3 out of 5 eggsA decent basic motherboard, part II

Pros: Works. Better build quality than some low priced motherboard, with solid polymer and Sanyo capacitors for everything critical.

Cons: Has low quality Capxon capacitors for everything else.

Only 2 SATA ports.

UPDATE: Like most BIOSes, this one lets you choose the default video, but if you don't have the hardware for the selected video, the BIOS doesn't try hard enough to select the actual video available. So if you do something like choose PCI-E video as the default but then boot with only the onboard video available, you could get a blank screen, even after the operating system loads its video drivers . Worse, the screen may stay blank even if you reboot and hit Delete to enter the BIOS setup. Then only solution seems to be to either discharge the CMOS with the jumper or disconnect all the boot devices, either of which will bring back the boot display. I wasn't able to reproduce this problem with a very similar Biostar motherboard with the same G41 chipset.

3 out of 5 eggsATX Power issues

Pros: I love the fact that I can use DDR3 memory with 775 processors, it really expands the abilities for high-RAM installations. I am currently running a Q6700 with 8GB of RAM in a FlexRAID box, and couldn't be happier

Cons: MAIN ISSUE: 24 pin ATX power socket seems to have smaller pins than on other motherboards I've owned. I have to wiggle the power cable just so in order for the computer to turn on at all, and it's become such an issue that I can no longer move the computer, for fear of wiggling the power cable and having to perform maintenance on it again.

Another thing I'm not entirely pleased with is the fact that there are only 2 SATA ports on the motherboard. 4, or even 6 would be nice, considering an aftermarket motherboard isn't up to par with every OEM motherboard out there with 4 or even 6 SATA ports

Other Thoughts: Overall, it's a great board. I would give it 5 stars if not for the power issue, and 4 stars if I were really nitpicky about the design in regard to the SATA ports...but anyways, the unreliability of its power connection is a big hit in the reliability of the system.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome board. Used them since 2005. They usually ship their MOBO with CMOS jumper set to clear. If you need to post the MOBO, set the jumper.

Pros: Very reliable board.

Cons: Nothing. But the manual should tell the user's to "READ ME" or should it be the other way around.

Other Thoughts: The board is superb. I don't know about the user's who gave negative feedbacks.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little board.

Pros: mAtx size
DDR3
PATA connectors
SPDIF out - for HDMI sound to older graphics cards.

Cons: LGA 775 Socket, outdated.

x1 PCI-Ex slot directly under Graphics card slot, so I had to settle for a single slot graphics card so I could fit my HD capture card as well.

Other Thoughts: Bit of an odd board with new and old technologies mixed in. LGA 775, PATA & SATA, DDR3. Makes for a nice HTPC board. Core 2 Duos are pretty cheap and still powerful for the LGA775 socket.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: cheap

Cons: DOA, no post, no video, it doesn't work

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing with your motherboard. Prior to shipping from our factory, all motherboards are tested to ensure that they are working properly. A DOA issue can be caused by any of the main components, including CPU, memory, power supply and motherboard. If possible we would recommend testing the motherboard in the following fashion. Also please verify that the CPU in use is supported by this motherboard. A link to the product page is included. Here you can find the CPU support list.

Remove the motherboard from the case, with only CPU, CPU fan, memory and power supply connected. Place on a flat non static surface. Reseat the CPU. Test with only one memory at a time and reseat memory. Ensure that both the 24 pin and 4 pin (ATX12V) connections are connected from the power supply. Connect the power button from the case or short the power pins (6 and 8) to power on the system. If still have any issues or questions, please contact us and we can work with you to find a solution.

1 out of 5 eggssent it do me defective

Pros: board had no floppy port would not run windows xp windows vista windows 7 or any linux. not very nice board

i tried rma it and according to the rma instructions put the cpu cover back but it was designed with 2 little bumps and when you try to replace it it destroys the cpu socket. So they wont rma it.

Cons: frustrating board and i cannot get my rebate as i waited trying to swap ram and cpu to see why it would not boot.

dont bother testing stuff if it dont work just send it back and dont put any special covers back on cpu sockets as they are designed to destroy them and void your warrenty

Other Thoughts: im going to stop buying stuff from newegg for a year or so.

This is the second motherboard they sent me that was not right. And they shipped me a 8 drive raid cast that was defective in a way I did not figure it out till warrenty was gone.

Beware of cheep deals from them they are loaded with bombs.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the issues you experienced. Please do contact us as we would like to find out what issues you ran into trying to "run" Windows XP, Vista and 7. This motherboard does support Windows XP and is qualified to run Windows Vista and Windows 7.

The CPU socket cover that this motherboard ships with is generic and designed to fit all socket 775 with out issues.

4 out of 5 eggsGood board

Pros: cheap, small form factor. easy on the eyes.

Cons: i am concerned about installing an OEM OS on this thing but it has worked for a while so im gonna cross my fingers and do it.
also OC's only to 1066 RAM.

Other Thoughts: my previous asus motherboard died and i blamed it on a faulty PSU. i am hoping with my new qualty PSU and this motherboard i can have a long lasting healthy pc. so far this has served me well, it lost one egg because the ram only overclocks to 1066.

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine

Pros: Works great for me! I don't know what everyone else is complaining about. It's a no-frills board. Just make sure you use an older (Core 2) CPU and you should have no issues. My old E6300 wasn't even on the supported CPU list and it works great.

Cons: I'm not sure that a PCI slot was entirely necessary. I would have preferred another PCI express x1 slot, but I understand this is a board designed for legacy components (older CPU, IDE HDD etc), so the inclusion of PCI isn't really unexpected.

Other Thoughts: People need to understand what they are buying before they buy and to quit blaming the manufacturer for what amounts to user incompetence.
