12K Hours Capacitors
12K Hour Caps - Capacitors with World's Best Longevity

ASUS is the world's first motherboard manufacturer to introduce 12K solid capacitors, and X99-E WS is of course equipped. These Japanese-made capacitors are the most durable in the industry, able to endure up to 12K hours at 221°F (105°C) and 1.2M hours at 149°F (65°C). This is far higher than the temperatures generated by everyday computing, so X99-E WS is built for endurance. Our 12K capacitors also boast lowered equivalent series resistance (ESR) for increased efficiency and minimized heat generation — improving overall performance!

X99-E WS

ProCool Power Connectors

ASUS ProCool is the power connector reinvented! Compared with traditional power connectors, ProCool connectors ensure an exceptionally close and secure connection with the X99-E WS motherboard. This design is much stronger, and it also benefits power efficiency: the flush connection enables lower impedance and better heat dissipation, allowing cooler operating temperature.

Beat Thermal Choke
Higher Stability and Lower Power Loss with Beat Thermal Choke

ASUS Beat Thermal Chokes deliver great durability and up to 93% power efficiency under normal operation. A special fin design results in 3-5? lower choke temps for added stability, which is increased exponentially by use of highly conductive and efficient gold-treated coating. This translates into minimal-loss power delivery.

Dr. MOS MOSFET
Dr. MOS - The Do-More MOSFET

X99-E WS benefits from an integrated Driver-MOSFET (Dr. MOS) that both saves space and reduces operating temperatures. Compared with traditional MOSFET designs, the Dr. MOS high-side and low-side MOSFETs and built-in driver extend component lifespan and enhances power efficiency.

2 out of 5 eggsWould be a Great Board if not for the Ram Problems

Pros: I love its has support for all the latest tech

Cons: I can not get 32GB kits to work correctly no matter what I do if my kit is set to 2400(which is the memory spec) it will not see whats in slot b1 unless i set the ram training setting to Ignore. This leads me to believe that this board has an issue but I have yet to get ahold of anyone at asus i am really starting to get annoyed. I also dont like how this board likes to aggressively overclock putting in my new cpu for the first time it automatically overclocled it 600mhz without me changing any bios settings.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I am sorry that you are having issues with configuring the RAM on the motherboard. Is the RAM that you are trying in the QVL and you set the timings manually corrrect? How had you contacted ASUS when you were unable to get a hold of anybody? If you would like to discuss this case further, please contact me through email and include your reference number within the subject line. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you had tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you. Cs#N141064509

5 out of 5 eggsEverything I was looking for

Pros: I am running this with the Core i7-5930K and 48 GB DDR. This board comes with everything I was looking for - quad x16 PCIe lanes, USB 3.0, and rock solid stability. I am watercooling with the Thermaltake 3.0 Ultimate, and did not even need to install the custom backplate, the existing motherboard mount fit the cooling block perfectly. I have run Prime95 for 24 hours and not gone over 50C.

Cons: The Asus AI Suite underclocked my CPU by dropping the BCLK from 100 to 80Mhz. Be careful if using this application. The only solution was to uninstall the app, and revert the clock timings from the BIOS. This was with the latest BIOS and AI Suite as of October 12th, 2014.

5 out of 5 eggsFlawless so far

Pros: It's still very early in the X99 product cycle but my experience so far with the X99-E WS has been nothing but excellent. Installing an i7-5960X and liquid cooling system (Enermax Liqtech 240 fit with room to spare) and 4-way DDR4 kit went smoothly. The thermal paste seated well and began to transmit well within a half hour of gentle use, and in the second hour of the board's life I had no problem overclocking to 4.6GHz on just multiplier and moderate voltage.

The real test of this board will be to see if any issues come up when I go for multi-way SLI eventually. But this also will spend much of its time as a true workstation just doing Photoshop work and general business and software development stuff. It's more of a hot rod than I truly needed, but it's solid future insurance. I won't plan to rebuild for another five years.

Cons: Like most motherboards, even deluxe level ones, the I/O block area still doesn't mate all that well with the I/O shield, which still ends up looking and feeling a little bit bulged where the ports all push up against and through it. I know it needs good contact but the finish appearance still isn't quite as clean as hoped. It's fine, though.

ASUS's arrangement of settings in the UEFI BIOS is not all that intuitive. You go in expecting to find all voltages in one place and all timings in another, sub-organized by CPU vs. DRAM, right? Instead settings are grouped in less intuitive ways that probably make more sense to ASUS but not to me. It's OK, though, just a learning curve. It's been nice to move up to UEFI and no longer feel like BIOS operations are from the early IBM age of computing.

Other Thoughts: It feels like i just bought, or built for myself, the computer equivalent of an incredible six-wheel-drive all terrain vehicle and I'm already driving it over a mountain range and across deserts and swamps. This is the fantasy midlife workstation rampage I have always dreamed of and it's no joke, it's better than I even thought it would be.

