4 out of 5 eggsEarly Review and Initial Thoughts

Pros: This is a very well-designed board, with just tons of "forward looking" features which, hopefully, will keep this board in play for quite a few years to come for me. It has so many on-board features that it's a lot less expensive than it might seem... since you can eliminate quite a few add-on boards (most notably wireless lan) TECHNICALLY, all you need on this is a CPU (and fan), some memory, some sort of storage device(s), and a video card. Anything else is just "gravy"

Cons: This is less of a con than a "be aware" note. The BIOS is not the old-fashioned, conventional BIOS you may be familiar with. In fact, it's a pretty high-resolution, modern display, with animation, color schemes, and looks very "pretty." The problem with this is that it REQUIRES the boot monitor to be high-definition-capable as well, or the system simply cannot boot at all.

I found this out because I have a nice, but slightly older, home theater PC which comes with a front-panel touchpanel display. This connects to the system through both USB (for the controller) and VGA... yes, I'll say that again, VGA... for the image on-screen.

Few video cards these days allow you to CHOOSE which port is the first to initialize (if you have multiple display outputs). (A jumper or switch on-board would sure be nice, video-card-makers!) And if the first display (such as my limited-to-1024x768 front-panel) is initialized as the first monitor... the "BIOS" of this motherboard will not be able to activate and output to that display... resulting in a "legacy mode" error (error code 62 on my board).

I had attempted to update my older GTX 460 video card to a newer GTX 650... the last series with built-in VGA ports, as far as I can tell. It had an HDMI, a DVI-I (dual) and a VGA. I wanted the HDMI to be #1, the DVI-I to be #2, and the VGA to be LAST.

But it would not do that. And because the BIOS display on this board is in "HD," using that card made my system unbootable.

SO, back in went the older, far less capable card.

I'm preparing to try a much newer card... a 960 from EVGA. This card has three displayport ports, a single HDMI, and a single DVI-I (dual). I've also obtained a pair of adapters... from "displayport" to HDMI and "displayport" to VGA. It's my HOPE that i can pick which display initializes first by just plugging into the various displayport positions in different physical orders.

It's not REALLY a "con" but it's a pitfall... if your boot screen can't display a high-definition image, the system will fail to boot. And there's no way to choose which monitor initializes first.

Other Thoughts: So far I'm quite happy with this. It's gone into my living room Home Theater PC, which will now become very capable of transcoding audio and video files very, very quickly, as well as playing games from my couch or recliner, should I choose to do so.

The on-board wireless works very nicely, but realize, it uses the very small wireless antenna ports, not the ones most typically available for external antennas. So, you're stuck with the provided antenna, with few options unless you really want to go "hardcore" in rewiring things. The GOOD thing is that the wireless-AC networking, even with this tiny little antenna, seems to work as well as my older wireless-N connection, and perhaps a LITTLE bit better, though not as much as AC ought to bring to the table.

I'm using the sound output through my video card's HDMI... so I'm not really seeing the benefits of the onboard sound. The thing is, the on-video-card nVidia sound seems more than adequate through my 7.1 pioneer amplifier and Klipsche speaker system. Still, I'm probalby going to bypass the HDMI sound output and go to the direct-optical-output from the motherboard's sound system at some point in the future, just to eliminate the occasional "lag in activation" I get from HDMI-based sound.

My own application is atypical. For the typical desktop user, I can endorse this card unconditionally. For those who are more casual, or who have special needs (like the output-sequence issues I mention above) you may be happier with something else.

1 out of 5 eggsX99 DELUXE = unfinished product

Pros: if u win the digital lottery this board will work if not ur stuck with a bad product that cost an arm and a leg

Cons: have been problems with this motherboard since September 2014, I had to RMA like 7 times now,
tech suggest me to replace my psu, Drive, format windows, make sure install drivers and such but I had many other motherboard and never had this much trouble with specially USB ports that work when they want or if ur lucky like me the usb controller is not even recognized ... that's just great, now my first x99 deluxe died and fried my asus 690 GTX video card I was frustrated I was without a pc for a while and I was frustrated at the poor customer supports that throw u around with fixes that do nothing. I had the X79 deluxe from asus and didn't have all those problems. and I sure didn't have to send it back 7 times. there is a clear problem with this board and needs to be address and well I spend 500$ on defective and unfinished product I think its my last asus product with this poor quality control on high end product they don't deserve your business.

Other Thoughts: Seems like they are quiet and take a very long time to reply if they ever do reply, to me this company is showing me that once they have ur money all they wanna do is close they eyes and ears and run away with ur money,,, if u got trouble your on ur own. Asus ignores u and fill u with excuses instead of real help.

1 out of 5 eggsGood board, horrible tech support

Pros: The board mostly works, and when it does it flies. The bios is easy to understand, and provides enough options for an overclocker to go nuts. 8 DDR4 slots, m.2 support onboard (which I haven't tried), and many, many usb3 ports.

Cons: Asus support. Oh dear lord, Asus support. The board I received acts a little flaky (bios usb enumeration sometimes has garbage characters in it, sound starts to skip after the machine has been on for a while, usb devices need to be unplugged and replugged to work if they've been idle for a while). I started through the Asus RMA process, and I keep getting the runaround.

Faxing the form in is useless, as they will ignore it and advise you to wait one more day or try re-submitting the form. I will be e-mailing in the form tonight (I'm glad I kept it and have a scanner, because they require a hand-written signature in several places and will not accept a computer drawn signature).

Other Thoughts: Asus, I'm very disappointed in your customer service. If you provide a fax option, make sure those actually get processed.

1 out of 5 eggsdo not buy!!!!

