5 out of 5 eggsREAD Before buying!! Please!!

Pros: Please read and inform yourself before purchase.

This is a great board and rock solid. I didn't have any problems with it. That said this is a technical board and you should give yourself plenty of time to familiarize yourself with everything before you start the install. This is a 2011V3 (VERSION 3) so make sure you get a cooler that can support the version 3 socket of this board.

Everything is fairly straight forward if you've built PC's before. When installing the motherboard hook up as little to it as possible, that way there is less to trouble shoot. You can go back later after you've installed windows and add more of the plug * play features to the board. I highly recommend Swiftec water coolers with this board, they are completely sealed and do not leak and provide amazing cooling, so much better than air cooling. Again make sure you get the VERSION 3 processor for this board. I bought the intel six core i7 CPU for this board. So be careful and make sure you get version 3 cpu for this board. With the water cooling you have lots of room. The led lighting on board is very cool. The handheld overclocking feature seems kind of gimmicy but that shouldn't detract from anything because the board is just that great. It has wireless on it, tons of USB 3.0 on it and even USB 2.0.

If you are installing windows 10 or other windows via USB stick, plug that stick into USB2.0 or you will get tons of errors and it won't install. Also make sure during windows install you only have keyboard mouse and usb stick (or cd rom installed). Windows 10 wouldn't install only to find out it was my USB hub and attached usb devices that were stopping it. So when installing this board try to reduce variables for reasons of troubleshooting that way if something is a problem you can find it easier.

BEWARE: Before you install the CPU get a magnifying glass and a strong light and look at all the pins on the socket to make sure none are bent nor is there anything unusual. There was a tiny debris of metal laying in the socket. I couldn't believe my eyes. That sliver of metal would have shorted my cpu. I lifted it out with xacto knife tip and then blew the board off with compressed air. So be careful, check the pins on the board (cpu contact too) for defects before install.

Cool stuff.. lots of little add ons and features to play with even weeks after you get your system up and running. Temperature sensors, tons of on board Cpu fan and case fan on board. I think they really did a lot of beneficial things on this board that have been coming a long time. Tons of Sata ports. I never used the on board raid so I can't speak to that. Bios is easy to navigate and I did not even update it.

When installing occasionally touch your plugged in pc case to make sure you ground out. That way you don't shock your board.

All in all a great buy.

Cons: Minor: The Asus cd that comes with it says "Incompatible with this version of windows" (on windows 10) lol Really Asus? Jeez. Not a big deal though, surf over to their website and just download all the device drivers for the board one at a time (which is actually safer from a trouble shooting standpoint and you'll at least know they're up to date) but it seemed silly it's not forward compatible with windows 10.

Odd that all the beginning install stuff starts at 2-1 in the manual. So skip the first half of the manual if you're in a hurry to install. Why they don't start those instructions on page 1 is nonsense. I struggled through figuring it out myself going from the front of the manual only to find out that half way in (I had already installed everything) is where the easy to follow instructions are. Doh! Should have read through the whole manual first before install.

Other Thoughts: Whether you're super into gaming or just want a rock solid work station and want the realibility and great features of Asus. Or maybe you're like me and have been buying Asus for 15+ years and just loyal. This is a great cutting edge board. Worth the money. I would buy it again. Don't know where other people have so much trouble on newegg but I generally don't have a lot of problems with the tech I buy on here so I have to wonder why people have so much issues... maybe they're pushing the hardware further than I do or maybe they just find reasons to complain. I dunno. But I reccomend this board as it works great. Just make sure you keep the install process simple and only add one thing at a time for troubleshooting ease.

1 out of 5 eggsthis is a BLUNDER by Asus

Pros: this board looks pretty , has easy OC functions for beginners .

Cons: lets not get even started here ,

i am among the unfortunate league that are hopelessly trapped in the reboot fail issue , the board boots fine from shutdown ,

but u can never restart it from the OS .

whenever some program or the windows tries to restart the system ,
it doesnt ,
sometimes , it keeps running the restarting screen till infinity ,
and at other times , the system shuts down , and then it doesnt restart , and shuts down itself .

we start it through the power button , it all goes fine .
but restart command ? NO WAY !!!

i tried in on windows 7 , tried it on windows 10 ,
10 times i installed windows again again again ...

but no , it does everything but a simple restart ....

and as for asus-tech support , if you people are listening ,
do not offer me your diplomatic support , and open a ticket ID for me , i want my board replaced . or just throw a BIOS update that fixes the darn thing !! i wonder how asus has been not fixing this issue even after there are petitions open for this specific issue ....

