5 out of 5 eggsNice for Home Server

Pros: Cheap. (you can still get these on #BAY)
Low power.
Dual Core Atom.
- Gigabit LAN
- PCI, PCIe x16, PCIe x1 card slots
- 3x SATA

Cons: RAM DDR2 533 (slow)

Other Thoughts: I was lucky enough to get this on #BAY.
I bought this with the intention of building a home server.
It works great for that.
Windows 7 32-bit works fine on it.
Linux works better.
Would even make a decent HTPC.
I love it!

5 out of 5 eggsLow Power File Server

Pros: Small, cheap, low power, handles 4GB. Provides enough power to run Windows 2008 R2 with AD, DNS, and file server roles in my home server.
Accepts a raid card in the 16x pci-e slot. I'm using a 3Ware (now LSI) 9590SE-8ML

Cons: graphic related tasks a little slow, but its a server so it doesn't matter

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice!

Pros: Super cheap, complete platform, low power consumption (42W for the complete pc). PCI-E 16X and other slots.
A logic cores, very fast boot time, memory up to 4GB, overclocking possible, 3 sata ports, Fanless!

Cons: Perfect for Windows XP, less for other systems.
Graphic part is a little underpowered.
no raid on the 3 sata (by desing, with that it would be almost perfect)
Power consumption acceptable but could be lower (43 idle -50W full power),

Other Thoughts: After testing as small server with Win2003 (very fast!!!) but no raid conf, I used it for kid's computer. They almost keep it always on so I wanted something with low power consumption. Windows XP works perfectly, very fast.
Too much flash animation can be a problem but it's the same for low level core 2 duo like E2200 so it's ok.
Overeall for the price it's a really good purchase.
I still have to test what happens with a decent graphic card in the X16 slot, I think it would improve a lot the only weak side of this mobo (graphic).
Amazing che overclocking!!!

5 out of 5 eggsWorking Fine

Pros: low power consumption and it is a dual processor with hyper threading. I use it as Security System with some file sharing. 1 pci expess 16 and 1 pci it can be use as htpc. It has been up and running 24/7 for 3 months now.

Cons: kind slow but kind expected.

Other Thoughts: I wish it is a ion chipset.

2 out of 5 eggsCable length.

Pros: Good little board, runs well.

Cons: I've built two PC's with this board for family now. They're sound little boards which work well for the average PC user. The problem I run into every time how ever is even with cases that are meant to be compatible with MICRO ATX motherboard sizes, I've found almost always the front panel wiring of the cases can almost never reach the ports. I've tried several cases with these boards and always run into this problem.
I wouldn't buy this board again because running into this problem constantly has become frustrating when your only options are soldering in more wiring or finding extenders.

2 out of 5 eggsPCI-E x16 bus does not work with RAID card

Pros: Small and energy saving, have potential to be a very useful motherboard for building backup computers or other low power computers.

NewEgg shipped board fast and in good shape.

Cons: Does not support high end RAID card like LSI. When contacted support, the engineers had no patient and want to blame LSI for the problem. The person name Jose was kind of rude and trying to blame LSI for the problem. LSI is a high end RAID manufacture. The same RAID card works fine for SuperMicro, Intel and Tyan motherboard, but not this board. But ECS support keep asked me to talk to LSI to solve the problem.

Other Thoughts: Flashed to the latest firmware, still not working.
I was hoping this board can be a good fit for our needs to make lower power backup server. But I don;t want to deal with their support any longer. Money wasted. I am sure NewEgg will help me to return this board.

Manufacturer Response:

We sincerely apologize for any miscommunication that you may have encountered and will look into your concerns.

We would still appreciate your time to allow us to work with you in resolving this issue. We do apologize for the issues you are currently having attempting to use your RAID card in the x16 slot but we have had positive feedback other users in getting this to work.

4 out of 5 eggsNice product

Pros: Great small motherboard, love the 3 SATA connections and the extra slots.

Cons: Case connections are not the best, we had to modify one to fit on the header (apparently not standard spacing)

Other Thoughts: Ubuntu 10.04 install cannot find the network device, but once ubuntu is installed it works just fine. For most people this is no problem, but anyone trying to install over network will have problems.

