1 out of 5 eggsI used to trust ASUS

Pros: - Looks nice
- Tons of features if it works (see cons)

Cons: - USB doesn't work correctly most of time (doesn't recognize mouse/keyboard, plugging in new devices causes connected devices to be lost, "power surges", etc, etc)
- Randomly will not POST
- Auto overclocking (XMP or whatever) consistently will fail

Other Thoughts: Like seemingly many others, I have had nothing but issues with this board since about a week after I built my system.

I have "dealt" with a lot of the same things other users are complaining about (USB problems, randomly not POSTing) by restarting as infrequently as possible.

Today the board finally bit the dust, and it may well have taken my 5820k with it. It will not post and just displays QCode 76 with the CPU LED on. I have tried clearing CMOS and reflashing the BIOS using flashback with no result. After the hassle of just using this board day to day and now this, I will likely never purchase an ASUS product again. I never thought I'd be writing a 1 egg review of a $400 mobo. It lasted just a hair over year.

To RMA... or upgrade to skylake and an anything-but-ASUS mobo.... that is the question.

5 out of 5 eggsUltimate Computer Board

Pros: Will run as faster and more stable than anything else on the market.

Cons: You have to be an EXPERIENCED computer builder or user to set this thing up right. I run games wide open with no glitching, lagging, or crashes. I also do 3D Cad quickly and flawlessly. Most problems I see with this board are due to incorrect setup.

Other Thoughts: Award winning computer technician.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate the BIOS and it'll be the best OC MoBo you'll ever have

Pros: Its simple and advanced modes for its BIOS configuration
Its incredibly in depth level of control over the systems
Its INSANE overclocking potential
Supports Liquid Nitrogen cooling

Cons: Other than the need to update the BIOS to remove many problems that have plagued the early BIOS versions, I have none.

Other Thoughts: It is very much possible to break the 5GHz barrer with this board.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat MoBo

Pros: Ease of installation; # of headers and connectors; performance.

Cons: Wish it had a firewire header; PCIe slots 2-7 are the only ones available in a Corsair Obsidian 650D mid-tower case. Memory fans block bracket 1; bracket 8 too close to PSU to use the extra SPDIF bracket there. Had to use bracket 7, which blocks PCIe slot x16-6. UEFI BIOS does not automatically select UEFI for bootup devices in 64-bit systems. Had to go through a messed-up Windows installation because of this.

Edit, 4/5/2016: after almost a year of use, I still love this Mobo, even though there have been lots of complaints about the USB. I did find that the USB front panel connections are not robust enough. Using the front panel with USB HDDs, it is only possible to use a short 18" cable. Anything longer, and the HDD keeps appearing and disappearing in the system. Using the USB Turbo Boost, which is great for the back panel USB ports, makes the front panel even dicier. There are workarounds for this problem, but it is annoying.

Other Thoughts: This is a phenomenal motherboard. I recommend it highly. The intel X99 chip blazes. The slot lineup issues are specific to the case, and shouldn't be a problem in a full tower. Just an FYI note. I do wish there was still a Firewire header on the board. Firewire is still used for many audio interfaces, and they are not changing that anytime soon. I had to buy an add-on FW card.

2 out of 5 eggsWireless fail

Pros: Love the board does all the things i need it to

Cons: when i got it the 3 pin wireless antenna was missing the little screws that secure it to the MB so i cant use the wireless on this board i am very annoyed at this 550ish price point i thought better care would be taken

Other Thoughts: everything works great wish they would've made a e-atx with this look as i would of went for that instead but i love the board anyways. Would rate at 5/5 if the wireless wasn't missing parts

