5 out of 5 eggsDoes its job no issues

Pros: booted right up no issues.

Cons: The board sticks out a few inches past the last row of screws so you have to be careful when you go to plug in your atx power connector, or else you might break the board.

Other Thoughts: I'm not a over clocker but I am a gamer and I don't run SLI so this board does all that I need it to. I put a I5 6500 in, two 8 gig sticks with a gtx 970. Runs all the latest games. Simple board with simple features

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent ASUS z-series board for single-GPU enthusiasts

Pros: Setup and install was easy with this board. I had already done the Win7/Win10 free upgrade on my old CPU/MB, and after plugging my parts into the new board, the system booted from my existing SSD and made the necessary updates on its own. Overclocking my new Skylake 6600K from the slick BIOS required only a small adjustment in voltage settings to run all day at 4.5 GHz. I didn't try for more because the consensus of reviews was that any 6600 should be stable at that speed with little voltage increase, no practical gains from going to 4.6 or 4.7 but more voltage needed and stability problems cropping up. So I "set it and forget it" at 4.5 GHz.

This board is set up with Crossfire in mind when it comes to multi-GPU. The secondary PCI-E graphics slot is limited to 4X channels instead of 16X. I prefer NVidia cards, but I only use single-GPU so this was no concern for me. It has all the essential features of an ASUS Z170-A or Z170-Deluxe except full SLI support. If you are on AMD graphics or don't do SLI, get this board and save yourself $25 or so.

Cons: None for my usage case.

Other Thoughts: If you are doing this as part of an overall upgrade including OS, be sure to upgrade your CPU/RAM/Motherboard before doing the free Windows 10 upgrade. I went the other way and my Windows 10 was de-licensed because of the hardware changes. This resulted in nag messages and the inability to change desktop settings. Microsoft released an update to Windows 10 in November that allowed users to re-activate using their Windows 7 product key and that solved the problem, but I would advise doing things in the "correct" order. :)

2 out of 5 eggsIt'll run your Skylake CPU.. that's about it.

Pros: If you have a fondness for orange or pulsating LEDs, this board has a line of LEDs glow on one side of it.

Cons: Will not overclock AT ALL. XMP profiles or without. Even updated the BiOS (which I had to do with a USB drive, cuz trying to "download update from the internet" via the UEFI would fail everytime) to version 601. Still cannot run at all, unless you are at default settings. Trying to adjust anything (even just making a 6600K run at its STANDARD turbo clock of 3.9Ghz, full time) would cause major instability of the board.
Would cause the board to loop in Boot up & Restart or crash all-together at Boot Up Post. On the extremely rare chance it does successfully boot (only happened twice for me so far, while trying to use an Overclocked Profile), the overclock will not have taken effect. The CPU will still be running at its stock speeds (3.5Ghz in the case of the i5-6600K I got).

Other Thoughts: I am extremely disappointed in ASUS. It's been, what... three months (at the time of this message) for you guys to figure out 6th gen Intel chips? Why do we have to deal with this? None of my AMD chips (Athlon, A-series APUs or FX chips) ever ran into any problems, even before I would find BiOS updates for their respective boards.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy and cost effective solution

Pros: Bought this for a simple build and no intense graphics use. Works great in a simple office environment. I do like the vid port availability. Run 2 monitors, no issues.
Installed Windows 10 UEFI from USB, took about 3 minutes from start to finish with Skylake icore 5 to an SSD.
I didn't bother with anything on the disk, I let windows install all of the required drivers, etc, so I had no issues on install.

Cons: As with almost all asus boards, I can't stand how the SATA and 4 port power plugs are layed out. I could barely get them plugged in and wires around them.

Other Thoughts: Nice board, easy to maintain.

3 out of 5 eggsBIOS Problems

Pros: Once I got it working its a very nice motherboard.

Cons: The board was delivered with bios revision 410 and when I first put everything together there was no video output. After trying many things I discovered that the board would work with memory in dimm slots a1 and a2 but not with memory in b1 or b2. Upgrading the bios to version 601 fixed the problem and all four dimm slots now work. I have had a number of ASUS motherboards and this is the first time I have had any trouble. The manual ought to have trouble shooting tips, it ought to include the beep codes produced during POST but does not. The board has a string of LEDs that blink slowly and I still don't know if these mean anything.

Other Thoughts: A more complete manual and shipping with a later bios would have been good

4 out of 5 eggsI would, and may, buy this product again

Pros: This board was the least expensive of its type, but for my purposes was actually superior to the more expensive models. I haven't owned this long, but it works well and I have used Asus on many previous build with no issues.

Cons: After setting up windows 10 with no issues I opted to install all of the components on the included drivers disk. My install was on a m.2 drive. I'm not sure which component of this install was the culprit, but my system would no longer boot or even recognize the m.2 device after. I inquired with Asus support and was told to use updated drivers from their website. Considering I had to fully reinstall my OS, I decided not to use any of the included drivers or software and everything seems to be working fine with no issues.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure about the drivers, or if this is an isolated incident, but I assume that it is related to using the m.2 for my primary drive. Regardless I would recommend avoiding the included disk and heading directly to the Asus site for the drivers and software.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard w/ intuitive features

Pros: Easy intuitive overclocking
Stable as hell throughout the overclocking process
Fast interfaces (USB 3.1)
inexpensive

Cons: If you have upgraded to windows 10 and plan on replacing your motherboard / processor and keeping the same license, you are in for some trouble with the new generation of motherboards.

As a result of the Z170 architecture change, the windows 7 install does not allow users to utilize USB ports during the installation process. Plan on spending a few hours doing research of why your board won't recognize your hard disks and USB devices, regardless of the drivers used. You have to slipstream drivers on the install media (must be a DVD, USB doesn't work).

Only two USB 2 ports and a separate plug in on the motherboard for case USB ports.

Other Thoughts: Very happy now that i have solved all of my windows 7 / 10 key issues.
