Not Bad, Could Be Better
- Pros: Build quality is very good and ECS has improved some on their BIOS which in the past has been very lacking. They have incorporated a two digit condition code that you can use if trouble shooting is required, no more counting beeps or just guessing as there are many codes for different conditions that can aid in resolving any issue(s) you may come across. Board boots pretty fast and comes with a Linux boot image you can use to quicly surf the web with no needing to boot into Windows.
- Cons: The biggest problem with this board is the limitation of the DIMM bias voltage which starts at 1.6v and can be incremented up from that. Most of the better memory is biased at 1.5v and that is what I bought DDR3 1333, this didn’t run well on this board system would post but Windows would fail after loading the install files into memory. Memory clocked at 7-7-7-21 but the MB saw it as 9-9-9-24 due to the default bias voltage. I tried to change the clocking a bit in order to gain stability but didn’t want to get too carried away. If you buy this board you should look at RAM that is 1.6v or higher expected. The memory I bought was “G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Model F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH – Retail” found on this site. You don’t have much control for OC’ing this board even though it is labeled a Black series board.
- Other Thoughts: With the memory issues/limitations and the fact that there is no support for Virtualization I decided to return the MB and not the RAM as I could have problems with other RAM as well. For those that don’t understand what Hyper-V, or VT (Intel), is required for you need it if you want to run XP Mode under Windows 7. What it does is it provides hardware support for the virtual environment that is difficult in the VM, Virtual PC for Microsoft, software engine and the end effect is a big performance boost, runs faster. Windows 7 will be release the 22nd October 2009 so if you are building a new system I would suggest buying Vista with the free upgrade to 7 as it is much better then Vista since they massively cleaned up the code. I can run 7 on a socket 462 with only 512RAM and it runs better then XP did! Other MB’s in this price range like ASUS, ASRock, & MSI, I haven’t checked out Foxconn, all have DIMM biases that range 1.5v to 2.5v typically so if these features are required look i

Quality Board From ECS
- Pros: - good value for the money.
- exceptional quality heatsinks/thermpads used for SB/NB/PWM. - NB heatsink dissipates heat rather well. - other mobo designs do not have PWM heatsinks, thus heat will be an issue for heavily threaded apps that utilize 100% of processor cores for even a short period of time. - ran the igp/radeon 4200 at 790 core/400 memory, with NO problems or artifacts.
- Cons: / as of BIOS rev. 785G717A.ROM /
- squealing component at PWM area, (PWM's?) after 3 minutes large FFT's in prime95. - manual overclocking thru BIOS does NOT work, hangs with error code "d0" (LED) even at default settings. - no overclocking options for memory/DDRAM and CPU-NB (only option is to increase base/reference clocks). - no voltage settings for CPU-NB vid.
- Other Thoughts: - overall a recommended buy for HTPC and other microATX build applications. just don't expect monster overclocks on air. BIOS needs a little work from ECS/AMI.

A Heads Up
- Pros: -Free shipping + $20 off with 550BE combo.
-All solid capacitors. -Onboard graphics is almost useful in games when overclocked. -Great board layout, possibly best I've ever seen. -Good overclocker.
- Cons: -No sideport memory, why?
-ECS DOES NOT ALLOW CORE UNLOCKING!!! -BIOS has a lot of problems, hopefully they will fix soon.
- Other Thoughts: I really don't understand why ECS chose to not include sideport memory, it cost maybe $1 extra and adds 10-15% performance in games.
I bought this board thinking I would be able to unlock the cores on my 550BE, but unfortunately they are the only company that does not have that option in the BIOS. A stupid mistake that surely will cost them.
Please do your research before buying, I wish I had done more research myself I would have gotten the gigabyte board instead.
- Pros: n/a
- Cons: Follow up on previous review. Dual monitor setup can only be done through D-Sub and (DVI or HDMI). You cannot have DVI+HDMI. So fault of ECS but a con for 785G, apparently DVI and HDMI share the same lines in the 785G. (I read that from another forum).
- Other Thoughts: ECS Tech Support should have known. I'm sure that I'm not the only one that tried this set-up.
- Pros: Very easy build after MSI 770 disappointment. On board graphics is quite powerful and sound is very clear.
- Cons: HMDI is not working. I don't intend of using it anyway just trying it out.
It wouldn't "permanently" recognize an add-on 5750. It's hit or miss. At one point, I got it to install cat 9.10 and vista gave me 5.9 for graphics. But it all went away after entering the BIOS.
- Other Thoughts: I would have given it 3 eggs but I gave back 1 because ECS support at least tried and not just copy and paste a canned response. This is the sad state of technical support in the US.
For the ECS staff, thanks for the effort. For HDMI, their solution is to use another monitor. For the video card, use another.
I am very optimistic that these are just BIOS issues. Looking forward to the "fixes" in their next update.