1 out of 5 eggsBe Advised

Pros: Lots of features

Cons: Read the con reviews and be warned.
Got this X99 Deluxe last July and it ran well enough for awhile but always had random shutdowns. I have a UPS and that would beep as my screen went dark and so did the computer. In Event viewer nothing to explain it but just the report that it was an unexpected shutdown. The instances became more frequent until a few weeks ago when the looping to bios reported by the others signalled the end. As someone wrote, when I bought this board after months of research and anticipation - always been an Asus guy - there weren't many/any reports of these failing Asus X99 Deluxe USB 3.1 out there. Now there are too many.
I RMA'd the board immediately and went and dropped it off at the region's Asus office and with no explanation a week later I was given a brand new complete box replacement which was admittedly very nice and went home to rebuild the machine.
Put it all together and it wouldn't boot. This time the error code lcd was working - first one it was dead when I finally got to looking at - but it had 00 - which in the manual says they don't use. (!) So I took it with the memory and cooler still in place to the local shop and tried all the tests on the bench and it still wouldn't post so tried another X99 board - no post. At this time these boards are not common and the shop didn't have a spare 2011v3 processor available and so for me to test the new Asus board and the existing processor - I had to purchase a brand new i7-5930 to do the test. Close to a grand later - it posted on the replacement Deluxe board, but that meant the CPU was dead. The Asus Deluxe took out a very expensive processor in it's dying. Like some others here, I have been building and enthusing for almost two decades, and I had never blown a processor. Didn't think you could. So now I have service request with Intel and we'll see how that goes. And.......I still am on a Deluxe X99 USB3.1. Maybe not for too long. I am not down on the Asus tech folks; the online RMA submittal and the report depot were fine. But this iteration of the X99 chipset etc., is suspect. Be careful.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings Bruce,

Thank you for sharing your review on the ASUS X99-DELUXE/U3.1 Motherboard. I'm sorry to hear about your failed components and the hassle you had to go through in order figure out which component went bad. I'll make sure to forward this review to the related department for continuous improvements to this product line. What are your hardware specifications? Is your CPU, memory, and power supply all in the qualified vendor list? Please make sure all your parts are compatible to avoid issues down the road. Just wondering, what type of CPU cooler are you using? My advice, if you plan to overclock your CPU at a frequency above default settings, please consider a liquid cooling kit to keep your CPU from overheating. Also please make sure to put just enough thermal compound spread throughout CPU before installing your cooling unit. If you have any questions or need help finding certain hardware, please feel free to contact me at cl-nestor@asus.com using N160314429 as reference to this case.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Sincerely,
-Nestor

1 out of 5 eggsBELIEVE all the other negative reviews... this board is a nightmare!!

Pros: Nice feature set... too bad you just can't use them since the board won't even POST.

Cons: To be perfectly honest, I'm so tired of dealing with this motherboard that at this point I just want to take a sledgehammer to it, set it on fire, and throw whatever's left in the trash. I don't ever want to deal with it or Asus ever again.

This board has been a nightmare to say the least. When I bought it 6 months ago, there weren't the number of negative reviews up about this board as there are now. At first I started with an Asus X99 Pro. Had problems with it so I returned it and got a Deluxe. Surely there wouldn't be any problems with a more expensive board, right? WRONG.

After the first X99 Deluxe board died and I couldn't get it to work, I sent it back and got another one. It lasted for four months. But then suddenly for no apparent reason, it wouldn't make it past the BIOS. Every time it boots up it would go directly into the BIOS and nothing I tried could get it to do any different. I never overclocked it. Well, I tried, but that too didn't work either. So after four months it refuses to POST. I couldn't figure it out... spent many days on it.

The first PC I built was in 1987, but it's been a good 10-15 years since I've built one and I didn't want to deal with it anyway, so I took it too a local shop to have them get it running. After three trips lugging it back and forth, they ultimately couldn't get it running either. So I took it to another friend who has a repair business and has been building computers for 20 years and he couldn't get it running either. Then I spent 5 hours on the phone one night with another friend with 15 years in IT and he couldn't help... nor could another friend who works for Best Buy Geek Squad (I was trying to figure out the combined years of IT & system-building experience everyone has who has tried getting this to run, and I came up with 120 years of combined IT/system-building experience of the people who've worked just trying to get this system to work). And then when I call Asus to try to get someone to help, I'm just given quick (short) worthless advice that doesn't help from people who don't understand how much time and effort I/we have already put in to getting the board(s) to run. It seems like they just want to get you off the phone as quickly as possible.