Pros: easy auto over clocking

Cons: this is not my 4th x99 deluxe board. thats right number 4 from newegg. so far all have failed within 2 weeks of purchase and when i say fail i mean totally unusable. so far all 4 have had the same problem out of the box, does not detect half of the ram slots. all 4 have had pci e failures. all of a sudden the board stops seeing either of the video cards and everything locks up for about 30p seconds. and if you plan on plugging in anything at the bottom of the board dont bother with a second video card. the fans will hit any cord.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth your Money

Pros: Claims to have had a lot of things going for it.

Cons: Have returned three of these now with the same problems, and Asus tech support was unable to help either. XFX R9 270 video cards not detected, hdd and sdd not detected. Board never posted, and never produced video to see the post report, and occasionally even had some mystery legacy issue that was unidentifiable. Getting store credit for all the headache. Thank You, Newegg.

Other Thoughts: As a custom system builder, this is the first time I've had any problems with Asus hardware I couldn't figure out. Even so, I think I'll try somebody else just for giggles.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked great...for about a month

Pros: Feature rich, decent design, robust fan/overclocking/etc control.

Cons: Everything was working great for about a month and then out of nowhere the whole system shut down during regular use.

No overclocking was done and everything was set to pretty much 'out of the box' settings as I was really happy with how everything was running. Temps always in the mid 20s so I'm hoping that this didn't take out the CPU or video card along with it...

Now the PWR_LED and RST_LED light up but that's about it. No 2 digit code on the LED display, no fan spin, nothing. The power supply 'clicks' when the power button is pressed but nothing happens. Stripped the PC down to 1 stick of RAM in the D1 slot and no video card with the same result. Cleared CMOS, pulled battery, even reflashed the BIOS...nothing.

I did buy this elsewhere (sorry Newegg) and am out of the return period (of course). I plan to RMA this board through Asus but am fearful whatever happened will happen again. I almost wish I could exchange it for a Rampage V Extreme (though some people report similar issues there) or a completely different brand altogether.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect!

Pros: Perfect, good looking and tons of features

Cons: dunno if its just my PSU cable connector to the motherboard. but mine was really hard to connect to. but maybe it was just my PSU provided cable.

Other Thoughts: At first i was very doubtful about the board since i read many of the negative reviews here. But after reading all their negative thoughts i think its very untrue about the board. This is my first time ever building it. With no knowledge whatsoever. Turned out perfect to me. im guessing those people either messed up installing it and doesnt know what their doing or the board came defective. other than that, this Motherboard is perfect.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: M.2, Plenty of Pcie 3x16 lanes, large Heatsinks,
Seems to be a great board, most games the dual lan or some software optimization has my ping cut by about 25% (admittedly might dependant on having a router/switch capable of combining the 2)
Also the fans are on auto/temp controlled and seem to be running low/slow so that the heatsinks work well. atleast for gaming.

Cons: Doesnt has thunder bolt or usb 3.1, Admittedly the usb 3.1 can had as an add in card on the version for about 20 more. but the lack thunderbolt which is available on the cheaper boards is confusing (maybe lack of PCIE lane/bandwidth headroom)

Also note the large heatsinks and shroud can be a problem (in my case they made it so my water cooler (radiator) wouldn't fit on the top or back with the fans attached which would eliminate the point of having it.) not necessarily a problem for you depending on case just something to be aware of.

Other Thoughts: Had it for a few days been putting it through most of my games and programs all seem to love it and the new processor so I would say solid choice if you can afford it.

2 out of 5 eggsHit & Miss

Pros: performance, features, design, accessories, quality onboard audio, connectivity

Cons: tech support,

Other Thoughts: If it had worked properly, or if someone had been able to help me fix the memory controllers that didn't work, it would have been a great board. Sitting on hold for hours and having online support request connections constantly fail really turns me off... enough that I wouldn't recommend this or any other Asus product.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic job, Asus

Pros: From the breadth of features to the layout of the board, this is an unbelievable board for the money. Took me several hours before I got the board even powered up to load an OS. Felt like a kid, tweaking settings, changing the ports where the drives drives were, and how to see them, and get the boot order right.
I've used Asus since day 1, when you just threw out the instructions after a few minutes of frustration trying to figure out the translations. A lot has changed. The instructions are very descriptive and going thru each of the settings was terrific.
The changes to the BIOS are unbeatable. I can tweak to my heart's content or use ASUS presettings. I can use my mouse in the UEFI. Go figure that one. Took a long look thru the UEFI, read the manual before, during, and after the build.
Setting it up without the manual was easy, using the manual made the build out enjoyable, as the huge changes in technology are amazing. 3 weeks and still tweaking!

Cons: Needed to buy DDR4 RAM to use. I mis-read this a half dozen times, thinking I could use the 12 gig of DDR3 I just bought to try to save this old machine from dying...
Now I have 16 GIG (You will never need more than 256 mB) of GSkill. Good memory, but would have preffered to use old RAM until more options, and price shifted down. No complaints though.

Other Thoughts: The negative reviews appear to be lack of knowledge or skill, unless the board is dead. If you know what you are doing, and how to build a system, the problems building this are my own, not the board.
I upgraded from as Asus P6T6WS, so it's been a while. This board blows me away. Once I eliminated my choices down to ASUS, I struggled between this and the Rampage V. I could not have chosen a more fun and interesting motherboard.
Initial setup was Win7, as I have belived win7 was the optimal OS.
Moved to Win 8 to see if I could notice the power of this system better than on win 7.
Windows 8 on this platform is terrific. I've spent a lot of time learning Win on this. This system will be my Win 10 machine.
Win 7, Win 10, Server 2012, couple Linux distros running in HyerV don't even bother these resources.
