5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -So many options and features
-good build quality on the board
-excellent O/C tools
-Very easy platform to build from
-Always more to do with this board
-Future-minded long-term board

Cons: -heavy (not worth an egg deduction)
-more stuff than I know what to do with... yet
-No 4way SLI (Not worth an egg deduction for my purposes, but could be a deal breaker for some)

Other Thoughts: Excellent, board. build quality is very, very high. There's so much on this board I haven't even used half of it yet, and there's definitely room to expand/upgrade for the future. There is no 4 way SLI on this board, so if you're looking to do that, you're out of luck.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: none

Cons: Bought 2 of these for workstations, 1 board would not even power on. Rma'd to ASUS and get the issue fixed. 2 months later it started to freeze up sporadically. Sometimes at boot up, sometimes in Windows, no consistency. Rma'd again to ASUS, came back with same issue. Now the other board is starting to do the same thing, freezing up. Used hw monitor to check temps and all below 30c. Gave up on these and replaced with ASRock X99 WS, now works flawlessly. Also made an attampt to contact ASUS, no response. I have always tried to buy ASUS products in the past, but will change now to other brands. Stay away from these, pure junk.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Looks nice, lots of fan controllers

Cons: The tabs on the PCI express ports are flimsy at best. Both snapped off the very first time I tried to remove my video cards. The fan controllers were able to pick up my fans and control the speed but as soon as I upgraded the BIOS that feature suddenly vanished.

Constant overclock failures even with just basic XMP mode being enabled.

Tech support was not all that helpful, they stated that the tab damage probably would not be covered and considered user damage.

Other Thoughts: I don't think I would buy another ASUS board based on my experience with this one, I thought I had paid a premium price for a premium product, this board felt like a crude beta test board especially considering it has already been discontinued. Going to think twice before buying from ASUS again.

1 out of 5 eggsAVOID AT ALL COSTS

Pros: When it worked, it worked great.

Cons: Died after 9 months. I had sporadic system crashes and two of my RAID hard drives died before this system crashed overnight and never came back on. The PSU made a clicking noise so I thought it was to blame, I swapped it out, same problem. ASUS did a cross-ship for me which was nice, but the new board was DOA.

I've seen a lot of forum posts about this board frying components and now I legitimately am afraid my $1000 5960k has been fried, perhaps even my 32GB of RAM or my $1100 TITAN video card.

Have been without a system now for 2+ weeks and to spend 3 hours putting the new mobo altogether only to have it immediately short out and shutdown is beyond frustrating. Oh, and their support staff just hung up on me twice without saying hello.

Other Thoughts: I've read there is a chipset used for OC'ing in this board that is not approved for use with intel processors. Can't believe this would be true on a $400 mobo marketed to high-end builders.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Motherboard

Pros: Good motherboard once it boots - however it has a persistant issue (which others have experienced) where if you many USB devices, it will hang with an A2, AD or AE code. So far no solution is in the office, and I am replacing this paperweight with a non ASUS product.

Cons: I have just over 17 usb devices plugged into my system. From camera's to microphones, to pedals and steering wheels and joysticks - it is amazing how many usb devices I have. So if you have more than 8 devices (and who does not have a keyboard, mouse, steering wheel, pedals, shifter, joystick, camera and microphone etc..?) - this board will hang on reboot.

If you power off the PSU - it will boot successfully once. But then will hang on warm restarts. I have been trying to diagnose the issue for a long time - and finally found a video on youtube where another user experienced these exact problems - and even purchased a 2nd X99-Deluxe and it exhibited the very same problem. Won't boot with too many USB devices.

3 out of 5 eggsBuy new, not Open Box

Pros: I did receive the motherboard.

Cons: I can't criticize Newegg so this field is blank.

Other Thoughts: This review is for anyone thinking of buying the Open Box version of this product.

I don't know why they call it Open Box. It should be called No Box because my shipment didn't even include the original box, just the pizza type motherboard box with what few accessories they decided to include stuffed into it in a resealed plastic bag.

I should have received 8 SATA cables but only got 4.
I should have received (1) 2/3-way SLI card but didn't.
I should have received (1) ASUS -Q-Connector kit but didn't.
I should have received (1) Wi-Fi 802.11 A/B/G/N/AC antenna but didn't.
I should have received (1) Thermistor cable but didn't.
The M.2 Bracket I did receive appears to be missing screws.

My package documentation describes my order as an RMA with a problem field described as "Defective/Failure" but no indication it was tested and certified "Good".

I am confused as Newegg policy states that all accessories have to be included in an RMA to process it but this clearly didn't happen here. So who stole my missing accessories? You have 2 choices, customer or guess who else.

There is a reason you can't place a purchase review on these "Open Box" type purchases. Worst purchase I've ever made!!!