Also note that this has a 4-pin power connector between the CPU and the external ports, missed this in visual inspection but fortunately power supply had this connection.

5 out of 5 eggsworks as advertised

Coming Soon!

Pros: i use this board for my Windows Home Server, and while it may not feel like the snappiest system while using Remote Desktop, it serves up my files just fine, and i use it as a torrent box too for 24/7 downloading. it handles all the WHS duties with minimal CPU load. i also have this beast LOADED up with 12 hard drives. ...yes 12 of'em - the 3 onboard SATA ports, plus the onboard IDE for the 80GB system drive, 1 SATA PCI card offering 4 SATA ports, and 2 PCI-Express 1x SATA cards offering 2 ports each. yes i'm using a 1x card in the PCI-E 16x slot and it works just fine. all this in a full-size ATX case with a hard drive cage thingy (with 120mm fan) for 3 5.25" bays converting them to holding 4 hard drives, and only 1 80mm fan at the rear, and all my temps are below 40C. note that my 80GB sys drive is the only 7200rpm drive - the rest are 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB green drives (5400rpm).
oh, this lovely CPU, despite bieng an ATOM, shrinks DVDs from the hard drives in ~20mins. not bad eh?

Cons: i haven't had one gripe with this thing!
even overclocked mine to 1.8GHz just by bumping up the FSB :-D

Other Thoughts: i usually never bother writing reviews, but i just felt the need to all of a sudden while looking at how cheap this board is with the mail-in rebate, and how great it's been these past couple of months.
If you're wondering what SATA cards i used, for the 4-port PCI SATA card, it's a "MASSCOOL PCI Card, 4 internal SATA Model XWT-RC040"
for the PCI-Express 2-port SATA cards, they are "SYBA SY-PEX40015 PCI Express SATA II Host RAID Controller Card" - just remember that you'll need to flash these cards with the NON-RAID BIOS on Sil's website if you wanna use these, ya know, with out RAID (like in WHS). i did this easily by sticking it in my Windows7 computer prior to putting it in my server (cuz my server runs headless). after the flash i just installed it in the server and it ran like a charm. hell i forget if i even needed drivers for it lol. i think i did, but they're on the website too.
either way, this mobo and those SATA cards are cheap, and they just work wonderfully!

3 out of 5 eggsquality build board, hope the PCI-E bus not for display only

Pros: Good quality designed board.

Cons: The PCI-Ex16 slot can only be used for video card only. I wished they would allow that slot being used for RAID card. The PCI-Ex1 slot is only good for a network card, nobody design any RAId card with x1 bus any more.

Other Thoughts: I am sure there are a lot of people like me want to buy a board use little power, can be the file server and all other purposes in home. To accomdate that, onboard video should be able to handle 1080i, and the PCI-E x16 slot should allow RAID card.

From recent hard disk development, large drives must have RAID 1 to protect data. Software RAID is not good enough for protecting the data. It is hard to find a low power board have the PCI-E slot allowing RAID card.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing so far.

We would like for you to contact us as you should not have issues with PCIe x1 x4 x8 x16 devices in the PCIe in the PCIe x16 slot of the motherboard. We would like to find out what PCIe RAID card you are using and help find any possible solution.

Also you should be able to use other cards in the PCIe x1 slot besides a NIC. USB 3.0, SATA 3.0, TV tuner cards are some examples. If you are having issues with this let us know.

We can be reached at newegg.support@ecsusa.com or 510-771-0284. Our hours are Mon-Fri 9am-6pm PST.

When contacting us, you can refer to case #ECD10043010004

4 out of 5 eggsSound off

Pros: Small and quiet, aside from case fans. Works perfectly as HTPC. Runs Windows 7 Ult without issue, and at the time only 1GB system memory (4GB soon).

Cons: Had two issues with sound. First if I had the front jack set and plugged in, it wouldn't put out sound when I restarted the PC, unless I unplugged and replugged the jack. 2nd on both the front and rear line outs, I get odd re-verb static type noises when plunged in to my TV. Same cable has no re-verb when plugged in to my laptop. No clue what the deal is, will use PCI sound card.

Other Thoughts: Aside from my sound issues I love this motherboard. It came at a great cost and if I had to I would buy it again. It would be awesome if it had 3 more SATA ports and RAID, but we can wish.