3 out of 5 eggsGood but can be a stubborn MOBO

Pros: - Great OC capability
- Pretty awesome automated OC for conservative use
- A plethora of nice features

Cons: - RAID 0 had some issues for me. I was raiding two samsung EVOs SSDs. BIOS would recognize this but Windows Install wouldn't even detect it. I went through so many forums, doing custom driver install via USB, unraiding, re-raiding, unplugging every other bootable device, nothing worked. I couldn't even get into the legacy raid settings through DOS. Eventually, through chance, I was able to get into the DOS RAID screen (avoiding the Asus BIOS raid configuration). I began making some progress but still, nothing. Finally, I set all drive boot settings to legacy and finally, it worked. Not sure why but it did.

Every now and then, the boot won't work and it'll default to nothing. I have to then do two things: reset my computer w/ one monitor on, and manually boot from the raid. After that, I can restart and all will be good.

Not sure why this is happening but it's freaking annoying.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Board Ever!

Pros: Not really any . . . Has some nice control over fans and stuff, but Corsair Link, which could be the only thing more unreliable than this MB, was supposed to handle that aspect.

Cons: Everything runs slow, starts slow, motherboard loses its setting all the time and I have to reset in CMOS. I have 128 GB of RAM running at stock speed, so it should be stable, but it is useless, so a terrible waste of money. I have never owned such an unreliable _____ as this motherboard is, and it was way to expensive to be such a troublesome _______. Buy something else, anything else.

Other Thoughts: Just sooooo sorry I bought the MB. Way too much maintenance just to keep it running . . .

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsDissapointed

Pros: Cannot withstand the N=-S-=[jhhhj]A using radio logical dispersal we=a-po=ns for ha-te crime, se-gre-g=+a-tion, w++hi-te-su[jhhhj]p=r=em-a=cy. The RDD w++eap-o[jhhhj]ns cause significant electrical damage on the equipment. After purchase, i could hear loud pops and electric grounding into the location of the box, before i installed it. Meanwhile i am hearing laughter via LR[jhhhj]A[jhhhj]D and other disruptive behavior in the property.

Cons: I sent the motherboard out and explain what i am going through to ASUS. I was told i would receive a replacement because the PCB channel were damaged due to radio logical dispersal being used on it. Mind you this is every electronic device i buy now, even my PS4 is being a[jhhhj]s-aul-te-d by the N-S-A contractors. I received the motherboard repaired, they replaced the CPU, the RAM, and dented the motherboard and scuffed it.

They replaced everything except the problem, the "PCB", because they cannot tell the difference between DRAM channel and PCB junction issues or channel. Reverse induction into PCB damages the capitation and grade of the motherboard, it is radiation. The N-S-[jhhhj]-A is testing the we-{ap]ons on property and civilians to see how bad your health and how easily they can destroy equipment. It takes only a few shocks via satellite to destroy the equipment, followed by loud audible sound of shock waves.

I called ASUS and the tech did not care, told me, what matters is that it works. It is impossible to fix PCB, the motherboard worked already, the channels were damaged, and the sata was damaged. This is what happens every time the RDD is used to conduct damage and sur[jhhhj]veil[jhhhj]lance on equipment.

I purchased a warranty for the motherboard, just to find out i would receive not a replacement, but the value of the current market price. Not what the motherboard was worth during purchase, but what i paid for it during a sale. So the same motherboard is worth more than what i received, because they changed models.

I paid 531. They said the motherboard is worth 449.00, no tax, no other fees. The warranty was 40.00. that totals to 489.00. If i am not mistaken where is my money? There was no taxes or other costs, but the invoice says the same thing. A magical price of 531.00 was paid for a total of 489.00, where did they extra 40.00 come from?

Other Thoughts: none "You cant talk about h-a-t-e crime and the N-S-A on the internet" Cen-sor-shi-p guys, they are looking to waste your time and life by burning a hole in your pocket.

3 out of 5 eggsThe board is great but ASUS Support is lower than the bottom of the barrel

Pros: Awesome technology with a very good interface for professional installers. Smooth power control with plenty of ways to monitor everything. Installed quickly. This board is one of those special dreams for an overclocker. With multiple ways to overclock everything and to check your work this board is everything I could ask for.

Cons: Support is horrid, I was told to RMA a perfectly good board. I would give this board 5 eggs were it not for the extreemly low level of customer support. The disk that comes with in the package doesn't support Windows 10 so before you install you will need to download the drivers from the website.

