5 out of 5 eggsFantastic board, very easy setup.

This review is from: ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Setup the board with an i5-6600K, and G.Skill 2666 DDR4. Easy overclock to 4.5Ghz. No issues at all. First thing I did was update to the latest bios, then enable XMP for the mrmory. Couldn't be simpler.
This is also the first board I've ever had where the onbaord audio was usable, due to the de-pop setting in the bios.

Cons: None really, although it would be nice if the onboard LED's turned off with the system.

Other Thoughts: Not sure what the issues are with all the DOA and negative reviews. I've built a few systems with this board now, no issues with any of them.

1 out of 5 eggsShoddy RAM ports

This review is from: ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: None so far since I can't get the bios to work.

Cons: The slots for the RAM on the unit I received are loose. I can only get my computer to boot if it is laying flat on its side. The moment I try and stand the tower up the bios will freeze and the DRAM led comes on. I have to lay it back down and take the RAM out and put it back in before it will boot back up. This MOBO has basically turned my new computer into a $1200 paper weight.

2 out of 5 eggsDOA and it's common after reading around

This review is from: ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Cool LEDs and the perfect specs for what I wanted from a gaming PC

Cons: DOA. PC powers on, fans run for a few seconds, stop running, runs again, and continues to reboot. Tried everything and determined it's the motherboard. Reading around it seems that this motherboard has a reputation for doing this.
-SATA connectors are terribly engineered where it's practically impossible for me to get a third or a fourth SATA connection without removing the motherboard from the case.

Other Thoughts: I've never had issues with ASUS and I'm terribly disappointed. I read around and Googling z170 asus comes up with several other threads in forums that indicate others have had the same problem. Some report that it reboots a few times and then boots normally. Mine wasn't so lucky.

Giving it 1 extra star because the LEDs are cool but don't chance buying this motherboard. I was forced to return it and I now have to find a motherboard that matches my specs. Probably switching to Gigabyte.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for sharing your ASUS experience. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this issue has caused. If you’re having issues getting your system to POST to BIOS, double check each cable on the motherboard including your 24pin/8pin power plug connectors. Clear CMOS. Use one memory module only. Remove GPU and other devices from board. Just leave the CPU and plug you monitor into the motherboard directly to check for POST. Once the system POSTs, proceed with a firmware update for the latest microcode for your CPU. For more information for the UEFI version you need for your CPU please visit our ASUS Online Help Desk: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z170-PRO-GAMING/HelpDesk/. If you need information on any technical related questions, feel free to contact me @cl-nestor@asus.com.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

5 out of 5 eggsFull Featured and Stable!

This review is from: ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Build quality is good and the board is nice looking

Supports all of the latest IO, M.2, SataExpress,

Integrated audio sounds clean no noise
Supports TPM 1.2 for Full drive encryption with BitLocker

4.4Ghz OverClock on a 6600K has been stable for the last year

Cons: The mouse support in the bios is kind of bad I stick to keyboard

Other Thoughts: If you do intend to buy a TPM for encryption make sure you buy the "Asus TPM-M 14-1 Pin module" This is important because most of the other modules available on the market are 3.19 pin and will not work.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy to use! 1st time with BYO computer

This review is from: ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: -Manual that comes with it explains everything...which is really nice; especially if your new to doing your own build and freaking out over "did I put this in the right place?"
-Several online video's that are step by step to assist
-EZ setup BIOS made OC, cooling, initial boot up (for OS install) etc a breeze and "less intimidating"
-CPU installer made installation literally a snap
-Includes colored stickers for labeling cords

Cons: -None to date

Other Thoughts: -This made my 1st BYO experience awesome!

2 out of 5 eggsI assumed to many things when I selected this MB

This review is from: ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Build quality seems fine. Visually seems ok.

Cons: I assumed there would be a spot to plug in the front panel header for USB. There isn't, so that's kind of bad news

I assumed there would be a system reset button on the MB and there isn't so you have to first identify where the reset SW pins are and short them out with a paperclip (unless you're too scared to do that ... which I was for 2 days). I was disappointed that the manual didn't even have instructions on how to start the system when I did an out of case initial setup, so thanks to LMG forum people who told me I had to short out these pins.

I assumed there would be a POST display of some kind on the MB but there isn't so when you turn the system on you're kind of blind.

1 out of 5 eggsDEFECTIVE

This review is from: ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: DEFECTIVE upon arrival
on the other hand looked great

Cons: it would've been nice if it actually worked

Other Thoughts: I recently bought this product for a new build and i was excited for its arrival. Upon arrival i set everything up and at the end it turns out it was a defective motherboard. i paid over $100 for this brand new mobs and it turns out to be defective.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We appreciate the feedback you have provided on your ASUS experience. My apologies for any inconvience this experience has caused. What are your hardware specifications? Is your CPU, memory, and power supply all in our ASUS qualified vendor list? After you have verified your parts, please double check each cable on the motherboard including your 24pin/8pin power plug connectors. Please make sure all your GPU connectors are firmly installed and that all your SATA drives are receiving power from your PSU. Clear CMOS and see if the board will POST. If it will not, pull one memory module and place the other stick in the slot furthest from the CPU and see if that helps. Please make sure to complete the power off cycle before testing hardware to avoid damaging your hardware. If you are able to POST make sure to update your UEFI to build 1206 for compatibility updates. You can find your motherboard's BIOS on our ASUS Online Help Desk: http://www.asus.com/us/supportonly/Z170%20PRO%20GAMING/HelpDesk_Download/. If you need help with any technical questions or general inquiries, please contact me directly at cl-nestor@asus.com.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board for the price

This review is from: ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Works like it should with no issues.. So far anyway.. Ive not owned it long..

Cons: Nothing has come up yet that i can list as a con in my eyes..

Other Thoughts: Having some weird overclocking issues as in voltages wont stay where I put them.. This could be the CPU though.. Ive read in an online review that even at stock settings CPU i7 6700k, will hit 1.4volts.. Is this because what we are using to read the volts is wrong? IDK its all so new at this point.. I really dont think this has anything to do with the board.. Wonky CPU from Vietnam I suspect..
