3 out of 5 eggsupdated review from 7/2/2012

Pros: got to retire DDR2 and change for cheaper and larger capacity DDR3

Cons: since last review the mobo gave out with symptoms similar to the reviews for 2/3 and 4/3 of this yr. the 4-pin ATX connector had burned out from the inside - first time for me - with a decent PSU attached.

Other Thoughts: RMA'ed and on 2nd board - ECS support was gracious and quick to replace.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your feedback. It is appreciated. We need your feedback in order to improve the quality of our products and service.

We are sorry to hear about the issues you experienced with your motherboard. For reference, the issue you experienced can be caused a draw of too much current through that 12v connector or a loose connection between PSU and motherboard.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

I or any of my team members here at technical support will be able to help you.

5 out of 5 eggsmy bad - disregard prior post!

Pros: price, features

Cons: a little trouble with setup, system fan runs full speed all the time

Other Thoughts: I posted a review yesterday blaming the mobo for no video output, after trying different video cards and power supplies. turns out I forgot to check RAM, and sure enough, one stick is bad and the PC works fine without it. My apologies!!!!

1 out of 5 eggsnothing but trouble

Pros: price, features

Cons: At first I could not get the board to even POST. Just as I was about to RMA it, it mysteriously started working. However, the system fan ran at full speed all the time, making the system sound like a old GeForce FX. I decided I could live with this as it was a gaming machine and kept under the desk. I still had occasional glitches and BSODs requiring hard reboots. then today in the middle of installing a new game, the monitor went black and said "no input". I pulled a working GPU from another build and had the same issue, while the existing GPU did work in the other build, so I am guessing that there is some problem with the graphics system on the mobo.

Other Thoughts: No more ECS for me.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the issues you are currently experiencing with your motherboard. A no POST issue like you are having can be caused by any of the main components, including CPU, memory, power supply, video card and motherboard. If possible we would recommend testing the motherboard in the following fashion.

Remove the motherboard from the case, with only CPU, CPU fan, memory and power supply connected. Place on a flat non static surface. Reseat the CPU. Test with only one memory at a time and reseat memory. Ensure that both the 24 pin and 4 pin (ATX12V) connections are connected from the power supply. Connect the power button from the case or short the power pins (6 and 8) to power on the system. If still have any issues or questions, please contact us and we can work with you to find a solution.

Pros: lots of pci slots, reliability, price, overclocking ability, 4 ramslots

2 out of 5 eggsFrustrating issues

Pros: Feature/price ratio, warranty terms

Cons: Will not boot consistently. It will often sit with HDD working and fans spinning, but no video output. I get no BIOS beeps indicating issues with memory or video card and I've tried 2 different brand new power supplies. When it sits and doesn't output video, the power LED will flash quickly 3 times with a 5 second pause and then flash again and again until I kill the power.

Other Thoughts: But the most frustrating part is tech support. They seem more than willing to fall all over themselves in response to complaints here but if you go through the pain-staking process of filling out a support request they just simply ignore you. And have I mentioned the snail speed of their download servers?

Manufacturer Response:

We sincerely apologize for any miscommunication that you may have encountered and will look into your concerns. After checking our database for the past 30 days, all cases for the IC780M-A2 have been updated within 1-2 business days. Please contact us so we can help and find out your previous case number.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Handy for what I needed. Supports the basics with a good range.

Cons: The heat sink on the motherboard near the processor. That gets hot when running games like World of Warcraft or other process demanding programs and games. This needs a fan or better cooling solution. The result of it overheating is the screen going black and nothing responding.

Other Thoughts: If you want your games uninterrupted, consider modifying this. The heat sink will only work so much. Consider finding a solution.

I have replaced the fan to the processor for a better one and put in liquid cooling for the processor as a final attempt on the processor.

1 out of 5 eggsWould not buy!

Pros: Worked great for 6 months

Cons: Out of no where stopped working. Doesn't even post anymore. Hit the power button and it resets itself every 3 seconds. Tried taking everything out but the CPU and HDD and by looking at the pattern of the can light flashing you can see it still restarts every 3 seconds.

Other Thoughts: Get something better and more reliable.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the issue you are currently experiencing with your motherboard. For a power issue, such as this, we would recommed trying the following.

Test the board outside the case, free from touching any conductive surfaces, also remove ALL the components.

Once you have removed ALL the components (including CPU and memory), connect only the power cable from the power supply (20/24pin connector) and CPU fan. This is to eliminate all possible causes except power supply and motherboard. Fan is plugged in for a visual indication of power.

To power the system momentarily touch pins 6 and 8 on the PANEL1 header, using screw driver or pen. The system should power up and fans should spin and stay on (not restart every 3 seconds).

If you have power go ahead and install memory, CPU, monitor and 4-pin ATX12V connection from power supply and retest.

If you continue to hav issues, please contact us, so we can work with you in finding a solution.

4 out of 5 eggsStable as can be

Pros: As stable as I could want
Price when I got them
Color Scheme

Cons: 4 pin cpu power connector location
Removable sticker on NB heatsink

Other Thoughts: Bought two of these. Both are running 24/7 in two servers hosting multiple virtual machines. One has a Phenom II 720 and the other a Phenom II 965. Both have 16 gb of DDR3 1600. I have not had a host system lockup at all ever. For the price you get four RAM slots and 125W cpu support, this was a steal. The only real gripe is the sticker on the heatsink. I mean really, what if this falls off while the system is on? It peeled off easy enough.