Other Thoughts: I bought this despite the bad reviews and decided I’d test it out both ways to see what should be done. I wanted to know if the hardware was trash and if the customer service was poor. What I found was that the hardware is spectacular and to say that the support is poor is not adequate terminology. The words abysmal, horrible and just plain wrong are much more suited. ASUS has done what most computer companies do and that was to outsourced their support. It hasn’t worked in the past maybe just because they haven’t found the right call center. The only company I know of who has managed to get a decent service team from outsourcing has been Microsoft. Though you will have to get through a very thick accent you usually get reliable service. I doubt the people I talked to even know what a motherboard is and call the case the hard drive. I made two calls for an error that I knew how to fix. I was told to RMA the board.
The board:
Let me start by saying that a Rampage IV Extreme ROG board isn’t for a first time PC builder and wasn’t designed to be an office computer; though it would do just fine in that role. It’s a board designed for people who like to push their systems to the limits and in many cases beyond and this often causes hardware failures. This board is quite capable causing your chips to start smoking, that isn’t a metaphor. If you’re only looking for something to get email, surf the web and check your bank statement just get a tablet it will serve your needs far better for less money.
Like the predecessors this board sports a number of ways to overheat your system so you need to be ready for that eventuality. The external controls provide you with very good data and it installed well. I highly recommend you not put this inside a mid-tower case. Get a large full tower case with plenty of fans even if you intend to liquid cool it. It isn’t a small board by any stretch and a full tower will give you the necessary room to work. I installed a pair of MSI Radeon R9 390X cards and it had no problem running both of them. I’ve spent several weeks fine tuning the board to get the most out of my hardware without causing damage to the system.
The support:
I installed the board and I didn’t reinstall Windows. I just let it boot and was rather surprised that it booted but it wouldn’t let me install the network driver. I knew both the problem and solution was but I decided to let ASUS take a stab at it. The first tech told me that this board isn’t compatible with Windows 10 and hung up the phone. The second after a few lame attempts told me that the board was defective and I needed to return it to the place of purchase, he also ended the call abruptly. ASUS has outsourced their call center and it’s obvious that they get paid by the call, not by the results. ASUS needs to deal with this problem quickly or they will be out of business very soon.

5 out of 5 eggsRampage V

Pros: high build quality, excellent bios
overwhelming number of features. Overclocking is so easy its
almost a joke.

Cons: none at all

Other Thoughts: I just installed my rampage v with a 5960x two days ago and I'm extremely impressed so far. I got my 5960x to 4.6 ghz with total ease running at 1.28 vcore. I havn't tried for 4.7 yet but I feel confident it can, but honestly whats the point? the CPU already kills anything I throw at it, and I get more fps than I need so yeah lol. I can try lowering the voltage further possibly, I havn't really even begun tweaking with this mobo's overwhelming options. The temperatures are only 37c when gaming and 75C under max load stress test. If you are trying to overclock, set your memory do default x99 speeds (2133) you will have far greater stability. Honestly unless you have money to blow, or work in computing finance I don't see the point in having super high speed ram, as the price per performance is terrible. But anyway once you hit your desired overclock, then try boosting up the ram speed. If you don't get ram where you want don't worry about it. Its probably not going to make much difference anyway.

If you have a sound card, go into the BIOS and disable the HD audio on the mobo when you aren't using it, it was creating crackling noises for me. Im using a nepton 240m for cooling. Also be sure to buy Arctic Silver or another quality brand of thermal paste, as I saw a drop of 7 C from using the cooler master paste to arctic silver.

It may seem like the cpu can go in right side up or down either way because the notches are so similar, but it wont. The CPU only goes in one way, so don't force it or you will wreck the pins.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Experience So Far

Pros: Everything works well that I've needed. Running an i7 5960x stable @ 4.6 GHz, 2x Titan Xs and a 1TB Intel 750 and loving the performance.

Cons: None. Expensive but you get what you pay for.

1 out of 5 eggsSecond Board Same Failures

Pros: - Nothing, can't get to Windows.

Cons: - This is the second Rampage V Extreme board I used. Since first one had bent pins.

- motherboard refuses to go past Bios, If I'm lucky.
- Most of the time I just get a black screen and nothing else.
- few of the Sata ports were completely dead.

Other Thoughts: you expect for the price you pay to get a working motherboard. I might try MSI new x99 motherboard. Since I having a horrible time with Asus motherboards.

It is very unfortunate that the second board you have received continued to mechanical issues. Does the second motherboard you’ve received also have bent CPU pins? Do you have VGA (Graphics) Card installed as well? Does your motherboard power on? What specific RAM modules are you using on your motherboard? Have you tried re-seating your CPU and making sure that the CPU cooler isn’t installed to tight? Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any technical questions or inquiries at cl-nestor@asus.com. Your ASUS motherboard has a 3 year warranty and I would be glad to assist you with a RMA if the issues continue after further troubleshooting.
