EliteGroup (ECS) has long been known for producing value-driven motherboards for the mid-range marketplace, but is one of the first to bring us a board suitable for the Intel Core Duo and 965 chipsets. The P965T-A (v1.0) delivers a 1066MHz FSB and has room for 8GB of DDR2 SDRAM to get your monster growling! Put that onto your Realtek Gigabit Ethernet LAN controller, and you’re ready to party!
Link up major peripherals through the parallel and serial ports, and the 4 USB ports. PCI and PCI-E slots enrich the mix for including major graphics acceleration, and the Realtek onboard audio provides superior high-definition sound. This is a motherboard that’ll support some serious builds!

No need for a 8-pin power line
- Pros: Everything works right away without any glitches: 350W power supply (20pin + 4pin), Core 2 Duo E6300, Corsair DDR2 800 (1.9V), Powercolor Raden X800GTO video card.
- Cons: The manual does not provide enough details and has quite some errors as mentioned by other reviewers. The BIOS doesn't show the IDE CD and DVD drives. They are handled by the JMicron chips. No SATA RAID at all. I got a separate RAID card for this.
- Other Thoughts: There is no need to have a power supply with a 8-pin 12V connector. You don't have to convert it either. Just plug the 4-pin connector to one half of the 8-pin recepter on the motherboard. That's it. (It is actually slightly worse if you add a converter.) This is the same as you use a 20-pin main power line instead of the new 24-pin. I like that the board designers chose to use 8-pin for forward compatibility. However, they should apply a sticker that blocks off the additional 4 pins to prevent confusion as done in some ASUS boards.
Why do I return thee, let me count the reasons
- Pros: + working Core 2 duo board for cheap
- Cons: - Clueless tech support @ ECS
- not (2) PCI-Ex16 slots, second x16 connector only supports x4 speed, and you can't use the PCI-Ex4 slot at the same time as either PCI-Ex1 - inaccurate manual - appeared DOA on first boot, actually had CMOS clear jumper in wrong position, both the printed manual, and the errata insert were wrong - manual says "BIOS enables users to configure"... " CPU parameters, CPU and memory timing -- but there are no memory parameters at all, nor any tuning for CPU - manual shows wrong BIOS screen supporting independently changing voltage for CPU, northbridge, and DIMM -- actual BIOS only has CPU voltage - manual, concerning FSB, states "you can key in the numbers within the range to make a precise and ideal adjustment" -- actually, options are preset: 100, 133, 166, 200, 266, 333 - the "RAID controller" JMicron 361 isn't useful for RAID, by the time you attach a DVD drive to the PATA you can't get matched drives for RAID. And I never saw any RAID configurati
- Other Thoughts: this new clipless CPU fan mounting really scares me -- seems insecure

DOA
- Pros: Cheap price. Decent number of expansion slots.
- Cons: I was one of the unlucky ones who received a board that would not display any video. Tried two different graphics cards in the board, tried clearing the CMOS settings, nothing. Of course without any on-board video, I couldn't try different BIOS settings... what freaking MoBo nowadays doesn't have on-board video?! I had to buy a slightly better, newer, more expensive board at Fry's. Installed it in the system, and the video came up right away.
I have yet to call Fry's and ask for my "restocking fee" and shipping charges back. I'll update this post when I do. Nobody should have to lose money on this company's shoddy products (in reference to ECS, not Newegg).
Get something else
- Pros: Cheap, supports Intel Duo processors, stable.
- Cons: Not reliable, poor support, inaccurate manual
- Other Thoughts: I bought this board roughly 20 months ago. I've had problems booting with the board and tried to upgrade the bios. The board died right away. I sent it back for replacement (had to pay shipping myself) and got another one with the same boot problem. This time I didn't upgrade the Bios and found a workaround. A few days ago my board stopped working (which also seems like a boot issue.) Technical support was poor and they made me do zillion irrelevant things. Then they tried to sell me another bios. I told them that I have warranty and I'm now waiting for their reply. Just do yourself a favor and choose a different board.
- Pros: It's a decent board with dual core (and limited quad-core) support, especially for it's price. Enough USB ports to plug-in most everything, high-def audio, and support for 8GB of RAM.
Also, fully Vista-compatible.
- Cons: A fair chunk of the CPUs are only supported with a flash of the BIOS (not for the squeamish), which is Phoenix/AWARD (not gamer friendly). No integrated graphics for the low-end crowd. Single PATA channel (through the Jmicron chip) needs a bit of configuration on some RPM-based Linux distros to get it recognized. English manual is more engrish than english
- Other Thoughts: Overall, a decent setup. Here's Mine: ECS P965T-A, Pentium Dual-core E2180, 1GB DDR2-800 (soon to be 2GB), eVGA nVidia GeForce 7200GS, 400GB total HDD space, Lite-on DH-20A4P DVD+/-RW, reused FDD, Asus WL-138G WLAN, TrendNet serial modem (coming soon), Windows XP MCE (pushing for Vista Ultimate x64 edition), 380W PSU, and Raidmaster case