4 out of 5 eggsupdate to my first review that was 2 eggs

Pros: same as first review

Cons: needed 3 boards to get one that works properly.

Other Thoughts: After RMA'ing my first board, I later found out the board also fried my 5960x. Info was given to Asus and the board was supposed to be sent to HQ to see what happened. Raja (Asus rep on the OC forums) was a big help. I ended up getting a refund and a RMA'd chip and bought another board.
2nd board has been fine at stock speeds, no OC ability at all, ram was impossible to set at rated speeds, no matter what settings, any oc would result in failure to post. Ended up getting a third board and it's perfect. easily set ram to 3000, oc to 4.6 @ 1.32v on 5960x! Sucks to have to get 3 boards to get on that works but am happy with my third board.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid mother board!

Pros: Lots of fan headers
Solid build quality
Very nice looking
Lots of PCI-E!
Nice looking bios settings

Cons: Some of the bios settings were a bit confusing. For example, it seems if you change the base clock, you can no longer use auto voltage (CPU voltage says fixed at its max). When you use an XMP profile this happens by default, however it looks like you can set the DRAM speed independent of the base clock so not sure why it does that.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from my old P6T motherboard with an i7 920 to this with a 5960x. To say it was a big upgrade is an understatement. Compared to the P6T I love the number of fan headers and plethora of PCI slots. You can pretty much put your graphics cards in any slots and not worry about a dud 4x slot. There are the PLX chips used to make this possible and some people say they add a noticeable latency. If it's true I could never tell.

Out of the box I had problems with my system locking up randomly. Also about half the time of entering the bios settings my mouse and keyboard wouldn't work. I flashed the latest bios version and haven't seen a problem since.

5 out of 5 eggsUnbelievable Board!

Pros: Solid as hell, well mapped-out, huge amounts of expansion, sleek looks, bios/ interface is extremely user friendly and customizable, components are the finest materials I've seen in a board.

Cons: Haven't found any yet.

Other Thoughts: I'm running a Xeon E5 2697 v3 processor, 64gb of DDR4 ram (eventually 128gb), 4 Samsung Evo SSDs, an EVGA GTX 760 video card and everything is running flawlessly. From initial setup to a heavy DAW workload (Cubase orchestral sessions with dense libraries and multiple hundreds of instrument instances loaded), this board has already proven its value to my workflow. I've never had a hiccup-less experience with a custom PC before but Asus has really blown away my expectations.

5 out of 5 eggsFinally!

Pros: As of right now, I've not experienced any issues with the 99x-e ws motherboard.

Specs:
i7-5960
4 x 8Gb Gskill 2400mhz memory
Fractal Design R4
Samsung 840 pro 512Gb
EVGA GTX 980

Installed Win 7, ran several CPU/Memory stress test without experiencing any issues.

Overall - Really pleased with purchase. Have been able to overclock ram/CPU without any issues. Currently able to reach 4.4Ghz without an issue (CPU), though I'm still stress testing components.

Cons: Other than the price, I've have nothing negative to say about the board. Will update if I encounter any issues.

Other Thoughts: Overall a great board. Quality seems top notch.

3 out of 5 eggsRAM not recognised

Pros: Seems like a great board. I bought it because I wanted the best, fastest MB available. If it worked, I would be really happy

Cons: Board shipped with 3 bent CPU socket. I seated the CPU before noticing the issue. RAM is slot c1would not show up. All other RAM seemed fine and all the RAM I bought works in A1, B1, or D1. Starting the RMA now. FYI the Guys at ASUS where not very helpful at all. I thought the board had a GREAT RMA program. Cross or advance ship. NO ASUS just said, reseat the CPU and call newegg. !!!!

Other Thoughts: I really like ASUS WS motherboards. Just what I need as a content creation professional. I would like to be treated like a professional when I buy a 600 defective product. I see a lot of videos about how ASUS fully tests the WS Motherboard. Is that true?

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings Brandon,

We're sorry to hear about your experience with the motherboard. Our motherboards go through rigorous inspection before leaving the factory, and all come with a protective CPU socket cover to prevent accidental damage to the socket pins. Although of course we can not control the environment that our products are in once they are distributed. 2 out of 5 eggsTypical Asus QC!! :(

Pros: 7 full 16x pci-e 3.0 lanes
m.2 pcie support
best looking x99 board on the market

Cons: Board had lots of issues. New bios helped a bit but still a ton of bugs to be fixed. Board died just looking in the bios to change the usb settings so that it may actually see my keyboard. Had a total of 5 hours of use installing windows and updating everything. Total bummer, going back for a RMA tomorrow and now I will wait who knows how long to get a replacement, since there isn't any....

I will update my review when I get a replacement.
