5 out of 5 eggsAn 85% perfect DAW workstation board

This review is from: ASUS X99-A LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Raid utility is extremely easy (thus fast) to use. No headaches like with my Gigabyte boards.
It actually supports RAM, unlike other boards I wish I had never bought. Using 64GB Crucial memory.
I've never had a bad ASUS board. Extremely stable for getting work done!
Studio One and VEP with this board and an i7 5820k are very stable. Even Kontakt runs smooth for a change.

Cons: Packaging wasn't as nice as Asrocks. This board was certainly fine. But theirs had legit protection.
Need additional M.2 slots (I'm dreaming, but 3 would be an instant buy for what I do, 2 is at least better than 1)
Need a third PCIe 1x slot (one for my RME Audio Interface, 2 for UAD Octo cards)
Need 128GB of RAM support on a non-Xeon CPU (i7 is better for what I do)
Want onboard video (As I don't game, it's one less thing to pay for)

Other Thoughts: I need High SSD performance spread across 3 drives for high bandwidth and low latency. Plus a ton of RAM. When they finally get there I can replace my 3 machine slave farm with one quiet workstation!
My farm currently hosts 970+ instruments on 3 machines (orchestral, synths, drums) without a sweat. I just want 1 computer now. The day I can have all these things in a smaller, quieter case... I'll finally have the computer I've wanted for the last 10 years. ;)

3 out of 5 eggsNot sure how to rate exactly.

This review is from: ASUS X99-A LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: All of my motherboards have been from Asus. Never had an issue.

Cons: Put the first X99-A into a new intel 5930 K rig. Ran almost continuously for 5 months or so, flawless. Then the computer went dead.Replaced the power supply to no effect. RMA'd the motherboard. Asus replaced in one week. Fantastic support from them. Haven't been able to get the replacement to turn on or post any codes whatsoever. Tried several of my corsair power supplies with it but no change. I can't seem to troubleshoot it.

Other Thoughts: I still feel Asus motherboards are the best. Would still recommend them to others.

1 out of 5 eggsNever again

This review is from: ASUS X99-A LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: None

Cons: Where do I begin? I got this as an open box to save a few bucks but didn't know it was defective until after the Newegg return period because I could not afford to buy the CPU. You see I'm disabled and have to scrape for every penny. Anyway, Newegg said to contact Asus since it was still in warranty (3 years). I did and RMA'd it no problem. Three weeks later I got a replacement board which was also defective. I tried to contact customer support but they ignored my email. They say they will get in touch within 48 hours and it's been 6 days. Nothing. I tried again today to do another RMA online and the website just sits there fat dumb and happy when I submit. This board won't post, and there is no access to the BIOS, which is the same problem with the first one. Different Q-code error though. It has new Crucial DDR4 memory, new i7 CPU, new EVGA video card, a used hard drive but it has been checked okay, not that it matters. I've built at least 20 systems and have never had this kind of problem before. I used to think Asus was a quality company, guess what? No more. DO NOT BUY THIS BOARD!

Other Thoughts: Good luck.

2 out of 5 eggsMemory Lanes dropped

This review is from: ASUS X99-A LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Loved the board. The overclocking on the CPU was phenomenal. Was perfect for my purposes. The overall build quality was great.

Cons: After 9 months of use, all 4 memory slots on one side of the board stopped working. Everything else works fine, I've tested each memory module in different slots, and in another motherboard. They're just not there any more.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to inquire with ASUS about an RMA. I think it should still be under warranty.

4 out of 5 eggs***ASUS PLEASE READ***

This review is from: ASUS X99-A LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This is a second review on this board. Bought 5-22-15 and it ran great for eight weeks with the 5930K and G.Skill 3000 memory.

Very powerful machine. It's like the muscle car enthusiast saying, "Cubic Inches, There Is No Substitute"! This system has power to spare.

Cons: System died on 7-27-15 with Q-Code AE on a reboot. 14 weeks, 3 RMA's and one replacement board later and system still hung on AE after POST. It turned out to be the CPU and Intel was outstanding with their replacement.