This was turning in to a long drwn-out ordeal and I couldn't be without a computer, so I had to buy an HP -- just to have a working computer. Now I see all these negative reviews about this board and everything fall into place and makes sense... this is simply a bad board and never should have been foisted onto the public. Are there any attorneys reading this? This is definitely a class action just waiting to be filed.

If you are considering purchasing this board (and think you're very lucky), please keep in mind that while it has great features, none of that matters when the board won't even POST. And once you go past the time period in which you can return it, what you will get back from Asus if you send it in to them is a refurbished board which someone else has most likely had problems with (after you just paid full price for a new mobo). So the way it works is; you pay for a new board, and when it doesn't work, then you get a refurbished one that someone else has had problems with. And then there's the wait time in getting an email response back from Asus (up to 3 days) once you go through their telephone experience (which is a very frustrating ordeal in itself).

Oh, and did I mention I smelled smoke in the room it's in too? At the time, I couldn't figure out where it was coming from, now after reading all the other reviews here and on other sites about smoke and pops coming from these boards, I now have a very strong suspicion where it came from (haven't smelled it since it's been unplugged).

I am not going to keep throwing good money after bad trying to get this board to run. It's gone now and I'm SO glad it's out of my life. I never want to think about it again!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Preston W,

We appreciate your review on the ASUS X99-DELUXE/U3.1 motherboard. Thanks for bringing your issue to our attention and I know how frustrated you must be towards this whole process and I sincerely apologize for that. Is your X99 Deluxe board not able to POST? Which Q-LED light is displayed when turning on your PC? Which UEFI Version are you currently operating on? If you haven't already please reseat all components on the motherboard, including the 24pin/8pin connectors to see if the board gets to the POST screen The motherboard may be outdated and can not detect new memory or QVL CPU, please update BIOS to latest version for optimal compatibility.  It seems many of your main components are supported in our qualified vendors list and at this time please. . I would be more than willing to help you out if needed. Please let me know and I can set you up to get this board serviced through RMA. If you need my help with anything just contact me at cl-nestor@asus.com and I'd be more than glad to help you out.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Best Regards,
-Nestor

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely Disappointed

Pros: Nice looking board, plenty of USB ports, M.2 support

Cons: Endless problems; board died completely once, boot loops, audio problems, XMP failures

Other Thoughts: The board worked great for about a month then died completely. No POST or Bios while the CPU power cable was plugged in. The first rep from Asus recommended I RMA my CPU (5930K). The second rep from Asus had me RMA the MB. I heard nothing from Asus for almost 2 weeks. I received the MB back lose in a box wrapped in one piece of packaging material. I had to call Asus to get the details of the repair. Turned out to be a weak solder point on one of the power caps. Fine; reinstalled and the machine booted. But now I can’t enable XMP. 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 3000 and I can’t enable XMP. Any OC attempt results in an endless boot loop an OS corruption. Now I’m having issues with audio. Audio cuts in and out while gaming, watching Youtube, listening to locally saved audio. I will replace this board very soon. It, and the MB in any future build won’t be an Asus.

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to inform us on your experience with the ASUS X99-DELUXE/U3.1 Motherboard. We appreciate the feedback and please accept our apologies for this inconvenient experience you've had with you ASUS product. In regards to your XMP issue, where you able to use XMP mode before the initial RMA? Which BIOS version are you currently operating on? If you haven't already please flash your BIOS to Version 2001 for improved system stability. Please make sure to have your memory installed on slots DIMM_A2, DIMM_B2, DIMM_D2, DIMM_C2. Are you operating on manual or adaptive voltage for overclocking on your system? Please provide me with more details on the settings you are applying so I can assist you in achieving a stable overclock. For optimal stability I would recommend manual overclocking. If you are increasing your frequency multiplier please make sure to raise your core voltage as well. if you are not stable increase voltage and frequency .01 + 100 mhz. For your audio issues, please make sure to update your audio driver to version Version 6.0.1.7525 located on our ASUS Support Website. You contact me using N160287197 as your reference number at cl-nestor@asus.com. I'd be glad to help with any technical questions, overclocking tips, or any general inquiries.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Best Regards,
-Nestor