5 out of 5 eggsAsus has created Overclocking for the Masses

Pros: Overclocking is polished and done correctly. They have really taken care to make sure the bios and software work well together. To make overclocking easier, setting everything to auto most times will get you close to the voltages you need for achieving a good overclock. Fine tuning with the software in the OS allows you to keep voltages low while maintaining a good 30% overclock. This board really does push the hardware if it knows you have the correct cooling.
I have to say something about the fan tuning, because it is great at being quiet when the system is not in use, as well as cooling correctly when the system is under a heavy load.
The wifi chip is top notch and connects to my ASUS RT-AC66U at the correct 1.3gbs and can transfer large files for long periods of time.
I know not everyone cares about aesthetics, but this board does stand out in quality visually.
One thing I completely love about this board is the XMP Profile. I am able to run my memory at the correct speeds that I purchased. I purchased a Kingston Hyper-X Predator 3000mhz and it runs the memory at this speed while overclocked to 4.5ghz on the cores and 4.375ghz on the cache. Cannot say that I've seen that very often.
To sum it up, this board overclocks well, software is polished and professional, and all the features live up to the promised specs. What more can you ask for?

Cons: The only issue I can think of is with the audio software. The audio software works fine, but that's as good as it is. It probably is just fine, but compared to the rest of what you get it seems like something found on a cheaper board. I am not referring to the audio quality itself, merely the software seems somewhat clunky.

Other Thoughts: This board will not disappoint and will enable you to build a top of the line system.

5 out of 5 eggsNot a single negative issue

Pros: Ok, I have read a few negative comments about this board and honestly I don't know what these people did or did not do, but I have not had a single issue. This board has ran great right from the start. This was a new build for me and everything was bought from Newegg. Its been a month now and not a single issue. This board does everything Asus says it can and I am happy with my purchases. Well done Asus, my board works great and would recommend it to my friends.

4x4g Corsair mem
1 GTX 980 card
Cooler Master HAF932 case & Hyper 612 ver.2 CPU cooler, with V1000 power supply
Windows 8.1 64 bit

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Owners manual needs some help. Honestly, Asus need to target their customers a little better. The Owners manual has 20 different languages in it. I would have liked a book with just English and more information about the product. Everything and anything you can tell me about the board should be listed in the manual. Example: What is M.2 and how does it work? What are the befits to using it and so on?

5 out of 5 eggsSolid for gaming or editing

Pros: First off, the look of this motherboard is spectacular. I love the white, you don't see that much these days. It's nice to see that I'm getting some real sweet aesthetic appeal when I'm spending this sum of money on a motherboard.

The performance of this board is a significant upgrade from my Z97 ASUS motherboard with loads of new features. The multitude of PCI-E x16 slots is a nice addition if I ever want to attempt a 3-way SLI configuration. However, in order to get the most out of this I'll have to swap my 28 lane 5820k for a 40 lane version. That is something I wish I would've been aware of when I purchased my CPU.

ASUS adds some nice software with their AI suite, but most noteably the 5-Way optimization feature is really what caught my eye. It's a simple one-click button that optimizes and overclocks your CPU and RAM to increase performance while still remaining stable. Unless you're really trying to push your system to its limits, this little feature is more than plenty.

Cons: First one had a problem with registering one of my two sticks of 8GB DDR4 RAM. I had the RAM replaced, same issue was still there. The debug light on this motherboard was very helpful when I worked with ASUS tech support to determine that it was a faulty DRAM chip on the motherboard. I won't deduct an egg as newegg replaced my board no questions asked. Just a heads up for anyone noticing RAM not registering entirely.

One other thing that bummed me out about this is that ASUS includes a 3-way SLi bridge but not a 2-way bridge. So...keep that in mind if you buy this.

Other Thoughts: This is my first motherboard that has a wifi module already integrated and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. I used to have an ASUS dual band USB 3.0 802.11AC wifi adapter that gave me a solid 5/5 bars when I connect to my home wifi. This new one is a tri-band AC wifi adapter that is integrated into the board with an external antenna and I usually get 2/3 bars with in the exact same location. So... I'm not entirely sure what that's about but I did notice a small dip in local file transfer speeds because of it. Maybe this would change if I swapped into a tri-band router as well, but for now this is just something I think people should be aware of.

Also, THANK YOU ASUS for using all USB 3.0 ports. Not just thank, thank you for having so many on this board. I've all but filled mine up at this point, so that's a massive plus to them!

3 out of 5 eggsSo-So

Pros: It's a nice motherboard, but don't know that it's worth all that I put into it. I purchased an i7, 15 MB L3 Cache, which is a pretty fast processor.

Cons: This is about my 14th build, since my hobby started, in 2001, first through Tiger Direct, now only through Newegg. From the day I installed the chipset and drivers, I have had a message box pop up with errors. ASUS does not make it easy to get answers. All other products I've purchased, has an Active X product that scans your computer for the installed parts, ASUS wants you to jump through hoops, to get serial numbers, versions, ect... which is on the motherboard, in small writing, so you have to open the board, take out your graphics card and/or your liquid cooling.

Other Thoughts: I've always liked ASUS, but a little disappointed with the problems I'm having. I can't say they have bad customer service, I just haven' had the time, to jump through all the hoops to get all this information they need, when in it seems all they need to do, is use Active X to find out for themselves, or at least, just allow me to tell them the numbers on the error code. I registered the product, and it comes up as to what it is, just doesn't give ASUS enough info, for them to look into my problem. I can, go into the programs, and just dump the file that is causing the error messages, but I'd rather the board work the way its' suppose to.