My frustration comes from the Asus repair staff. I sent detailed notes with each RMA of tests I've done and how to recreate Q-Code AE. If they had attempted to recreate trouble per my instructions, and board worked, I would have known after the first RMA that the trouble would have had to be the CPU and I could have gotten on with the CPU replacement 13 weeks sooner. Repair Staff; read customers notes please.

Because they didn't attempt to recreate trouble it cost Asus 6 shipping fees and however much time was spent by repair staff to do whatever it was they did. It also cost me 13 weeks with a broken system.

Another issue that should be addressed by Asus is that they should send a list of tests done, repairs made and whether it runs or does not run for them. Don't' just send board back! Again, properly testing board and information from repair staff would have saved them a fair amount of money and me a whole lot of time while my board was in transit between my house and their repair facility.

Other Thoughts: My perception of Asus, their products, phone support and email support is great but the repair procedures have some room for improvement. MOST of the phone support really wanted to help out. Email support is a good way to go as the person there has more power than the phone support staff who can only issue an RMA whereas the email support can actually issue a replacement.

I have told their phone support and email support these very things and decided to post another review here. If you have had the same issue LIKE this post and maybe Asus can revamp some of their procedures.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent MOBO

This review is from: ASUS X99-A LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Stable most of the time. Lots of configuration variables. OC well. Running at 4.5GHz on air.

Cons: Somewhat buggy on cold boots. Very particular about some settings (memory). Have to hard reset many times to get to boot into OS. OC via wizard is kind of clunky. Not as user-friendly as PRO model.

Other Thoughts: Probably would go with the PRO model. This one is a little buggy on cold boots. Configuration isn't intuitive.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Performance X99 board

This review is from: ASUS X99-A LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Good looking board with loaded features
Full speed M.2 slot, will be perfect with Samsung 950 Pro
Best BIOS out there, very easy to use, Asus keeps updating it
Very reliable and stable for the past 6 months

Cons: Missed one startup, later powered on just fine. I guess it's PSU related.

Other Thoughts: Most X99 boards are very good.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked fine for a week

This review is from: ASUS X99-A LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: The board seems fine, its got more than enough ports and slots for anything you need, the BIOS is user friendly, ASUS does not disappoint (usually...)

Cons: after one week of use, the PC will not post. the HD spins up, then you can only hear a quiet clicking noise, which is the sound of the GPU fans trying to spin, which they never succeed in doing. the CPU fans, the case fans, none of the fans spin up at all. there are no beep codes, no error codes on the LCD mobo display (shows "00") and does not ever boot, post, or anything else. i tried a different power supply, different ram combinations, only thing I havent tried is benching it, which I will do during the process of removal for an RMA. if it works, I will cancel the RMA and edit this review... otherwise 1 star it is.

Other Thoughts: never had a problem with ASUS until now, kinda went against my nature and got the newest of the new, and now i am regretting it... probably will be a month before I can use my compy again...

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Mark,

I am sorry to hear that your motherboard is not POSTing and the inconvenience it caused you. Can you try taking the motherboard out of your case and test it on a non-conductive anti-static test bench, and see if the problem still persists? If you need any further assistance, feel free to contact me at cl-justin@asus.com and I will help you to the best of my abilities. Your case # for reference is N1508101852

3 out of 5 eggsASUS X99-A

This review is from: ASUS X99-A LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: x99 and all the goodness of that

Cons: Boot hanging...

Other Thoughts: It's not widely out there or easy to search for but, these asus boards (regardless of price x99-a/deluxe what have you) seem to have a fair amount of us experiencing boot handoff failures (transitioning from bios to OS control.) I experience this 3 out of 5 boots. Absolutely dissapointing... My first board had a faulty b2 dimm slot and the same issues. RMA'd (newegg is a saving grace) and found the new board still had the boot issues :(

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Ryan,

I am sorry that you are having boot problems with your motherboard and the inconvenience it may have caused you. Have you tried updating to the most recent BIOS to see if the problem still persists? Have you tired a different hard drive? There is still a possibility that your replacement board can be faulty. If you need any further assistance, feel free to contact me at cl-justin@asus.com and I will help you to the best of my abilities. Your case # for reference is N150818645
