the cpu for it (was using an i5 4670k and now a i7 4790k) and did a fresh install of windows and such. still running at stock speeds, I do plan on doing some over clocking. just the looks and feel of this board is great, and how it is in the case is amazing. upgraded (ish) from the vi formula. this feels more... just more there. the software is great for fan tuning and really just love this board.

Cons: none at the moment, but will do a follow up after a year.

5 out of 5 eggsdefinitely an upgrade from Z87 hero

Pros: This is a great motherboard with lots of over loving options and a beautifully designed bios. It worked perfectly right out of the box. :-)

Cons: The COMBO 3 unite could be in a better place, the VRM heatsink will stop you from mounting it with new M.2 drives and make sure you plug your Sata SSD's in the original Sata slot and not the Sata express connectors to get the most performance out of your drives.

Other Thoughts: Move the combo 3 to a different place on future motherboards!

5 out of 5 eggsI Love this board

Pros: I have absolutely ZERO complaints. This board looks great, has lots of features, and does everything I want. I have been seeing allot of bad reviews on this board lately and I find it hard to believe. I wonder how many people damage the boards themselves and don't realize they did, how many people wear ESD wrist bands for example?? prolly very very few if any, and that's a simple step to do to make sure you don't kill your board. and the list goes on and on. I know every now and then you might get a faulty board but I think allot is people error....or maybe I just got lucky haha

Cons: None!!
